Check this out... from the Hog News website. There was some serious drama going on in Arkansas. Apparently this was written by an overzealous fan and friend of the Nutt family and it eventually made it's way to Mustain. After this email and I'm sure a thousand other more serious reasons, Mustain asked for his walking papers. My only question is if there was smoke, wasn't there at least some fire...? I do know that PC won't be putting up with this kind of drama.

What on earth does that email have to do with anything? That is a random person who sent an email to Mustain.

If that's the sole reason you have for having issues with Mustain, then let's bring up the fact that Dirty Sanchez was handcuffed, arrested, and went to jail for raping a girl. What about all the other off the field incidents Dirty Sanchez has had? What about when Dirty Sanchez was videotaped breaking the law, then lied about it to Bill Plaschke in an LA Times interview? El Capitain - you are obviously a Latino individual and are, perhaps, taking things personally where there is no reason for you to do so.

I don't believe this is a Latino or white issue. Whether Sanchez raped a female student at USC or not, I do not know one way or the other. But the truth is that the aura of rape or sexual assault will follow him around for the rest of his life. That's simply a fact, not an opinion. That's the way American society works. His arrest is routinely brought up in the media whenever his name is mentioned, and was the first thing that Brent Musberger brought up when Sanchez entered the Rose Bowl game at the very end. Fans of other teams have made it clear that they will keep bringing it up if he ever starts for USC, whether it be with signs, chants, or in the case of the Stanford band, a half-time routine.

Again, I am not making a judgment on Sanchez's character one way or another, but realistically everyone knows that his arrest for rape will follow him around for the rest of his life and there is simply no denying that.

I couldn't care less what the race of a quarterback at USC is, just so long as he is good and represents the university with class and dignity. If race were an issue when it came to football, then we would have practically no players, since football is a predominantly black sport.

Having said that, I am thrilled that Mustain may be coming to USC and cannot imagine a scenario where he will not start. He has tremendous talent and by all accounts, is a devout Baptist with high ethical standards. It doesn't matter to me that he's white. It only matters to me that he's the best quarterback we can get -- and he has proven that he is -- and that he represents us with class and dignity. I have no reason to doubt that he will do just that.

This is not an issue of someone being Latino or white and you should not take any criticism for Sanchez in such a way or be offended if a white quarterback is praised. I do not get offended if a white player is insulted and you should not take it personally if a Latino player is not portrayed in the best light.

ElCapitan needs to calm down and drink some warm milk. So a white QB is coming and he immediately thinks everyone is prejudice toward Dirty Sanchez because he is Mexican! That's not the reason. There is no prejudice based on race, but only on actions and personal behavior. I would be saying the same things about a white QB if he had done the things that Dirty Sanchez has done.

I agree with you that high school rankings mean nothing when it comes to college performance, but there is a big difference in the situation between Whitney Lewis and Mitch Mustain.

Lewis was a highly-coveted high school recruit who turned out to be a bust in college. Mustain, however, started eight games as a true freshman at an SEC school and went 8-0. That's eight more wins than either Sanchez or Corp, combined, have had in college. Even Booty never started off his career 8-0 and he had to wait three years to play.

Mustain has had more experience already than his potential competition and has won every game he has started.

There doesn't have to be a criminal record for someone to have the aura of wrongdoing following them around. Wow, someone's been hitting the cerveza hard. I went through all the posts and I honestly do not see anyone bringing up race other than El Capitan. It's pretty sad when you blame every criticism about someone on their race. It's an easy way out and it's a no-win situation for someone to bring race into an argument.

If someone praises Mustain, that is not to say they feel he is good because of a perceived case of prejudice for Mexicans. If people think Booty is a good player, it does not that mean they have prejudice for Mexicans.

I never even considered race to be a factor when thinking about Mustain, Booty or Corp. Likewise for Leinart or Palmer.

El Capitan, you are not going to make too many friends or people to support your view if you throw around absurd claims of prejudice simply because people view a quarterback, who just so happens to be white, to be superior than a Mexican quarterback. If anything, your approach alienates people and makes them side with Mustain, even if they did not have an opinion about him previously. I didn't have an opinion for Mustain before reading these threads, but seeing as how you apparently represent the Sanchez camp, I am now leaning toward throwing my support to Mustain's camp.

Anyhow, how did you guys go from discussing how USC might have 3 unbelievable QB’s that will compete to back-up and replace Booty to some racial banter. I don’t care who the next great USC QB is - Sanchez, Corp or Mustain...I just want to give all of these talented kids a chance to compete, and like I previously said, let the cream rise to the top.

And EC, nobody said that Mustain walked on water, but I wouldn’t dismiss him either. Corp was playing high school football, Sanchez was holding a clip board, and Mustain was leading Arkansas to the SEC Title Game. He might not be the most talented (that we will find out soon enough if he chooses to transfer), but he has the most experience out of the three.

Arkansas coach revokes sideline pass for critical e-mail

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Arkansas Razorbacks football coach Houston Nutt revoked the sideline pass of a family friend over a critical e-mail she wrote to freshman quarterback Mitch Mustain, and the e-mail drew a rebuke from Chancellor John A. White, as well.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported in its Thursday editions that the e-mails were written by booster Teresa Prewett, a Little Rock physical therapist who helped assistant coach Danny Nutt rehabilitate after brain surgery in 1998.

The newspaper obtained university documents related to the e-mails, which were sent to a number of people on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7.

One e-mail was sent to Democrat-Gazette sports editor and columnist Wally Hall. The other was sent to Mustain, with a copy to Nutt's wife, Diana. She forwarded the note to a Springdale business with her own note that said parts of the e-mail about the city of Springdale and former Arkansas offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn were "quite funny."

Malzahn was Mustain's high school coach at Springdale before taking a job at Arkansas. He recently quit to become assistant head coach at Tulsa.

Nutt told the newspaper that the e-mail was indeed forwarded by his wife.

"I did acknowledge, I just found out a couple weeks ago she did do that," Nutt said.

In January, the university investigated at the behest of Mustain's mother, Beck Campbell. The newspaper said that Prewett wrote a letter of apology to Mustain, who was released from his scholarship, at his request, so he can seek a transfer. Nutt sent a reprimand to Prewett and White sent a letter to Campbell that condemned Prewett's e-mail.

Prewett also was told not to have any contact with university football players, and the school placed a filter on its computer system to ban her e-mails, the newspaper reported.

Wow. I usually just read this without commenting but this chain of posts is so ridiculous. First of all, I know "Dirty Sanchez" is a gross sexual maneuver but its also a racial slur, much more offensive IMO to "redneck". It's not so much that I am crazy about Mustain, but his record speaks for itself. His last two years of high school, he went 26-1 and won a state championship. Then there are those who say that what one did in high school has no relevance on a college career. OK, in that scenario, look what he did at Arkansas as a true freshman. Started eight games and won all eight games. Again, that's as a true freshman in the SEC.

If that's what he can do as an 18 year old, imagine the possibilities when he's 20 to 22.

This isn't a wait and see situation, because he's already been seen. He's not exactly a project. He's competed as a true freshman, in front of huge crowds and national TV audiences, and won every game he started. By all accounts, it was a personality conflict with Nutt that got him benched, not lack of talent on the field. What more could a coach want than a quarterback who goes undefeated?

Actually, PC has never said any such thing. If Sanchez were better than Booty, he would be starting. He did not start and will not start next season, either.

Why are more quarterbacks being brought in?

I have seen Sanchez in practice and was not the least bit impressed by what I saw. Booty is worlds better than Sanchez. Sanchez does not come within a country mile of Booty.

From what I have seen of Mustain, he is consistent and already has more game experience than Sanchez. Having seen both players, albeit Mustain only on TV, I just don't see Sanchez beating Mustain out for the starting position. Just not going to happen.

There's always drama around SC since PC took over. If it's not one thing, it's another. Maybe someone should start a reality TV show set in Heritage Hall and call it "Desperate Jock Rash."

I have followed these threads, and every time someone has praised Mustain, this person has accused them of racism toward Latinos. Can't you see that he is not an intelligent person without any sense of reason or rationale?

The more you keep trying to reason with him, the more names he will throw out and he will hide behind the race card.

Just ignore this uneducated troll and don't feed his lunacy. He'll go away. He has no supporters here or anywhere, and not one person will support his ridiculous race card attempts. He is not a Trojan, has no affiliation with USC and is simply mad at the world because of race.

Get ready for this: Do I think Mustain is a good QB? Sincerely yes, I think so. Have I alluded to Mustain's problems in AR? Have I called Mustain names like the AR bloggers do? NO, I have NOT. WHY should I? Did you read any posts when JDB beat Sanchez written by me saying that JDB was named the starter instead of Sanchez? The answer is NO. PC's decision to go with JDB was NOT a simple as many perceive. I gracefully accepted it.
Finally and objectively stated if Mustain transfers to USC and he beats out Sanchez fair and square on the field that is fine with me. Whether you like it or NOT I root for USC faithfully-that is my right and it does NOT matter if I did NOT attend USC. Truthfully I did NOT.
SC'03 I am so uneducated that I read, write and speak(fluently) English and Spanish. I lost count how many physicians have called for my help as a translator. I am so dumb that I have over fifty college credit hours in Chemistry alone. Add 40 more in Biology. SC'03 think about your accusations, assumptions, etc, etc...

Concur. It's best to ignore the crazy poster El Capitan. He has already stated that he does not want Mustain to come to USC and only cares about Sanchez because Sanchez is Mexican. This person's language has no place on a board that is read by Trojans and about Trojans, something he has admitted that he is not.

He only cares about a Mexican player because of his race, period. You cannot argue with and expect anything more than insults and derogatory racial terms if you say something that about Sanchez.

As for my view on Mustain, I think he is being recruited to come to USC to start. From everything I have seen of him on the football field, he is more talented than any other recruit I have seen in a long time.

I have also seen Corp in person, including the state championship game, and think he also will jump ahead of Sanchez.

As for Sanchez's past, I must admit that I am troubled by it. Yes, he was not charged, but neither were any of the other Trojan football players who were arrested for rape these past three years. Maualuga was arrested for beating someone up in front of eye witnesses, yet was never charged. The list goes on and on, so I hardly believe that lack of charges proves anyone to be innocent. From everything I have heard about Sanchez, and have also read, he has been in and out of trouble off the field since coming to USC, which is most likely the reason that Mustain is being brought in. I'm sure a certain poster will consider that a racial comment, but I have also mentioned blacks and a Samoan in this argument, too, when it has come to players who were never charged for any crimes they committed.

So to everyone -- don't feed some non-Trojan's rants about race. He is obviously a very angry man and only cares about having a Mexican quarterback start at USC. He just wants to attack Trojans because no one will listen to him. He is no better than ReelBruin and Miguelito. They are all non-Trojans who come on this board to start something with all of you because they are jealous of Trojans and what we have.

Some comments to refute El Capitan's claims that he never stated his opposition to Mustain coming to USC and all that other stuff about how it would be chosen on the field, etc:

How come you didn't address any of the questions regarding the other players who were arrested for raping girls, beating up students, but were never charged? Why do you only care to defend the Latino player who was never charged? Why won't you defend Rey Maualuga who was arrested but never charged? Why won't you defend Eric Wright who was arrested but never charged? Why won't you defend Hershell Dennis who was arrested but never charged? You are very selective in who you defend. Only the Latino player.

You call everyone the "usual suspects" and a "small group," but this allegedly small group keeps getting bigger and bigger, yet you are all alone in the wilderness with your illiterate rants and raves, full of name calling and racial slurs. Damn El Cap...over 50 comments in this thread about MM possibly coming to USC, and it appears that you've basically blown a gasket over this potentially positive opportunity for Troy.

I started mentally listing the posters whom you appear upset with, then realized that it's damn near all of them. I hope that you can try to relax a little so as to be able to enjoy this blog which is supposed to be about the greatness which is USC Trojan football. A topic that makes me very happy and entertains the heck out of me, my kids and most of my friends..

Might I offer that you do as I've done..I've just started ignoring the flamers like Reel-ista and Miguelita and some senorita named JTK or something similar..If these girls get no attention from us, they will eventually just go shopping or start to nag thier own over something stupid, like bruin football or matching powder blue jerseys or leaving thier girlfriends injured and near death in a freeway accident in the dark of the early morning or something as rediculously stupid.

USC is part of the community and so are the Latinos. It's a fact of life that everybody has to deal with. To that effect the mayor of LA is a Chicano. Even though this is a FB blog one of the best as well as aregular player on the volleball team is Puertorican-a good one-Juan Figueroa. Baby that kid can play VB! If we go further with the ethnic point Mike Garrett the AD is black and also a Heismnan trophy winner-the first one. Some of these bloggers need to be reminded of USC ethnic diversity. Five of the seven USC Heisman trophy winners are black. Anthony Munoz USC former OL is in the NFL HOF and is Chicano. They will surprised when they look at USC HOF and the number of Hispanics that are in it. Like I said those facts have to be dealt with and properly recognized.

El Cap..That is my point! When the baseless accusations and character bashing get ignored and then most of the bloggers become non responsive to it, it usually goes away. What I was trying to tell you is to try to find a way to go back to having fun with this blog instead of having so much grief and drama. Some of these losers are only out there to try to pull your strings! They have been succeeding at it. I just ignore them and read the news. Bruce in Anaheim Hills has the right answer, so does another really interesting poster named Tyler. These guys seem just interested in getting good information from this blog, sans the bullshit. I'm in agreement with them and hopefully you will cut your grief and angst way down by joining in.
