Patience Is A Virtue
Checking in the topic of Arkansas quarterback Mitch Mustain, sources said to remain patient for a decision, especially since USC has an extra scholarship and is in no hurry to award it.

I have seen everyone write before this kid will be the starter and come on board.
Someone else tell him he should go to Hawaii and play for a great staff they will use his ability to max. This is not to say they would not happen at USC but it would just not be right. There are things more important than winning.
At USC it will not be fair to either him or Sanchez. And Sanchez has put in his dues. To be replaced late by a ringer would wrong. It's his job. It would be a sin to deprive him. It is also a sin to deprive Mustain of college career, which is what happens if Sanchez keeps his job and never gets hurt.
Mitch....call Coach Jones now.
Mr. Morantz:
I agree with you 100% and perhaps a few more. If you haven't already seen it there is a huge anti Sanchez movement/group using Sanchez rape dropped charges as an excuse to continuously bash him and at the same time promoting Mustain. Please spend some more time researching these blogs and you will confirm.
Thanks
"Are you smarter than a 5th grader?" UCLA grad contestant failed to correctly answer such questions as: "What month is Columbus Day celebrated?"and "Who was the first US President to be impeached?" Couldn't resist posting this
Hey guys, isn't Carroll's program all about what happens on the practice field and earning your spot based on performance rather than how long someone rides the bench? It's a little hypocritical to embrace true freshmen that can make an impact but shun a transfer that can do the same thing. I'm certainly not anointing Mustain, but I would welcome him to the program and if he decides to become a Trojan it'll make for a very exciting quarterback battle in 2008. Why is everyone so concerned about crowning the next starting quarterback? Why not just wait and see how it plays out?
i questioned the fact that everyone was already dropping off the Sanchez when first word was mentioned of Mustain coming to SC. Also, I am tired of people saying that Sanchez was not worthy of being QB when he couldnt beat out Booty for the starting position. Lets remember just how long it took JD to get there, and how short of period it would have taken Sanchez if he was even being considered.
Mustain is head and shoulders above Sanchez and all you have to do is compare what they each did in 2006:
Mustain: Started eight games in the SEC as a true freshman QB and won all eight games.
Sanchez: Arrested thrown in jail for sexual assault.
Mustain: Appeared on national television leading a football team as an 18 year old in the toughest conference in the country.
Sanchez: Appeared on national television in handcuffs being led away by the LAPD for raping a student.
Mustain will be a great Trojan. Sanchez is a disgrace.
Mustain has already been offered a scholarship and he will come to USC.
There is no such thing as "paying dues" as far as time in the football team is concerned for PC. Matt Cassel is proof of that. Besides, there will be several more scholarships available in May, when some players will be dismissed from the team for academic reasons.
There is no way that Mustain will not start when he comes to USC. Do you really think think that Carroll and Sarkisian will offer a player the caliber of Mustain a scholarship if they do not plan on making him the starter? He can go anywhere he darn well wants, so the fact that he will be coming to USC shows that not only will Mustain start, but Sarkisian's comments about changing the offense to a system that highlight Mustain's talents, confirm it.
Sanchez will never see the field again once Mustain comes to USC. Mustain is being brought in to start, period.
Mitch Mustain will transfer to USC and will enroll as early as summer school in May. You can also count on the fact that he will be the starting quarterback for the 2008 season.
There are specific reasons why Mustain will be transferring to USC and everyone will find out soon enough.
We already know that we will have to wait for Mustain's OFFICIAL decision; this is nothing new from last week. This is exactly what has been said since Mustain's campus visit.
Mustain will make a tremendous QB for us, not just on the field, but off the field. By all accounts, he is a upstanding young man of moral character, not some sleazy dirtbag like Sanchez who gets arrested for rape. We don't need people like that at a place like USC, and we certainly don't need him representing us.
Mustain is exactly what we need as a Trojan and I will be proud to have him as a Trojan and have no doubt that he will lead us with dignity as a starter. He can take as much time as he likes to make his announcement, what's the hurry? He is still an enrolled Arkansas student and won't even be eligible to play until 2008 anyway.
Mustain is our man and he WILL start in 2008.
Well, looks like I've been proven wrong by all these assertive statements.
I am wholeheartedly on the Mustain bandwagon. Everything this boy has done has been nothing short of miraculous. Going 8-0 as a true freshman starting quarterback in the SEC, as has been mentioned many times by many contributors, is the best record ever by a true freshman in the history of college football.
Sanchez's greatest claim to fame (other than being arrested for sexual assault) is that he is "the other quarterback." That's it, nothing more. When things go wrong, people who are ignorant about football just want to replace the quarterback and think that fixes all the problems. That's sheer ignorance.
Sanchez could not beat out Booty and won't be able to do so this year, either. Booty is worlds better than Sanchez and once Mustain and Corp enroll, Sanchez's future at USC is pretty much finished.
Mustain is also worlds better than Mustain and has already started more games in college than the all the other quarterbacks on the 2008 Trojan football roster combined.
How could anyone criticize a PERFECT record as a true freshman starting quarterback? You cannot, unless you have some kind of personal agenda.
Everyone should jump on the Mustain bandwagon now or you will be left behind.
If Mustain wants to take his time, then he should take as much time as he likes. Remember, Mustain will be the most heralded and decorated quarterback to enroll at SC since Marinovich. I personally can't wait until Mustain comes and think he is simply an all-world talent.
Fight On, Mitch Mustain!
Scott - from what I can gather, this is the exact same post you made last week, but you just changed the wording around. Mustain already said that he will make his decision "by May," and the USC football staff have stated that it's "a done deal."
So with that, Mustain will start at quarterback for the 2008 USC Trojans in 2008!
I have seen Sanchez play on numerous occasions, from practices to the Huddle to scrimmages, and since all the Mustain talk began in January, I have obtained DVDs of all his games at Arkansas. So I have had time to compare the two.
Sanchez is slow, can't move or run well and his judgment is horrendous. There was no doubt that Booty would start would start last season and Sanchez will not even be able to challenge him this season, either. Booty is so much better than Sanchez, it's actually comical.
Mustain, on the other hand, displayed tremendous speed and great accuracy. From everything I have read regarding his situation at Arkansas, he was benched for Casey Dick for political reasons by Houston Nutt. Nutt has now started taking responsibility for the move, while there is even talk that he may lose his job for allowing the relationship with Mustain to deteriorate, to a point that Mustain chose to leave the program.
In the final analysis, how much better could a quarterback go than 8-0 as a starter?
Sanchez's greatest accomplishment on his resume is that over two years ago, he beat some 14 and 15 year old boys in high school. Mustain this past season beat grown men in the toughest conference in college football.
So that's why Mustain is better and will getting the starting job over Sanchez.
Did someone just compare Mustain to Marinovich? If that's what we're getting from Arkansas, you can get Sanchez up and throwing right now. I don't want my quarterback being the next lead singer of "Scurvy".
Sanchez will be a star. Take it to the bank!
The answer to the question, "In the final analysis, how much better could a quarterback go than 8-0 as a starter?" is 12-0. That is the number of games Arkansas played last year. The games Mustain did not start?
USC
LSU
Florida
Wisconsin
In any analysis, 12-0 is better than 8-0. Although his record should really be listed as either 7-0 or 8-1 since he threw the ball more in the loss to SC (6 times) than he did in the victory against the other SC (1 time)
Counting a game in which he started, threw one pass, and had that single pass intercepted, as a victory for HIM, is stretching the bounds of a legitimate argument. (He technically started that game, but did absolutely nothing to win that game)
Fight On!
sureshot32: I think the point is that Mustain started eight games and he won all eight games. So, no, you cannot do any better than that. It wasn't up to him whether he would start the other games or not, and there is no use saying that he would have lost those games, because you simply do not know how they would have turned out.
Marinovich was a tremendous talent coming in, and was, in fact, the most heralded incoming QB in USC history. At USC, he did an awful lot as well. He was, however, a very flawed person and that destroyed his life.
Wanger: I agree, Sanchez is a very flawed person and his behavior raises many questions.
Morantz: It is no one's job and to say it "belongs" to Sanchez would contradict Pete Carroll and Steve Sarkisian's offers to other QBs. Carroll has repeatedly shown that older players do not have have any kind of preference when it comes to starting or playing time. Younger players have routinely started over older players, including those who previously started. Look at Maualuga taking Lua's job, even once Lua was completely healthy.
TrojanSAEinNYC: Great point about additional scholarships becoming available in May. That is something which has not been touched upon in much detail and should be explored further.
For heaven's sake, do not read too much into Mitch Mustain's decision to wait until he makes an official announcement of where he will transfer to. He is still an enrolled student at the University of Arkansas and if he announces right now where he is going to enroll come May, it will create tension between he and his former teammates, as well as the students in his classes.
Mustain is coming to USC and there is no reason to publicly announce it until the end of the semester.
Mitch Mustain will be a credit to USC and I look forward to his wearing the Cardinal & Gold as early as this summer. When he becomes eligible to play for USC in 2008, all bets are off. He most definitely will start and will plow through the competition.
So, yes, patience is a virtue and everything will turn out just right in a few months. What's the hurry?
Usual suspects usual BS and sanchez bashing. What is miraculous?:
10 TD's/9INT's, 71 QB rating and barely over 50% pass completion(52%). The only decent team he beat was Auburn. After that you need a manifying glass to find the rest of the opponents he beat on the map, go figure.
The usual suspects [selectively] nurture and caress the 8-0 record and blind themselves to the rest of his stats. That is their objectivity definition.
While Mustain was actually starting as a college quarterback, what was Sanchez doing? Sitting on his ass on the bench? If Sanchez is so good, why would PC and Sark even have offered Mustain a scholarship? That's a slap in the face of Sanchez. Why was Mustain's recruitment behind Sanchez's back? Why was Sanchez never involved in Mustain's campus visit, even though it is standard practice to meet the other quarterback? Why was Sanchez kept away from Mustain and never told about the Mustain recruitment and offer?
Sanchez has not done one darn thing since he came to USC. Well, he did manage to get himself arrested and thrown in jail for rape, so I suppose that's somewhat of an accomplishment for some people. But when it comes to football, he has not done a darn thing other than sit on the bench. He only managed to come off the bench for a total of three games, all in garbage time. And he even managed to throw an interception in that time, too.
If Sanchez is so good, there would be no need for PC and Sark to offer a scholarship to Mustain. There would have been no reason to recruit him. There would have been no reason to offer a scholarship to Mustain's teammate, Williams. In case you haven't realized it yet, Williams and Mustain come as a duo. First from Springdale HS to Arkansas, and now to USC.
Mustain will be a Trojan and he most certainly will start at quarterback for USC come 2008. Sanchez is through and Corp will be Mustain's second string, before eventually starting himself.
Mustain will be at USC come this May, will practice immediately and learn the new system that Sark has already gone on the record as stating will be implemented. By 2008, Mustain will have been at USC for over a year and will be primed to start.
Mustain will be a star at USC as early as 2008. You can count on it.
Carroll and Sarkisian may not even be at SC come 2008, so the entire system may very well be changed yet again by the start of next season.
While Carroll is still around, he has made it clear that he simply does not care how long a player has waited in the wings. Matt Cassel was the 2nd string QB behind Palmer for two years, while Leinart was 3rd string. After Palmer was gone, Cassel was still ahead of Leinart in spring training. Then when fall came around, Leinart got the starting job and Cassel was moved to 4th string, then to tight end.
So it means absolutely nothing to Carroll how long a player has been on the team, or if he's even been the 2nd string.
If someone the caliber of Mustain comes in, he will start over Sanchez, regardless of how long Sanchez has been waiting in the wings. Mustain is simply better and has accomplished far more than Sanchez, both in high school and, obviously, in college.
Carroll and Sarkisian are simply not going to bring someone like Mustain in if he is not going to start. It's simply not going to happen. There are better things they can do with resources and Corp is already coming in. So if Mustain comes, he will start, regardless of whether he has been at USC at that point for a year compared to a player who may have been around longer.
Mustain will still have had more starts by 2008 than Sanchez, Corp and Green will have had together.
To MarathonRunner & JimmyCardinalGold:
I have stayed away from the entire Mustain discussion, but I have to chime in on some things here. Yes, I have noticed the unusual aspect of Pete Carroll and Steve Sarkisian conducting the Mustain campus visit under somewhat mysterious circumstances. He is obviously being being recruited under the nose of Sanchez and there is no reason to get Sanchez involved with Mustain's recruitment.
If I were Sanchez, I not only would be getting nervous right about now, I would see the writing on the wall.
Mustain can go anywhere he wants and will start immediately. So if he's coming to USC, and his recruitment and campus visit are conducted away from Sanchez and under relatively secrecy, then he's being brought in as the future as the franchise.
I, personally, cannot see how if Mustain enrolls at USC, he would not start. It makes perfect sense to me. He can make an immediate impact and is certainly not a longterm project. He is already a proven winner at the college level and no other quarterback on the Trojan roster would be able to say that. He has never been in trouble with the law and from what I have read, is a very wholesome young man with deeply-held religious beliefs. He will do us proud, both on the field and as an ambassador off the field.
Keyshawn Johnson transferred into SC and started immediately over players who had been on the team longer, so being on the pine means nothing whatsoever. If you are good, you will start, regardless of whether you have been on the pine or you have transferred in.
Mustain can start immediately upon becoming eligible. It doesn't matter one bit if someone has been around longer than he has.
The usual suspects are also the society moral immaculate guards, WOW? If some of you are catholic you are definitely the worst hypocrites around. Trust me I know about hypocritical catholics. Just hope you don't have any hidden dirty laundry...
Agree with all the sentiments - Mustain is Sanchez's worst nightmare. Should Mustain come to USC, Sanchez is all but finished. He must be nervous about Pete and Sark offering Mustain a scholarship, but I'm sure they have their reasons.
All the bruin babies have chimed in......where is BruinChump we hear he is boning up for the "can you beat a 5 grader" show!
Morantz - I understand your point and why you might be against someone transferring in and competing with kids that have been putting their time in, but PC has always let the best players play. And if that is Sanchez...great, if that is Mustain...great. Some people just want to come to USC to see if they are really as good as they think they are by competing against the best...the rest go to schools like UCLA.
East Coast Trojan,
...not just a UCLA grad, but a UCLA History Major couldn't answer who the first U.S. President was to be impeached! Classic. And the Bruin actually did not get one single question right, the 5th Graders had to give him the answers for all three questions that he got correct!
Another example of that fine public school education at its best...but this time the national televison audience saw it!
EC, once again see how Morantz has formulated an articulate argument..without sounding mentally unstable and intentionally provoking the rest of Scott’s Blog.
“If you haven't already seen it there is a huge anti Sanchez movement/group using Sanchez rape dropped charges as an excuse to continuously bash him and at the same time promoting Mustain.”- EC (Thank you for proving my point!)
“If some of you are catholic you are definitely the worst hypocrites around.” - EC
What are you trying to do now, spark some sort of religious discussion? Are you the moral authority for this Blog now? What’s that saying...you shouldn’t throw rocks when you live in a glass house.
Stick to talking about sports and why you think Sanchez is better than Mustain...this Blog can live with that. When you start arguing about nonsense or responding to people that bait you, you are no better than miguelito, ReelBruin, Bill and the rest of the UCLA jokers.
Unfortunately, I look forward to your future posts that will probably call me a “Ususal Suspect” , discuss the periodic table or grammar (which will be filled with your own spelling and grammatical errors), and going on....and on....and on...and on about your imaginary orchestra and percussion instruments.
Mustain was NOT benched because of politics. He was benched because he threw too many INT's.That's a fact.Coach Nutt admitted he handled his benching wrong and there was a lack of communication from him,but the fact remains Mitch's play is what led to the benching. Finally,Mustain was not promised anything from PC.He's gonna have to compete just like everyone else.
planoguy, Nutt has never said that Mustain was benched because of interceptions. He claims that some people sent him e-mails about interceptions, but his reasons for benching Mustain were not related to that. So you should not say, "That's a fact." It's simply not the case,
Here's Nutt's take on the Mustain situation at Arkansas:
http://www.pbcommercial.com/articles/2007/02/18/sports/sports3.txt
Also remember, Nutt is going to say whatever he can to protect his own head, so take what he says with a grain of salt and know that he has to look out for his own job.
planoguy:
Mustain's benching was 100% political. Here is the most in-depth explanation you can find about the reasons behind the benching -
http://realhognews.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
JJH4USC - that is so damn funny about the Capitan, I just about fell off my chair from laughter. He is just a damn fool and is in that very small category of non-Trojans on this blog comprised of Reel Bruin, Miguelito and himself. These three come on a USC blog to just start trouble and the Capitan thinks that everyone is out to get Latinos! Wow! He is a damn joke that not one person takes seriously. The more he says something, the more people laugh at him, while he ends up causing harm to the player that he claims he is defending. Truly ridiculous. If someone says something positive about a white quarterback, he gets all riled up and accuses them of racism! Ahem...
There were many reasons why Mustain was benched and his performance on the field was not one of them. That article above is the best version I have read of the situation. So if you have about about 30 minutes to spare, do yourself a favor and read it.
Mustain is a fine young man, with deeply-held religious convictions, and we would be well-served if he became a Trojan. He will be an asset to USC, both on and off the field.
I'm sure when Coach Nutt chooses his starting line-up, he tries to pick they guys who will suck the most. In fact, I have a transcript of his internal thoughts:
(Houston Nutt to himself)
"I tell you what Houston, we've got a problem. That Mustain kid is so clearly the best player on the field, but I just don't like him and that coordinator Malhzan. But Coach Nutt, he could help us win the SEC and possibly go to the BCS Championship game. I don't care. That Dick kid is nowhere near the player Mustain is, but I'm putting him in there. I'm going to cut off my nose to spite my face. I just hope he doesn't transfer to USC. I cannot imagine a scenario in which he doesn't start in '08 if he goes there. Pete Carroll would never recruit a kid unless he was going to guarantee him a starting spot. Now where's my ham sandwich, I'm starving."
So you see, Mustain really was the best quarterback on the team. Coach Nutt just doesn't like to win ballgames. Heck, if Mustain had started against us, Arkansas would have won the game 50-14 instead of losing by that same score. If only Coach Nutt wanted to win more, that SOB!
sureshot32: that's just the reason why Booty started and Sanchez was on the bench. It had nothing to do with length of time on the program. Booty is just eight standard deviations better than Sanchez and will be this year as well, end of discussion.
As for the other discussion - Mustain is also several standard deviations better than Sanchez.
Sanchez is a dead man walking right now.
Since we keep hearing the same arguments over and over, here goes:
Potentially, there are a lot of positives to having MM on the USC football team. But are we just fooling ourselves to think there aren't some question marks?
Before the 2006-07 season, has a QB with an 8-0 record ever been benched? To say a coach in the SEC, with a possible BCS bid at stake, made a 'political' decision to bench the QB is silly. Even if it was 'political,' Coach Nutt must have believed that ANYONE could QB the team and they would continue to have success because of the ground game.
That seems to take some of the luster off the '8-0 as a starter' ribbon. Again, do the victories over Vanderbilt and Alabama impress much? Finally, MM may have started the 8th game against South Carolina, but he contributed nothing to the victory.
The MM era at Arkansas has ended with a team in turmoil. The blame is not all on MM, but he must accept some responsibility for the situation.
If his arrival causes similar turmoil at SC, then I'm 100% against his transfer. If he arrives and works hard, proves himself in practice, and earns the respect of the coaches and his teammates, then he should be an asset to the program. In my mind, MM still has a lot to prove, '8-0 as a starter' notwithstanding.
TrojanSAEinNYC,
Fine Young men do not send thier mother to go to the AD office to complain about playing time. I could care less about his "religious convictions" this kid is a punk.
uscjd:
I agree that Mustain has a lot to prove. But let's make something clear, Sanchez has FAR more to prove than Mustain, both on and off the field.
You can say what you will about Mustain on the field, but you can't take away what he was asked to do at gametime. Any way you look at it, he did win those games. Off the field, he hasn't had any issues that I am aware of.
Now as far as Sanchez is concerned, he has done nothing on the football field whatsoever since coming to USC and off the field, he has been arrested and thrown in jail for a sex crime. He has also been in trouble for altercations involving incidents at a fraternity house and a party.
As far as I am concerned, Sanchez has everything in the world to prove, both as a football player and in regards to his off the field actions. Compared to Sanchez, Mustain is a near saint!
Getting back to on-field performance, there are many variables regarding Mustain's benching, with many different sides presented. If it was a simple case of Dick being better than Mustain, there would not have been so much heat on Nutt having to explain himself to the media and boosters the past two months. There are many sides to the story and the fact that Arkansas' program is now in disarray speaks volumes regarding Nutt's leadership (or lack thereof).
Since Damian Williams is already at USC, and Carroll obviously had no problem offering him a scholarship, clearly Carroll is not too worried about any perceived baggage the Arkansas boys will bring to USC.
Then again, Carroll may not even be at USC come 2008, so this entire point will be moot.
So for now, I have no reason to doubt Mustain's sincerity for coming to USC and I don't believe he has as much to prove as Sanchez does.
LBC_ROB -
Is Sanchez not a punk, too? Was he not the only freshman to be hazed by the upperclassmen by having his head shaved? They couldn't stand him, his attitude, his demeanor and the things he said, so they taught him a lesson by shaving his head. Then Carroll got mad at the upperclassmen for the head shaving, when Sanchez went to him and complained about being singled out.
Is he not a punk by getting arrested for raping a girl?
Is he not a punk for lying to the LA Times in August about incidents and evidence against him that were captured on videotape but which he blatantly denied? Again, he denied evidence that was CAPTURED ON VIDEOTAPE! The reporter even stated that he couldn't believe that he was being blatantly lied to by Sanchez about videotaped evidence.
So let's not get carried away here, Sanchez is huge punk. He's the only freshman who annoyed the upperclassmen so much with his attitude, they held him down and shaved his head and he went crying to Carroll. He has lied in an interview to a major newspaper. He has been arrested for raping a student. He has been in jail.
If Mustain is going to be called a punk, let's call a spade a spade and put the same well-earned label on Sanchez, too.
Colt McCoy of Texas was 10X more productive in his freshman year than Mustain and had 10X's the pressure replacing VY on a championship team. Also got himself some nods for Heisman.
BTW, there's not gonna be a "new system" installed. They MAY put in a few plays out of the shotgun, and they MAY NOT. This plays to Booty's strengths as he ran the shotgun during his HS days. Maybe fewer tipped balls.
AlwaysBeatND - Colt McCoy was a redshirt freshman, not a true freshman. He also had a much better supporting cast at Texas than Mustain had at Arkansas, with the nucleus of the national championship team returning.
Two totally different situations.
TrojanCNTV,
You don't like Sanchez I get it. But to praise this kid as the next coming when he hasn't even said that he is going to transfer here to SC yet is quite another. Since we are calling out freshmen what do you think the Arkansas upper classmen thought of Mustain's Mommy going above the coach's head to go the the AD to complain?
LBC_ROB -
It has nothing to do with whether I like someone or not. Just be consistent. If you're going to call one person a punk, then by the same token, call the other person that same definition which has been more than earned on numerous occasions and to a far greater extent.
I have no idea what Arkansas' upperclassmen thought, so can't comment on it one way or the other.

Fight On!
Did someone say that Dirty Sanchez went crying like a little bitch to Carroll when the big bad older boys shaved his head? What a little bitch!
Dirty Sanchez is going to get used to crying a lot more when Mustain makes him his full-time little bitch!
TrojanCNTV ,
Ok fair enough I'll call Sanchez a punk and you can stop with all this Mustian is so great crap. THE KIDS MOTHER WENT TO COMPLAIN FOR HIM!!!!! TO THE AD!!!! You call that a fine young man?
Rusty Tombone again conducting the Usual Suspects Orchestra playing some pieces alright...
LBC_ROB -
No, I will not stop saying that Mustain is a great player, because he has proven that he is a great player in college, in the toughest conference in the country.
There is more to the story than simply saying "his mother went to complain for him." I suggest you read that link above by FluorTower.
But if you're going to bring up the entire thing about someone's mother going to complain for them, do you not remember, in 2004, how the parents of the USC basketball players went to Mike Garrett and demanded that he either fire Bibby immediately or they would transfer? By your definition, would that not make the entire USC basketball team "punks"?
Do I think Mustain is a fine young man? Quite frankly, yes. What his mother may or may not have done has no relevance on whether he is a fine young man or not. From everything I have heard about Mustain, he has never been in trouble, is well-liked and lives a moral life. If that's not a fine young man, then I don't know what constitutes one.
"Unfortunately, I look forward to your future posts that will probably...call me a ‘Ususal Suspect’”... and “go on....and on....and on...and on about your imaginary orchestra and percussion instruments.” -JJH4USC
“Rusty Tombone again conducting the Usual Suspects Orchestra playing some pieces alright...” - El Capitan
Right on cue!
LBC_ROB, didn't Leinart's father meet with PC in the summer of 2003 and say that unless his son started, he was going to transfer? I guess that makes Matt Leinart a punk, right?
El Capitain...didn't take long for your theory to be proven right. I think there is some racism involved.
Why Sanchez character smashed? All we know he and a girl got drunk and went to bed. Next morning she had guilt. I wouldn't buy if for a moment rape occurred.
There is more to CF than winning. You stack positions with too much and some kids who would of made NFL do not. Not every kid can do what Matt Cassel did.
Right now USC is a 3-year wait 2yr play cycle. Would be nicer if numbers reversed. If Mustain comes then 2 High School players of the year compete for same 2 years. Will both then go to NFL? Is there something more important than winning.
Sanchez was recruited for the job, USC is lucky to have him. This is kid who PC has said has advanced best ever through the program. Yes, I believe he is owed the shot. It's honor. If John Unitas rose from the grave and I would say no. Sanchez has waited patiently for his turn and is probably best recruited QB ever.
Mustain could end up on short end and it won't be fair to him. Remember the freshman starter from Purdue who came to USC and never played.
Can PC make to many sells pitches? How many running backs does he have? Is the answer for 2008 to have one QB for each tailback?
Their goes JJH4USC one of the usual suspect redneck racist clowns playing his saxphone along with all the other racists who want to attack people who Latinos. Evryone is on my side but the usual suspects and there orcstra have to keep bringing race into the case when it is over and done with by evryone before. It must kill you racist rednecks that I can get all your caucisian women. All these white women love Latinos and this makes you all mad so you come and attack Sanchez because he is Latino. You are all Klansmen and sick rednecks who are jealous of Latinos so the usual suspects attack an innocent Latino player and all other Latinos to promote a lily white player. Stupid white sheet waring Klan racists!
Mr. Morantz:
I agree 100% that Sanchez is owed the job of starting at quartback. He has been around longer than Mustain so he should start. If he does not start it is becaus the racist usual suspects and there ever growing orchestra attacked his name in the court of public opinion with there anti Latino racist redneck garbage. They cant handle a Latino being better than a white player so they have to keep bringing up dropped charges to promote a white player. The only reason Mustain is being considered is he is white. If Sanchez' last name was Smith none of the usual suspects would say anything about him and they would never bring up his arrest which he was never chrged for anything. Trumped up rape charges against a Latino to hold him down. Racists!
Does anyone have links regarding these allegations:
Sanchez being singled out as the only freshman to be hazed?
Sanchez crying to Carroll about his head being shaved?
Leinart going to Carroll and threatening to leave the program if he didn't start?
PC & Sark installing an entirely new offensive system next year?
PC bringing in Mustain with the expressed purpose of starting over Sanchez and Corp (not just as another good qb on the roster)?
A UCLA grad getting a job?
Without proof, I don't neccessarily buy in to any of these allegations.
FIGHT ON!
Did someone steal El Cap's password and post as him? That seems as out there as I've ever read on this blog. Not sure if that's a real post or someone posting as him. I hope it's the latter because racial attacks by either side of the isle are just plain wrong.
-WTF?
sureshot32:
You have a computer so do a damn Google search yourself. No need to keep bringing up past history of jealous older players hazing Sanchez because he was Latino. Thats why he was singled out and they cut his curly hair to immasculate his Latino features. I am happy Pete Carrol got mad at them and told them if they ever laid there hands on Sanchez again they would be punished. Shaving Sanchez' hair was racially motivated and they would not have done that if he had not been Latino. So quit joining the usual suspects by bringing up this anceint history again about a Latino player being hazed because of his race. If you want to know about it go look it up on Google its all there. Dont keep bringing up this racist redneck crap here.
Thank you.
In a word, WOW!
sureshot32:
Typical that you are joining the usual suspects and playing the part of the drummer. You brought race into this, not me. No one else is bringing race here and it is over and done with. I have moved so you should as well.
Forgive me I don’t have the time right now to answer this fully, but I was not aware that Bob Leinart went to PC and did that however I’m not quite sure if I am just going to take your word as fact. As far as Henry Bibby the players should not have had to do that he should have been fired years before it even got to that. And I have read the link you mentioned and I have also talked to many Arkansas fans about this matter and there take is pretty much “don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.”
I respect your guys opinion but as a former ah never mind. I don’t like what went down between the parents and the AD. The kid was benched for a reason he was not running the plays called in. Questioning Sanchez’s charter is fine but he was not proven guilty of anything and I for one stand by the kids that we have not ones who maybe going to transfer and ones that have a history of whining.
But let’s take a step back if he comes great let him and Mark fight it out and let PC and Sark decide who is going to start? Last time I checked their football judgment is quite a bit better than anybody reading this blog.
For the one or two of you who have yet to figure it out (and I have no idea how you could not have figured it out by now), the REAL usual suspects are El Capitan, miguelito and ReelBruin. They are nothing more than trolls who have no affiliation with USC and come on this board simply to cause trouble in order to compensate for their miserable and lonely lives.
Stop feeding their drivel and they will go away.
Fight On!
From what I remember about the Leinart situation, it wasn't so much a "he either starts or he transfers" situation, as much as father and son going to Carroll's office and saying, "Matt's going to transfer unless...."
It's probably the same thing, but wording can be taken many different ways.
SAE: those two statements mean exactly the same, merely ordered in reverse.
EC: What racists on the team were holding down Sanchez? Was it Oscar Lua, or Rey Malaluga? Duce Latui or Winston Justice? Who was wearing the white sheets and pillow cases? LaJuan Ramsey, Sedrick Ellis, or Mike Garrett? The answer... no one!
The SC team is very diverse and that's one of the thing's I've always admired about them. There are certainly racists in this world, but I don't think any of Sanchez' teammates are among them.
Mark Sanchez was probably hazed because that's what happens to hot-shot freshmen in college. They get hazed. I don't think there was anything personal or racist about it. PC stepped in and put a stop to the hazing immediately afterwards so no one else was hazed. That's it and that's that.
Sanchez' teammates don't hate him, nor are they racists. Nothing more or less.
EC - I am very disappointed in you today because for someone that jumps down the throat of anyone that makes the smallest typo, you had quite a few spelling errors in your post.
So here are your free spelling tips for the day, (which if you practice and learn them might enhance your future posts):
1. “saxphone” - is spelled saxophone. (If you are going to talk about musical instruments all day long...learn to spell the names of the instruments correctly.)
2. “Evryone” and “evryone” - should be spelled “Everyone” and “everyone”, respectively.
3. “orcstra” - is spelled orchestra. (Like the comment above, if you are going to talk about all of the people that are in your imaginary “orcstra”, spell it as orchestra.)
4. “rednecks” - is not a word, but there is a phrase “red neck(s)”, which is what I think you were shooting for.
5. “caucisian” - also not a word. I think you meant to say “Caucasian”. And thank you for elegantly sharing your sexual accomplishments to this fine USC Sports Blog. But when you were referring to all of the “caucisian women” that you were able to get, were you referring to the "broad division of humankind covering peoples from Europe, Western Asia, the Middle East, parts of India and North Africa....or were you just referring to red neck women?
6. Finally “waring” - ...you guessed it, also not a word. But I think you meant “warring”.
Finally, please watch the tone and content of your posts, it does not enhance the quality of your argument.

1.
Best counter argument is if freshman can beat you out why not transfer?
Qb is a unique position. Only one plays (watch UCLA problem next year).
Rey beating out Lua meant nothing. Both played and Lua played best.
Keyshawn transferred in but it didn't put anyone on bench for season. Recievers, rotate.
MC and ML both were bench sitters and only one could have a career. Unfairness was taking Purdue transfer. End of his career.
Booty better than Sanchez? Of course, but then Booty played a year. What if it was reversd. Didn't Booty have an edge because he put 3 years in?
What if Booty goes down next year and Mark takes USC to NC title?
AS to reporter and video tape if any truth I missed that one. Has anyone seen video? Does anyone know what was on it? Was it a scene from Animal House? Did it co-star Rob Lowe?
TrojanSAEinNYC,
As I said earlier I respect your opinion and if Bob Leinart did do that I would think that is was a pretty punk ass thing to do. I for one do not think you are a racist or anybody else here you guys just don’t think that a young man accused of what Mark was being accused of is somebody you want representing SC. I can respect that and I can do it without calling people names and throwing around racism where it does not belong. El Jackass well never mind, you are really to far gone dude I fell sorry for you to be honest.
Forgot, one last comment.
Someone wrote USC will have shotgun next year. If "I left my career In Oakland" Kiffen had it last year UCLA would probably have lost.
I think due to the addition of Morton and more responsibility to Sark, it will be rare, if ever, anyone comes within 3 touchdowns of USC next yer (as long as receivers emerge)
I don't get what all the debate is about. Neither of these two kids (Mustain or Sanchez) will just be given the job of starting quarterback at USC. The '08 starter is going to have to earn it...period!
I welcome Mitch to the team (if he in fact comes), the same way that I welcome Aaron Corp to the team. I wish them the best...and can't wait to see what the future holds!
El Payaso aka El Capitan,
While I know I should have just stopped after I addressed your numerous grammatical errors, and I know arguing with you is like arguing with a five-year-old (because you are just unable to comprehend everything that I am saying), your last post was so ridiculous and so embarrassing (to you) that it requires one final response. (And in all honesty, I hope Sureshot32 is right, and that some knucklehead hijacked your name because your posts are way out in left field these days.)
There is nothing funnier than some mentally unstable person that refers to himself as El Capitan calling someone who is part Argentinian , cómo se dice en español... a “usual suspect redneck racist clown”. You know what happens when you A-S-S-U-M-E things?
And let me ask you one last time...when did I ever make a single racist comment (specifically attacking Latinos) and/or attacking Mark Sanchez because he is Latino? Actually, I will tell YOU...nunca (I wonder why that is). I can just see you now, calling Pete Carol a red neck and a racist, if Mustain actually comes to USC AND beats out Sanchez...maybe then you will go follow some other school's team that you did not attend either.
Here are some tips you might want to remember in the future: (1) Just because someone disagrees with your opinion does not make them a racist; and (2) just because someone thinks that you write asinine posts does not make them a racist. (If you can’t remember these tips, you might want to find a new hobby and leave this Blog to the USC Alums and fans that actually like to discuss sports.)
In the future, try to stay on point because like 28th Street said, YOU are alienating yourself and becoming one of the USUAL SUSPECTS along with miguelito, ReelBruin, and Bruinchump that contiunally drag Scott’s threads down with them.
Oh yeah, and watch the spelling!
¡Adiós El Payaso!

JJH4USC
You make points. There is always that reverse racism attack when a job is won but race did not really enter the picture.
I don't think race has anything to do with USC willing to take in Mustain. Or who ultimately plays QB.
To me the racism issue comes from some posters who are bashing Sanchez ("Mustain comes from a good religious background with good morals; Sanchez is a dirty..."). Dennis didn't get this. There is nothing indicating some flaw in Sanchez except speculations. So why is he being attacked. Everyone loved Peete but it does seem there are some fans who have posted suggesting they dislike idea of a Latino at QB.
Of course a racist never considers himself one so this is an argument that goes nowhere. But some posts are rather convincing.
Morantz: The interview that was being referred to was in August 2006 and conducted by Bill Plaschke of The LA Times. It was, subsequently, quoted many times by other newspapers who took it as a sign of Sanchez's less than honest character. The videotape in question was of the night he was arrested, taken at the 9-0.
LBC_ROB: From the limited knowledge I have of the situation, Leinart and father were unhappy with his position on the depth chart and expressed their displeasure with PC, saying that Matt was considering transferring unless assurances were made that he would finally start after two years on the bench at 3rd string. If PC could not give them that, he would ask for a transfer release following spring practice. I have no idea if that was the reason behind Leinart moving past Cassel all of a sudden on the depth chart, but as I said, I have limited knowledge of the situation.
El Capitan and Morantz -
I wholeheartedly disagree with your assertions that Sanchez is "owed" the starting job because he has put in his time at USC is wrong. That is not how Pete Carroll's program works. By your reasoning we probably wouldn't have seen someone like Taylor Mays on the field last year because he was a freshman and there were more tenured defensive backs on the roster when Pinkard went down. When the competition for the position became open again, the coaching staff evaluated their personnel and determined that Mays was the best option. That's how it works at USC.
Coming to USC, every player knows that the only thing they are "owed" is an opportunity to win a starting job. When camp opens, every quarterback on the roster will get a shot to win the starting spot. It's worked that way since Carroll arrived, it'll work that way next year, and if Mustain transfers to USC it will still work that way in 2008.
Sorry for my typo in the first sentence. I know some of you guys jump all over those.
It should read "I wholeheartedly disagree with your assertions that Sanchez is "owed" the starting job because he has put in his time at USC."
Morantz - You also make some great points (and have in your previous posts as well)...but my point is that: 1. I think Mustain is a good player (which doesn’t make me a racist); 2. I could care less about Mustain's religious background or whether or not he is white...because I really don't care; 3. I am part Argentinian so it makes me laugh when EC calls me a racist red neck; 4. I never said "Sanchez is a dirty..." as EC keeps on saying (nor have I ever referred to my Grandmother as dirty...she is actually a clean freak); 5. And finally, let’s wait and watch the best QB earn the starting job in the field because this is USC and that is how we do it!
10 TDs 9INTs....in 8 wins hmmmm....lets see thats about 1.25 TD per game AND 1 INT per game, not too impressive. lets see how he fares in the pass happy PAC 10 with real DBs looking for the pass.....Benched for QB Dick ?? .......the 8 wins , because of Mustain? or despite Mustain? after all they ran ran ran at Ak U with those two top RBs...I need to wait and see how he plays vs the SC D and with real pressure coming at him .....will he stay if he doesnt start? too many questions still....
FluorTower -
The interview was actually conducted by Bill Dwyre, not Plaschke. You're right about the rest, though.
