Position Check
One recruit that has not generated a lot of attention is Malcolm Smith, the little brother of wide receiver Steve Smith. Where will he play? Pete Carroll plans to start Smith at weakside linebacker, a position currently manned by Keith Rivers.
This has nothing to do with the post, but I wanted to say "Congratulations!" to Troy Polamalu (my favorite Trojan), Carson Palmer and Lofa Tatupu on their Pro Bowl berths. Enjoy the free Hawaiian vacation, you've earned it. I look forward to even more Trojans in future Pro Bowls. Fight On!
Wolfie: I think you left out a word. Pete Carroll plans to start Smith "out" at weakside linebacker. He's not going to start ahead of Rivers. Sure, there will be competition at every spot, but you don't PLAN on starting a high school kid ahead of an all-american linebacker. Smith will be lucky if he doesn't redshirt. There's a lot of depth among the nonstarting LBs - Morgan, Luther Brown, Kaluka, Tatum, etc. I don't see Smith getting more PT than those guys.

Great post and along those lines the entire USC secondary went to the PRO Bowl: Ronnie Lott, Dennis Smith, Joey Browner and Chip Banks('82 or '83). That was impressive as well!

Your right about that. I think it was '83. However, they did not all play in the secondary. Chip Banks was a linebacker. He played LB during his days at USC, and in the pros for the Cleveland Browns.
