We hear incoming freshman defensive end Everson Griffen is already being discussed as a starter for next season. Maybe he should have been given a retired number when he signed with USC.

Oh that's pure genius, Scott.

It doesn't matter what you heard, Scott. I'm sure you know that the kid still has to earn that spotting spot. I have said it all along, the only depth chart that matters is the final one posted weeks before the first game. So, I am hoping Everson is ready to work his butt off, versus reading these types of headlines. Otherwise, the young lad will wonder why he isn't as great as everybody said he was. I am hoping that veterans like Keith Rivers and Lawrence Jackson take this kid under their wings and provide some needed mentoring on the pressures of expectations and the rewards of hard work. If he adopts the work ethic of great Trojans before him, perhaps Everson might reach his potential and be mentioned among Trojan greats. I pulling for the kid.
Scott's just jealous because he can't get the same treatment at reputable newspapers based on his journalism skills. Third team beat writer is analagous to the water boy.

Is this a family newspaper? My boys are fans and read this blog on occasion and I think the "c" word is inappropriate.
yeah..i'm surprised PC said at the dinner that EG was number #1 recruit.
It's kind of demeaning to the other recruits, and it puts too much pressure on one guy.

Scott’s just doing his normal job stirring the pot. Hey, isn’t it he that quoted a source saying Everson could play in the league RIGHT NOW. That being the case, why not pencil him in as a starter? I mean SC’s d-line hasn’t exactly overwhelmed the last two years. Of course he'll still have to earn it on the field. Now, retiring his jersey before he even matriculates…that’s just Scott talking out his a$$.
Anyone who's actually watched EG's videos (particularly the one of him at USC's skills camp) knows why PC is penciling him in as a starter. The guy has a motor unlike anyone PC has recruited in the past 6 years and is as close to "ready to start" as it gets on the defensive side of the ball. Plus he allows PC to return to the 4-3 right away and we know PC loves the 4-3.
He's still have to earn that spot though...
Oh and saying EG is the #1 recruit is not "demeaning". These kids are aware that they are not all the same and don't need to be coddled at every turn. They're not 3 year old kids - it's not the first time they've compared against each other and it wont be the last.
What does PC saying EG's ready to start have to do with D. Bing asking for Garrett's number 4 years ago?

I think Scott smells the second coming of the late Darrell Russell - immense talent, but minimal motivation. I am very surprised PC would pump him up at this point.
The knock on the guy from all accounts is his tendency to take a lot of plays off. We can only hope he matures and works to develop his considerable potential.

Scott. Which retired defensive end number did you have in mind?

And your post Scott? Petty and pointless.
