Tailback Glut
USC has 10 tailbacks on scholarship, or nine with Michael Coleman's switch to fullback. That might be a national record.
Anyone care to speculate who might be playing a different position next season?
Remember a year ago, C.J. Gable was being discussed as a cornerback/athlete.

Yes, it is a tailback glut. It is better to have than lack. Last year every RB available plus a few roster switches were given quite a few snaps. Having said that you never have enough players. Using the old baseball saying you never have enough pitching! My humble $0.02!

Better they're at SC and not at ucla or Notre Dumb. Perhaps Allen Bradford & Stafon Johnson at Safety and CJ Gable at Corner. Besides, you can never be too sure because TB is such a dangerous position.
Did y'all see the free throw disparity last night at Pauley? What a crock those refs were! We didn't lose that game 'cuz of Lod Stewart's technical; it wasn't his fault the refs were in the Ruins' pockets. And I'll admit, that "Just like football!" chant irked me. Can't wait for our football rematch next Dec. Let's beat Arizona and ASU and, hopefully, we'll see the Ruins again in the Pac-10 tourney. Fight On!

yeah it's not the worst problem in the world..don't forget, last year Chauncey and Moody were hurt part of the time so the more the better.
I don't think S. Johnson will move to Safety he said he doesn't want to.
I guess it's who is going to end up getting the most PT? McKnight? Green? Washington? And what happens to the other guys? i.e. Will S. Johnson or Moody want to sit on the bench all year if McKnight lights it up?

Why will anyone be playing a different position? From what I heard they are moving that LB from Norco to FB too..that would make Havili, Bradford, Coleman and Jordan Campbell the FB's and Johnson, Moody, Gable, Green, Mcknight and Washington the TB's
Since Coleman is a real big "IF" that gives us 3 deep in FB's, and Washington and Moody will prob be the starters due to experience, with Johnson, Mcknight and Gable fighting for PT and Green in the Lendale white role...

Having watched film of Marc Tyler, I think he's the real deal. At least as good as Lendale. And the clips of McNight are off the charts. I see this TB scenario playing out like Bush & White. Tyler will eventually be the everydown back and short yardage guy (prob 20 carries per game) and McNight will step into Bush's old role getting something like 10-15 carries per game, returning kicks and punts, and lining up in the slot and motioning out of the backfield. If you look at his carries in all of 2006, I think he had like 70... for the whole year. Not alot of carries for a premier back, but he did score 30 TD's with limited touches, so as much as I never thought I'd see another guy even approach Reggie in terms of breakaway ability, McNight may be in the same ballpark. As far as the other TBs go, I like Bradford, Moody is pretty good, and Gable has skills as well. Some of these guys are going to need to move to another position. It's just too flooded and I doubt they'll be content with sitting around. Pete just needs to play whoever is best, that way if players get upset with a lack of PT and leave, the transfers will come from the less talented players. I don't want to risk either Tyler or McNight leaving before their 4 (or 3) years are up.
As for Mustain, I hope he goes elsewhere. He seems pretty decent but Sanchez and Corp look awfully good and QB is not a position that gets a lot of rotation. If you have too many LBs, DL, or OL, it's a good thing because you can rotate them and everyone gets playing time. Not true with the quarterback position. Too many QBs and a good one may transfer.
That said, great recruiting class Pete. You truly out-did yourself this time.
FIGHT ON!

You can never have enough talent. Remember a year ago when the top 4 backs on our depth chart all had injury or academic issues (chauncey, dennis, reed and coleman).
Chauncey is most likely going to be our every down back (in the mold of lendale white) in '07.
CJ was inconsistent last year but was also a true freshman; he had big games vs ND and Cal's weak defense but followed up with no-shows vs UCLA and Michigans legit D. Will have guys breathing down his neck every practice looking to take his carries so hopefully he steps up.
McKnight fits the mold of the "Reggie Bush" all purpose back and will see the field in '07 in a limited role as a back, receiver and returner. Unless Carroll really trusts this dude to carry a bigger load, we'll probably only get a tease of this guys potential next year.
Moody needs to stop dancing and hit the damn hole!
Bradford has the most potential of our '06 backs in my opinion. Maybe he'll show the coaches something in spring practice.
Tyler and Green, redshirt unless needed?
Stafon ???

What an outstanding problem to have. All of these kids could very well be starting for other Top 25 teams in the country.
Given the potential for injuries & the success of Thunder & Lightning in '03-05, I would use a two or even three rotation at TB. I say give all of these kids equal time in practice and may the better runners win.
As a fan on the outside looking in, I would say my 3 back rotation would be to start Chauncey Washington and rotate in the two freshmen - Tyler & McKnight. Reason being, Tyler is a lighter version of Lendale White, but more shiftier and we probably all agree that this McKnight kid reminds everybody of Reggie. I thought I would never see another Reggie Bush, at least not in another 30 years, but this kid has the potential.
All of this is predicated on whether these two freshmen possess the work ethich that Reggie & Lendale had. Anything less, they will have to wait their turn and mature just like the rest of the depth chart.
I'm hoping they mature over summer. If so, it might make for another exciting season.
