Trivia Time

| | Comments (3) |

Every time I visit Trani's restaurant in Long Beach, I seem to learn something. One of the autographs on the wall belongs to defensive back Jerry Shipkey, who played football at USC in 1943 on an 8-2 team that won the Rose Bowl, went to World War II and returned in 1947 to play football at UCLA. He was then a three-time Pro Bowl pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The real question is whether he was part of the UCLA squad that got destroyed by Illinois in the 1947 Rose Bowl 45-15?

In Shipkey's defense, he WAS a DB on the majority of the Illini yardage (320) came from the ground. Fight On Jerry! I still have love for you.
