Energizer Tailback

C.J. Gable is always mentioned as one of the first tailbacks who would switch positions, but if the Trojans put out a depth chart today, he would be the No. 1 tailback.

CJ Gable is pretty good, but he is too light and doesn't deliver a hit when hit. Alan Bradford has more upside. Maybe with the shotgun, we will see a split backfield with CJ in motion moving into a wheel route and a short "dump off" to AB who would follow him on a delayed basis....you listening Sark?

I can't figure for the life of me what PC sees in this guy. He can't get off the ball well. He can't shake off tackles. He has a flat footed running style that prevents him from running laterally. He doesn't have breakaway speed in the open field. He's a pedestrian running back at best.

Allen Bradford should be switched back over to strong side linebacker-the position he was highly touted at the year he was recruited.

Emmanuel Moody shows flashed, but seems injury prone.

Chauncey Washington probably won't get the grades to play again and Hershall Dennis likely won't get a sixth year of eligibility.

That leaves us with the mystery man, Stafon Johnson and quick scat-back, Desmond Reed.

Where is Joe McKnight when you need him?

CJ Gable is better than people give him credit for. He ain't Reggie Bush and will never be. But he is shifty and can find holes to exploit. When the offensive line blocked he punched holes in opposing defenses (ex: Notre Dame, Arkansas). However, when the line didn't do their job or were false starting half the game (UCLA game) gable got a bad rep. More importantly, he was a freshman and will get faster, bigger, shiftier, etc..over his career at USC

Totally agree that Bradford has to see the field in some form. The guy is too big, athletic, and talented to be on the bench or playing decoy fullback. They could always move him to linebacker to get some experience for next year or straight up play him at tailback. Either way, he is gonna be on the field next year.

I'm surprised you guys are so down on Gable. He was a true freshman last year and was working with, what, the 5th string FB by the end of the season? The kid has talent, you just have to give him some time to get bigger, stronger, and adjust to the speed and intensity of the college game. Even Reggie Bush didn't put up great numbers his freshman year.

Wow. I am actually going to agree with CalPoly(Pomona...not San Louis Obispo)Bruin Fan on this one! CJ Gable showed a lot of promise, especially towards the end of the season as a No. 1 RB. And I will definitely take a CJ Gable/Bradford combo over any of the other USC backs until the young guys like McKnight and Tyler are ready to play.

Cool JJ! You finally got it! I knew we could be friends one day.... well maybe that's too much.

i worked as an usher for usc ast year the least i can get is a walk on tryout the rest of the walkon sucks they weak i am strong i fast i am muscle head i come after the quarter back in a rush i be yelling like ray lewis i say raw i bad at back me and stafon come on stafon is big thats my dog he was recking at dorsey he ran cj gable over we beat sylmar come on stafon was best player in the city not cj i dont think alot has change since high school well i got bigger but how can i get a tryout for real so torch the competion i think i can make an immeidate impact for real i am strong as hell and fast i am baller i bench way more than that skinny fo and run faster on me i tackle that boy he cant blow past me holla at me let me know something

The problem for musclehead is that he replaced his brains with muscle. It would do no good to recruit musclehead because he wouldn't qualify anyway.

what come on i reck my palying does the talking i injure people i hit hard rawwwwwwww i run people over it is a good job someone help me get a chance and you'll see what i am talking about

I, too, have to admit I agree with CalPolyBruin--for once.

"I'm surprised you guys are so down on Gable. He was a true freshman last year and was working with, what, the 5th string FB by the end of the season?"

No fullback by the end of the season, just a ploy.

"The kid has talent, you just have to give him some time to get bigger, stronger, and adjust to the speed and intensity of the college game. Even Reggie Bush didn't put up great numbers his freshman year."

He did pretty well, considering, and he'll find his groove and niche.
