Shotgun U.
USC broke out the shotgun offense today with quarterback John David Booty enjoying the formation he ran in high school.
"It might help us out," Pete Carroll said.
"It's not any big transition for John David."
Vidal Hazelton and Fred Davis got extensive work today with lots of downfield passes. Carroll also praised the freshmen linemen, like Zach Heberer and Butch Lewis.

Comments
Finally! No more batted passes. It seemed like Booty had two or three knocked down per game when he used a 3 step drop.
USC may have gone 13-0 without those batted passes.
I think using the shotgun will really make the offense more explosive, and give Booty more time to find the USC playmakers.

That's what I'm talking about! I have been waiting for them to implement this for a longggg time.

Just what the doctor ordered!
John David, keep the seat warm for one more year and I'll be there.
There's NO WAY Sanchez can compete.
America's #1 QB of All-Time.

Carroll and Sark will also implement some of the spread offense. Great news. Deion Walker and Will Hill at CB. This is awesome.

The team has been running a spread offense (and a spread defense) for the last several years! As in "Spread 'em"!! Ask Mark Sanchez, Rey Maul-a-Student, and Company!
OJ Mayo should walk onto the football team; he would fit right in Slick Petey's group of guys!!!
Smoke On!
Fight On!
Assault On!
Cheat On!

Tell John David Booty not to shoot anyone in the shotgun formation!

Norm Chow took the shotgun out of the SC playbook. He felt it "telegraphed" to defenses that we were going to pass, and made blitzing a smarter bet. As if putting a RB on the line in a WR slot didn't do the same, other than allowing for a possible QB run/sneak.... I hope they mix up the shotgun formation a bit, maybe in front of the QB put a RB in a blocking position who could keep the D worried about a shovel pass or direct snap.

So is Bill a new bruin cry baby or another acronym for I'm a brain dead bruin? So remember Bill, who live's in a glass house, pay backs are painful. By the way are the feds still searching for cadavers in the lockers at fucla? Or have they expanded their search for body parts to all of Westwood?

I agree 100%...
It's about time they went to a shotgun. They don't have to use it all the time, we are not University of Houston. But every once in a while would be nice.
Especially considering the batted pass problem we had. The only thing that worries me is that the long drop of a shotgun = bigger losses in sack yardage. I know JDB has some mobility but he is not exactly Vince Young.
If we would of done this last year maybe we would of gone 13-0 and "13-9" wouldn't have anything to do with himself except go see his shrink again about his USC obsessive compulsive disorder
hahahaha

Giorgio, are you just wishfully thinking that Will Hill and Deion Walker will be our CB's or do you have some hint or info?
The later would be preferable.

Trojan_jp I know for a fact that Deion Walker has already commited to USC. He will announce it publicly when he unofficially visits in May. Carroll is recruiting Will Hill like crazy. he told Hill he wants to have 2 6'3 CB's on the field. As for Bill, he is really Art V from the WW board. A fat white guy that lives in San Clemente. YA!
