Texas just put out a 272-page spring football media guide even though NCAA rules state guides must be limited to 208 pages.

The NCAA has rules on the size of spring football media guides?

I wonder what Notre Dame's media guide looks like? I guess I'll never know.

you know who else had retarded rules like this. The nazis. And look how that turned out.

YAHOO Sports should do an 8 month invetigation on this. OOOPs my bad, YAHOO only wants to exploit USC.

I agree Giorgio. I suspect it has to do with Yahoo's affliation with Stanford.

This is a stupid rule. Why is there a rule about this?

Yep, Giorgio hit the nail on the head...If USC did this it would be on the front page of Yahoo! sports for a week:

"ANOTHER USC SCANDAL!!"

"THIRD USC SCANDAL ALREADY THIS YEAR!"

"YAHOO! SOURCE SAYS SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE TAKEN AWAY!"

"REGGIE BUSH INVESTIGATION CONTINUING!"

It's supposed to be a parity thing. Big time programs like USC and Texas could fill volumes of media guides with information while programs with less illustrious histories (e.g. FIU or UCLA) could not. Yes, it's stupid. It's another example of needless NCAA meddling.

Its simply a response to the powerful tree conservation lobby. Don't forget that its one short month before Arbor Day!

P.S. I think I saw a History Channel documentary on the Nazi's regulation of the size of college football spring media guides. You are correct, jamfan. The NCAA has its sights on Europe. Its just waiting for the right time...

It's a good rule. No one has time to read through 272 pages of team bio.

USC has 12 NCs and they don't need 272 pages. What the hell is UT putting in their media guide? A map of Texas and a full-sized foldout poster of Vince Young?

Good rule? It was actually a pretty overzealous response to perceived inequality in recruiting. Schools were using their media guides not just for providing information to the media, but attracting recruits with flashy pictures and such. USC had to pare down its media guides substantially in response. The 2005 Media Guide stated on the first page:

"New NCAA legislation enacted this past spring limits the number of pages allowed in media guides to 208 pages. Therefore, USC's media guide - which was 408 pages last year - had to be reduced by 200 pages! This was accomplished by eliminating some long-standing material and many photos, as well as reducing type size and changing type font."

Is this why colleges delegated authority to the NCAA? To put a limit on the number of pages in media guides?

SC could fill 300 pages explaining how a "dynasty" only could win 1 national championship in 2004, choked against Texas, and watched LSU hoist the national championship trophy. There could be an additional 50 pages on how the athletic department found a #1 ranking in a Valley Green Sheet in 1948 to capture a 11th national championship!

When Cheatin Pete's crew stops breaking endless rules so the NCAA can finish its investigation, the national championships will be down to 10 with the Bruins picking up two additional wins so their winning streak will be up to 3 in a row after 13-9!

It is also amazing the biggest rule-breaker has been pointing out other college's minor infractions.

Couldn't agree with you more Bill. So tell us all about Sam Gilbert and the purchased championship hardware in Pauley. I think you'll find that the powder blue owns the "biggest rule-breaker" title.

Oh, when you look in the mirror tonight - don't be surprise by the black pot in the reflection.

The nerve of those Bastards! Thanks, Scott for keeping us updated on this very important news story. I am tired of hearing about you know...Spring Practice.

This just in...due to the fact that there was nothing to put in its College Football Program, UCLA has just reduced the size of its Program to 20 pages, 5 pages less than the NCAA minimum page length.

And isn’t it funny how “Bill” is the only one that really ever responds to his own posts?

Rex, nice post, but you can’t argue with the myopic, hypocritical Bruin Fans like Bill and Bruinchump...they just ignore you when you talk about Sam Elliot and Wooden, or the cheating ways of Jim Harrick, or Kareem Rush.

And these Bruins make fun of SC players taking classes at LA Trade Tech College, but ignore the fact that 25% of their own student body is composed of 2 year Community College students that transferred into UCLA!
