Who Loses?

With yesterday's big day of commitments for UCLA, who does it really hurt in the end?
Pete Carroll will end up getting enough players (and had not offered several of those who did commit) and this helps satisfy the Bruin Internet geeks upset with Karl Dorrell.
In the end, it probably only affects USC assistant coach Ken Norton, who will no doubt be frustrated because he recruits the city of Los Angeles, where many of the commitments originated.

Wolf, that sounded to me like a reasonable post.

Actually, I'm not satisfied with CKD. These kids aren't "ours" until they ink it next year. CKD still has to produce on the field this year. So count me out of the "satisfied" column.

LET'S NOT WORRY ABOUT IT! As a true SC fan, all I gotta say is...

"KARL DORRELL. GET THE MAN A LIFETIME CONTRACT!!!"

Frustrated? The only one we were interested in was Moore. We were never going to offer the others.

planoguy is right. Let Karl Dullard have all of the 2- and 3-stars. It wouldn't be fun beating fucla if they weren't at least a first-division Pac10 team.

ReelBruin, do you not get that you're one of those "Bruin Internet geeks" to whom Scott is referring?

Let's be honest. We did offer Jones, and we tried to get him to commit the day before he committed to UCLA, and I was also told that we let Damien Holmes know that we would be offering this week. Still, that's just 3 of the 8 they got. No big deal.

Hey, there are only so many 5-Star recruits that one team can get. Let those on the bottom of the food chain get a few scraps.

You all can add Atwon Moura and EJ Woods to that list that SC was about to offer. So with that said. 5 of the 8 commits, you trojoids wanted on your side of the field. Sucks. But denial isnt all that bad is it?

OH WAIT!!! You all forgot Hester too, so in one weekend that crappy football program in LA, the "other" school you refer to as, recieved 6 verbals from recruits your program felt deserving of an extension. But now oh not them, theyre 3 stars, well we kicked your ass with a bunch of 'underachievers" watch what we do with that talent your school wanted.

I have never seen anything that would lead me to believe Hester or Moutra were going to be offered scholarships.

Hester is a slow, undersized reciever for which USC has no need and Moutra has never been talked about anywhere.

Woods was on the radar but with the commitment of M.Simmons thats just as good.

The two DE's hurt, but there is still Jarrett, Middleton and others out there to go along with the already committment of the best DE in Wes Horton.

Blow your horn when you crack the top 30 in recruiting. Till then go back in your hole. When it's all done and said in Feb, SC will be in the top one, two or three once again and UCLA will be lost somewhere in the middle of the pack around the Tulsa's and Miami's (of Ohio...).

BruinChump -

You bRuins must have a major inferiority complex that you feel the need to constantly compare yourselves to USC and make wild-ass statements that you now "own L.A." based on a fluke win and a 7-7 season.

Congratulations on your verbals over the weekend. Now, I wouldn't be as excited over some mid-tier players as you are - but our expectations are obviously different.

You can gather up all the "talent" that Dullard can find, but you still have Dullard leading the ship. Good luck with that.

As for your calling a 13-9 upset win with an "ass-kicking", you need to get some perspective. An ass-kicking is 66-19. Again, we have a difference in expectations.

See you and your "talent" next year.

This is getting old. Since when is a four-point win (despite a tipped interception on a last-minute drive) an ass kicking?

A 40+ point loss, now THAT's an asskicking.

Talk to me when you beat us 8 years in a row. Also, we own the Gaylen center. Nice showing against Oregon by the way. Your coaches are too dumb to discipline those racist gringos and it will hurt your recruiting in the south and the inner city. University of Skinheads and Crips......LOSE ON!!

Miguelito, talk to us when you take the lead in the series, or win 10 more national championships. Until then, you might want to stock up on other teams' t-shirts to wear to the Rose Bowls you'll be watching USC play in.

Actually it is only 8 national championships!

LSU was the national championship in 2003.

An obscure #1 ranking in 1947 by some fishrag doesn't count either.

Lastly, when Slick Petey hands over the 2004 national championship to Oklahoma thanks to Reggie Bush, there will nothing to show for the so-called Dynasty! Cheat On!!

Shouldn't a "Dynasty" win a national championship?

OK, then by that logic UCLA has no national championships (i.e. 1954 was split).

8 > 0.

BTW: the Galen is a year old and UCLA played one game there, winning by a last-second shot. Ok, you "own" it. Whatever.

More realistically, USC owns the Rose Bowl. How does it feel to see "USC" and "Champions" listed together dozens of times on your home field wall when you walk in? Must suck.

Bill,

If USC doesn't get to keep it's 2003 Championship doesn't that mean that UCLA has now never won one?

Don't be an ass. Again Bruins are idiots.

My you trojoids are so easy to ruffle. That fluke win seems to really bother all of you for some reason. Can one of you all tell me why? Clue me in...Oh and did O "jay" talk with slob master floyd about his caddy ride? haha such a reputable sports program.

I'm sorry Bill but "Actually it is only 8 national championships!" might be the worst trash talk I have ever seen...

"Boo - you suck. Your football program has 8 more NC's than us"

Good one. Only a Bruin would say something so supremely moronic and think it's an insult.

Little Michael - How could UCLA own the Gaylen center (which is spelled Galen Center) when UCLA can’t even afford to renovate its own outdated basketball arena? And when did UCLA (when they were No. 1 team in the Country at the time) start bragging about beating USC in Basketball...on a last second shot?

Geoff - Nice post...I think USC fans are starting to see a pattern with the Bruins on this Blog...they are all hypocrites!

Bill - How many Basketball or Football National Championships has UCLA won in the last 10 years? Rose Bowls? Maybe we should start taking away Slicky Wooden’s B-Ball Championships since all of his players were taking handouts from Sam Gilbert...allegedly! And like Tyler said...you really got us...USC - 8 Football National Championships, UCLA - 0!

And finally, Bruinchump - what are you still doing hanging around here? You exposed yourself as a shifty hypocritical Bruin in your previous post and were called out...and for some reason you keep chiming in? And speaking of reputable, your opinion no longer carries any water (not like it ever did)! You change your tune more than the Bush Administration!

Missing Person Report: Anyone seen El Capitan or did he retire his keyboard?

El Cap's not gonna exhale again until I decide whether or not to join your hallowed program. But this "White Nation" thing has got me really interested.

JJ what the hell are you talking about. Being hypocritical. Hmm, chnage my tune. Your ridiculous, where have i once change my opinon of UCLA, not to mention that i have always had the same despise for SuC. Good stuff JJ.

It bothers me that at times it seems like more UCLA fans are browsing this blog than paying attention to Dohn's Bruin blog. That's a shame because Dohn does a great job with his website and actually interacts with his fans. Scott's blog entries get 20+ comments on a regular basis while Dohn's tends to have a lot of zeros.

A bit of sincere advice: you Bruin fans wouldn't look so envious of our team if you spent more time with your own fans rather than carousing our boards. I understand the whole "keep your enemies closer" mentality but at this point it looks like an obsession.

I must say, these arguments are quite entertaining to watch

Bruinchump -

You're in love with SC football and we all know it. You're here more than Brian's log. In fact you rarely commit on Brian's log. Tell us more about SC recruits. We know you know!

Well let me break it down for you trojoids: i am a member of a couple pay sites, therefore i do not need to be on Dohn's blog very often. Trust me i read it everyday, however ive already commented and made my opinon on a couple other boards before i read his. Therefore, i skim his update then make my way over here to say the daily doings of USC. Did you all follow?

Dohn does have a good blog and lots of people read and comment. The difference is that Dohn screens the comments instead of just letting anyone post whatever they want. This "blog" is more like a glorified message board where only Scott Wolf gets to start new threads. It is heavy on trash talk and low on substance.

It is heavy on trash talk and low on substance...and so are your posts.

Dear Bruin Fans:

Seems a little early to be trash-talking about the "quality" of 2009 recruits. Wouldn't it make more sense to wait until then and see who delivers, and who does not? There is a long way to go.

Seems like your trash-talking should be centered on the quality of this year's team and the upcoming season - or have you given up on that already?

Bruinchamp, you are right, Dohn does screen comments. On several occasions, I've read UCLA fans/alumni dogging the USC's football players academic abilities. I've provided "specific numbers" (not trash talk) to Dohn's blog documenting USC and UCLA's football teams academic performance. Each time, after demonstrating USC's superior academic performance, my comments were deleted by Dohn. For the record, per the most recent NCAA Academic Progress Rates Report, which assessed 239 Trojan players from the 2003-04 to the 2005-06 seasons, USC scored an APR of 947, placing the program in the 70th percentile among Division I football programs and second highest in the Pac-10 behind Stanford (987). UCLA's APR? The Bruins, at 931, are right at the average, which matches the Bruin’s 7-7 very average football team.
