Bada Bing!

USC is returning to New Jersey in its search for a linebacker with Brendan Beal of Roxbury, N.J., the current target. Florida and Ohio State already offered Beal (6-3, 235) along with Notre Dame.
Remember, Irish coach Charlie Weis told Brian Cushing he would not lose any more recruits to USC from his home state.

So ole Charley Tune wants to infiltrate the "Soprano" families of New Jersey. Apparently he's not happy about dealing with just the Chicago Mob, now he want the East Coast Mob to. Bet he gets the Godfather "Vito Belichick" on the phone to ask for a favor.

Yeah, Fat-boy does pretty well in his homey-state, but watch out for Rutgers. When their coach, Greg Schiano, turns down Miami's HC position, change is in the air. Mr. Brendan Beal, if you sign with the domers, you'll be 0-4 vs. USC. Count on it.

Roxbury's Beal has offers from some of nation's best

Roxbury junior Brendan Beal was told he'd get a lot of interest from college football recruiters. But Ohio State? Florida? USC?

Those three -- not to mention Rutgers, Notre Dame, Michigan, Virginia, and many others -- have already offered the linebacker full scholarships.

When the 6-3 1/2, 235-pound Beal first began thinking about what college he'd attend, he considered Ivy League schools such as Princeton, Harvard, Yale and Penn. But then he realized that colleges more known for their football might pride themselves in academics as well.

"The Notre Dame business school is tops in the country and Virginia is No. 2," said Beal, who has a 4.3 grade-point average and would like to work in the finance world. "They could make my dream of going to the pros possible. The academic part is huge because not everyone makes it to the pros."

Beal's stock rose dramatically earlier this month when he ran a 4.55 in the 40 at Chuck Mound's High School Pro Day at the Superdome in Waldwick. Mound text-messaged more than 20 college scouts and the word was out about Beal.

Before long, Roxbury coach Cosmo Lorusso sent film to all of the top programs in the country and Beal was suddenly a wanted man.

One of the coaches Beal has drawn interest from is Greg Schiano at Rutgers. At Rutgers Junior Day, Beal spoke with Schiano in his office --alone -- for an hour. The coach then introduced Beal to all of the Rutgers luminaries at a recent basketball game.

"He told me he sees me as his next Dan Morgan," Beal said, referring to the former Miami Hurricane linebacker. "I loved hearing that. That showed me I have the ability to start early."

"He'd like to graduate from Roxbury in December and get to spring practice," said Beal's father, Craig, who played linebacker at Boston College before graduating in 1982. "Colleges are telling him he'll be an impact player. Guys are telling him he'll see the field as a sophomore in college."

"This is all pretty overwhelming," Beal said. "I knew a lot of colleges told me during sophomore year I'd get hit with all the offers. I'm just so happy. I thank God every day. Coach Lorusso been tremendous helping me get these offers and I cannot be grateful enough."
