Sounds like another typical 'SC spring practice. We have the worst luck with injuries!

After this many years, it is safe to say this is not about luck, but by-product of system.

Oh for the love of God, everyone relax. Last time I checked, it is still April. As long as the injuries are not sever enough to end of the players 2007-08 season, then so be it. Injuries are never good, but if you are going to have an injury, let it happen in the Spring and not the Fall. Everyone is quick to blame the system (PC) when injuries hit during the spring, but when USC wins a National Championship, then everyone wants to show the love for PC. Why don't you all show the love for PC and his staff 365, 24/7, instead of just after winning a National Championship.

I'm with you, kptrojans. When I was at SC - 1996-2000 - those were some of the most bleak years for the program. As far as I can tell, winning two national titles, coming up just short on a third, and dominating Michigan in the Rose Bowl last year seems like a pretty good run from where I'm sitting. Football's a rough game and kids are going to get hurt. Overanalyzing it beyond that seems a little ridiculous, especially if we're calling into question a system that has generated such success.

I think these early injuries are part of what makes the system work. Pete pushes hard early and often to find and heal/fix the weak spots. It's scary to watch, but it is truly survival of the fittest.

USCNY and 2000Trojan have hit the nail right on the head. The nature of USC's practices under PC is what has both resulted in the unprecedented success and the rash of seemingly constant injuries.
USC practices at such a high level each and every day that more guys than normal are bound to get hurt.
It's what makes PC's coaching style so unique and successful. PC could probably scale back to avoid injuries but then the on-field performance would probably slip a lot. It's one of the reasons PC goes after so much quality depth on the recruiting trail.
Notice that the practices also help in recruiting as well. Whenever you read comments by new targets they always mention the pace of USC's practices as one of the things that stands out. They run everywhere and hit hard. It's PC's intent to make the practices harder than an actual game.
I would submit that it's paid off in spades. USC has been in the NC picture till the last week of the season every year since 2001. Not many other teams can say that. Actually none of them...
