Injury Update

Center Matt Spanos, who took over the starting spot this week, suffered a high-ankle sprain and will miss the rest of spring and probably be out quite a bit longer than that.
``It's real frustrating,'' Spanos said. ``I finally got out there and this happens.''

This is very disappointing for Matt. He has the size and skills to be a very solid player next year. I hope that he heals quickly enough for fall camp.

How long until someone blames Carroll and the strength and conditioning coaches for this?

Blame Pete for what?

Players get hurt in the most physical sport in America. Its not like its exclusive to USC.

Most of these injuries happen and just to be safe the players sit out spring practice. Come season time, you would see a lot of these guys playing with these injuries.

Trojan JP, I know. I agree on all counts. There have been rumblings by some of the posters on this blog about how USC seems to suffer and incredible amount of injuries and sometimes those posters go on to wonder if this happens because Carroll works his players too hard or they don't train properly. I was just making a little preemptive joke before someone blamed the coaching staff again for an injury that can only be the result of an accident and has nothing to do with conditioning. Most of USC's injuries fall into this category, I think (sprains, fractures, and ligament damage, for example). It's no one's fault.
