Open Forum Answers, Part II

Here's answers to the latest questions on open forum. Stragglers can ask questions today on this entry if they wish.

If one area of the team grew in the past two weeks, it’s the offensive line. The coaches believe Butch Lewis, Charles Brown, Zach Heberer and Thomas Herring are all progressing into reliable backups. This is fairly significant if true regarding Herring, because he almost quit the team last summer.

Among incoming freshmen, quarterback Aaron Corp seems the most frequent visitor. Everson Griffen, Marc Tyler and Broderick Green all attended more than one practice.

Josh Pinkard is not cleared to practice but said he feels fine and thinks he could play by the end of spring if it were necessary, which it isn’t. Stafon Johnson’s been a combo of a power back with some breakaway speed during past scrimmages. Joe McKnight is supposed to fill Reggie Bush’s role in some ways, because Pete Carroll wants to throw to him out of the backfield.

Stafon Johnson cannot redshirt because he played last season, notably in the Stanford game.

Carson quarterback Dominique Blackman has been an enthusiastic visitor to USC practices and would love to play for the Trojans. But it’s too soon to say if he will be offered a scholarship.

Brandon Hancock realizes his body cannot take the punishment of pro football and wants to start a career in broadcasting.

Pete Carroll does have some influence in New England, because he has a cordial relationship with Patriots coach Bill Belichick. It’s doubtful Belichick would ask him too much about Lua, however, because he didn’t consult Carroll much before drafting Cassell.

Thanks for the update Scott.

Here's a stragglers question(s):
How often is the shotgun being experimented with in practice? Who's looking good out of it? Is there any chance of Sark implementing it next year?

What happened to Rey Maualuga's left hand/wrist?

Did he break it?

Who did he punch out this time, Scott?

Engineering students, frat boys, or UCLA football players?

Seeing as though he owns the police, I would could assume he beat up a cop on campus!

"Bruinbeast" doesn't seem to be able to grasp how typekey works...haha

Must be that fine UCLA education...

Man these idiots like "bruinbeast" really remind of how much UCLA just basically sucks ass in general...that huge choke in football vs. Notre Dame basically made them a laughing stock, but choking AGAIN in basketball vs. Florida is pretty funny too. and man that was a beat down by Florida st. hahaha

Oh boy OK I know "13-9" your pack of retards in metrosexual powder blue uniforms actually beat us for the first time in 8 years..If I was a UCLA fan I would be more embarrassed than anything. Posting about that just shows the intelligence level of the typical university of crud in los angeles fan..

Well bruinbeast, reelbruin, and the rest of you unemployed 40 year olds living with mom, what's it gonna be this year? another choke to Notre Dame? another beat down in a bowl game? Another 6-5 year? Someone else doing their Justin Medlock impression and rolling their car while drunk? Can I get some free parking too? hahaha what a shit hole..can you guys go back to whatever hole you crawled out of, stop trying to tell us how UCLA academics are better than Yale or something, your shitty ass football team is so great and all this other garbage you post on here and find something constructive to do with yourself? Maybe see if Medlock is still on the wagon?

:o))

Hey Scott,

How many Offensive Linemen is Coach Carroll looking to recruit for the 08' class?

How has special teams looked? How is the new kicker? Who is returning kick offs this spring?

Scott: I like the new format; can you please clarify the rules, restrictions, etc. on campus and practice visits by recruits.

As a DT reporter, I love the blog and all of the inside information you're able to obtain. Congratulations on that.

As for my question: Is there any update with the QB situation? Has Sanchez been performing well enough to (potentially) usurp Booty?

Wow, thanks Scott. You answered all four of my questions.

I'm really a fan on the Open Forum. I'll try and stay quiet for awhile so you won't get sick of it.

Thanks Scott for all the info! What is the possibility that Stafon Johnson will transfer?
How is Marc Tyler looking?
Is he getting to play at all in practice?

Hey Scott is USC1966 born in 1966?

Marc Tyler cannot participate in practices because he is still in high school, along with the rest of the '07 recruiting class.

How is Cary Harris doing? With all the injuries in the secondary I assume no news is good news?

Hey CalPolyBruinFan, is that your name on Scout.com as well?

How come UCLA's Quarterbacks are far superior to USC's?

Patrick Cowan and Ben Olson are NFL bound!

On the other hand, Booty is CFL-bound and Sanchez will never start at SC!

Why, oh why, Scott, must we Bruins be far better athletically, academically, and aesthetically than these Trojans?

I mean, when was the last time Patrick Cowan or Ben Olson had a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage? LOL

How was that beat down at the hands of "clueless" Roy Williams and "overrated" Tyler Hansbrough?

LMAO!

That blown 16 pt. lead was hilarious! I am glad I "wasted" my Friday night watching that comedy act you guys pulled against that weak UNC team!

I'm as bummed about our guys' collapse as the next Trojan, but you're really reaching here, Beast.
#1, a 6-pt. UNC lead with 3:06 left that was stretched to 10 with the obligatory final-minute free throws is hardly a beat-down. Or should I proceed to tell you that your 10-pt. loss to Florida in which you shot worse than we did vs. UNC and got outrebounded worse than we did vs. UNC was a beat-down too?

#2, here's Hansbrough's statline from that game:
29 min.
1-6 FG
3-4 FT
5 Pts.
2 Off. Reb.
4 Total Reb.
0 Ast.
0 Blk.
0 Stl.
Whew - that guy's a freaking MONSTER!!! How the heck did we ever get a lead against those guys?!?!

Bottom line, we played the kind of defense that got us there (UNC shot 39%) but gave up waaaaay too many offensive rebounds (19 - that's where Roy Williams was anything but clueless) and just flat ran out of gas by the end. It was a good run, and we'll be even better next year. Quite a turnaround in just two years under Coach Floyd, and we're all very proud of the program and where it's headed.

In the forum I'd like to see 66 19 discuss the 76 66 national disgrace, and then send 13 9 along with the powder blue metrosexuals on the road to the toilet bowel in 2007

Jason says, "It was a good run, and we'll be even better next year. Quite a turnaround in just two years under Coach Floyd, and we're all very proud of the program and where it's headed."

Sorry to break it to you, man.

But USC will be very weak next season.

You will be losing both Nick Young and Gabe Pruitt to the NBA. Wish all you want that they are not bolting, but trust me, people I know at UCLA know both these guys.

Young and Pruitt are gone!!!

Watching how overrated OJ Mayo was in the McDonald's Game, you won't be better next year. Actually, you will be much worse.

A crappy Mayo with no NY and Smilin' Gabe means Kevin Love will make you guys wish you didn't play in the Pac-10!

...what is hilarious is some Bruin Clown that comes onto a USC Football Blog making fun of USC (a football school) for making it to the 3rd round of the NCAA Basketball Tourney (and subsequently finishing 15th in the final polls)...AFTER UCLA got clobbered...by Florida...and failed to win a NCAA Championship... again!

PS - CalPoly...your last email was pretty funny!

Hey TrojanJP! Good to see you on the blogs as well. Yeah, that's my handle on BRO as well. You should come back over there, you were a good poster.

JJH, I'm not sure what you meant by my last e-mail (you mean comment?), but I'm glad you found it funny.

Yea CalPolyBruinFan, you are easily my favorite Bruin fan. You don't just assume i'm flaming as a Trojan fan, but actually read my posts.

I'll still come by and read anything that looks interesting. I may comment on occasion, but i'll not make the mistake of starting a topic again, lol. The beating MelFarr22 and CaliforniaRepublic2 gave me was punishing.

That's cool man. I like banter as much as the next guy and occasionally like to get Trojan fans riled up, but most of the time I'm harmless.

Don't think twice about Mel and CalRepublic. They're are resident flamers and like to give anyone with a Trojan handle a hard time. Just ignore them... I do. =)

Come back and post. We could use more rational discussions on that board.

OK here is a quick impression: (and sorry I am not as good as Jim Carrey)

Who is this?

"Hello and welcome to Jack in the Box can I take your order?"

Answer: Karl Dorrell 2008

hahahahahahahahahahhahaahhahahaahhahahahahahahah

Great touch, Scott. I know alot of us have real specific questions that don't always get answered.

For example, you posted, "...don't even know if Stafon will be at USC next fall.."

I had pretty much discounted the transfer rumours but if you have that in there...well...do you think he is leaving? That would suck but I couldn't blame him.

What kind of battle is going on between O'Dowd and Howell? Now that Byers seems to be out of the race for center and Spanos can't seem to find his classes, it's down to those 2. Does O'Dowd have a shot? Being #1 center in the USA must mean he has some pretty sweet talent...

They are really pushing the O-line as an "area of strength" which means they know they have problems there..after Byers, Baker and Radovich leave this year the cupboard will be bare..I think Herring and O'Dowd are awesome but after that..Butch Davis has some talent..but I don't think Charles Brown, Matt Spanos and Reardon are going to scare anyone..do you see Kalil's brother starting next year?

How much are we going to use the shotgun this season?

And finally, what sucks worse? Losing your car, girlfriend, and job and having your friend drink your last beer, or being a UCLA fan?

A digression to basketball: Pruitt will be back. And then you have an experienced Daniel Hackett and Dwight Lewis. USC weak? That's like saying UCLA can beat Florida.
