Shotgun Fever

USC coach Pete Carroll said he was surprised someone said he implemented the shotgun because of fumbled snaps.
``We want to give the quarterback more time,'' Carroll said.
Actually, we thought it was because of tipped passes and the fact the Trojans no longer feature 6-5 quarterbacks.

Strange...no disrespect to you Wolfy but I thought you were the source of the comment about fumbled snaps. But, if you'd rather take the stance that Carroll implemented the shotgun because of tipped passes than I can roll with that too.

Who's "we"?

The idea of using Shotgun to give our shorter QB's more time and space comes from coach Sark who said it during an interview about a month and a half ago.

A Shotgun offense is not as simple as it looks. It looks great with W.Va, however, you have a coach that has many years of experience. You also need a very good short snapping Center. I am wondering who on USC's staff has experience with this offense?

Scott Wolf

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
