A New World

We hear new Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson is frustrated by the new trend of recruits committing so early. Here it is May and a lot of schools already have 10 commitments.
It was discussed by several other Pac-10 coaches during yesterday's recruiting combine at Stanford, especially since it cuts down so much on evaluation periods and forces schools to offer scholarships earlier than usual, otherwise they might get beaten to the punch by their rivals. You wouldn't want a recruit to feel unwanted after all.

Im with Erickson on this one. It seems each year the battle for recruits starts earlier and earlier. It seems as soon as we celebrate one recruiting class many coaching staffs can barely take a break before they are on the road looking at those coming out of their junior year in HS.

I can guarantee you John McKay never did the extensive recruiting that Pete Carroll is doing. Pete seems to be on the road the year around. Hes at local high schools even out of season.

You have Nike Camps and Super Juniors Camps the year around. I think the competition and the need to get the jump on the other schools is getting out of hand.

I'm sure glad SC has a coach with the correct mindset, energy and enthusiasm to make the best of this challenge, unlike a fossil such as Erickson. Pete's in it to win it, that's for sure.

I also do not like how early the recruiting season seems to start anymore.

I wish there was a way to regulate it, but its not. You have to get out there and make them feel special.

Luckly Pete is top notch at it.

I also agree with DE. Thats why also I believe a early signing period would be bad for CFB. If there was one the 2008 recruiting class would be for the most part done (for most of the major) conferences and we would be talking about all the verbals teams are receiving for the 2009 class. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=674594

On the other hand all these early verbals makes the last two months of the recruiting season interesting with all the de-commits.

Fight On !!

I agree also...It's crazy to have 50% of your recruiting done in May..unless your Texas..haha. Someone might get hurt, their production could drop way off...etc.

I think it is funny that we have all these commits and Rivals.com has not even released their star ratings yet.

66:
"unless your Texas"...
How about?:
unless you're Texas or you are Texas...
You're great Mr. Perfect...

66 I know that it is sometimes tough to actually ignore that sicko but soon enough he'll expand on his true agenda, because he's a sicko and cannot help himself, and then Scott indicated that banishment would happen.
