Galen Upgrade

USC's got the money to install ``ribbon boards'' on each side of the concourse. Ribbon boards are the thin scoreboards that are used for graphics or give scores of other games. Staples Center has them inside their arena. We also hear the entire student section will be on the floor level next season instead of using portions of the upper deck like last year.

Are there signs for the sections yet?

Scott,

I'm not one to complain about something I didnt put any money into. However how come they made the concrete exterior color the dark brown instead of the lighter beige as was displayed in the orginal lay out (simular to the color combination of the parking structures nearby)?

The darker color brown leaves no transition from the red brick on the exterior. It doesnt look too bad up close. From a distance however there is no contrast between the brick and the dark concrete. The building almost just looks like a big block of concrete with no transition at all. I cringe every time I look at the building from a distance.

Maybe somewhere down the line they can paint the concrete a brighter shade of beige.

Just kidding TrojanEncore - thought it was pretty funny. Kinda like those people who insult you and preface it by saying "No offense but...".

I do agree with you about the color scheme though.

I understand that students might not have filled up their section at the beginning of the year. But how was this change in seating authorized?

It was NOT authorized in President Sample's letter to students/faculty after the football seating debacle. It was NOT agreed to by Student Senate. This is now the second year in a row that athletics has unilaterally changed student seats while also saying that no changes would be made without working with students. Lori White and Steve Lopes both said that no changes would be made without student consent. They also made similar statements before the students were forced out of their 50 yard line seats for football.

I thought that these two had the power to enforce the integrity of the student/faculty relationship, and not let money walk all over it and their word.

Did anyone learn from last year's football ticket disaster, when only one year's worth of data was used to show that there would be no problem in reducing the student section? Then come football season we find out that students were cattle herded and many students were not allowed into the game. It took thousands of outraged letters and Sample himself to get the expected seats available for students. OF COURSE THEY DIDN'T LEARN. Now athletics plan to use one year of basketball numbers to reduce the student section in exactly the same manner!??! GET A CLUE and don't perform the same stupid human trick two years in a row!

Jason - I read this as additional student seats on the first level to provide better seating for more students attending games. The athletic department and administration both place a high importance on students attending USC athletic events.

In that case, sounds great!
