About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

Scott, in light of your absurd philosophy on AP poll voting ("for picking the No. 1 team, difficulty of schedule is more important because you are trying to pick the team with the best chance of reaching the national championship"), have you considered giving up your AP vote in favor someone who won't reward teams with easier schedules, and instead just vote for the better team?
The Picture(s) of the Day you've been posting are great. Where can I get ahold of copies?
I'm not sure if this is too off topic, but what do you think of Keyshawn Johnson's career?
Pros: He's only the 16th player to 800 catches, has a SuperBowl ring and more all-purpose TD's than Michael Irvin and Lynn Swann.
Cons: He was never a "playmaker" and has a mouth that overshadows his game.
John Stallworth was never more than a #2 option and he made the Hall of Fame. Does Key have a shot?
Since you've started covering Trojan football, who do you consider to be the top 10 players on the team during that time frame? Surely this will open up some debate, so answer carefully. Use whatever measurables you feel are appropriate.
If Sanchez beats out Mustain in the spring of '08, what are the chances Mustain leaves for Tulsa? 100%?
Scott,
At the alumni dinner at the Ronald Reagan Library, Pete was very high on Stafon Johnson. He said that Stafon was at a huge disadvantage coming into SC last year because he was never really 100% healthy, but that he believed Stafon will develop into an incredible talent. I love Pete...he is a real personable and classy guy and always knows how to work a room...but was Pete blowing smoke up our ass or does SC’s coaching staff really expect to see Stafon become a special player... at USC?
It is kind of hard to imagine Johnson cracking the rotation this year when you have CJ, Chauncey, Bradford, Moody, Hershel Dennis, and Desmond Reed returning and young studs like Joe McKnight, Marc Tyler and Broderick Green coming in.
And for all of the MS supporters/MM haters it will comfort you to know that Pete said that “Sanchez was really pushing Booty for the starting job”...this year! So Scott, was Pete blowing smoke up our ass...again?
And when is your next appearance on the PMS show?
Thanks again!
Scott,
I have a question for you, why don't those Bruins (kings of LA) ever have trouble remaining academically eligible to play sports? 13-9
Scott, how many ucla fan can honestly say they wouldn't trade 13-9 for all of the recent accomplishments of the USC football program? All of them?
...you should ask Tab Perry...not Scott.
SW, is the CB position settled and is there any concerns with a possible lack of depth?
Be sure to also ask ucla basketball player T.J. Cummings about staying eligible.
1. Will Barrett enter the supplemental draft, considering he will likely have good (40, bench, etc.) numbers?
2. Did Dennis get his 6th year approval?
3. When will NFL.com, ESPN.com, SI.com, etc. list the USC free agent signings ( under their "players"

Scott,
What are the chances of some of the running backs moving to defense. I read that Joe McKnight could be one of the best corners in the country but he's probably to special on offense. Also what about Broderick Green or Stafon moving to fullback?
Scott, everyone seems to be concentrating on the young talent and superstars on this Trojans squad...but who in your opinion is the most valuable -and- overlooked individual who's put their time in...ie this year's Oscar Lua

How big of an impact do you think Angelo Johnson will have on USC next year? I say pac 10 freshmen first team. I think he will have a big impact by letting Oj Mayo play the off guard and he will be able to chase the little guards around.

Thanks.

Should Mitch Mustain beat out Sanchez for the starting quarterback in 2008, as most people predict, what will happen to Sanchez? Will he drop to 3rd string quarterback then, behind both Mustain and Corp, or will he just transfer to another school?
Is Mustain the most decorated and successful incoming player that USC has ever had?
As far as I know, no other Trojan player has won every single national player of the year award, while accumulating such a remarkable record as a starting quarterback (dating back to junior high school).

Ridiculous statement:
Compare Arkansas HS FB VS the state of California HS FB-end of the story.
Scott,
how would you rate these factors in "keeping" a kid at a school...
Playing time,
Quality of coaching staff,
Quality of other players on the team,
National visibility of the school/program, Training facilities,
Playing facilities,
Quality of opponents,
Alumni in the pros,
Quality/standing of academic programs,
Team's record,
Other factors (???).
Scott, is info on Marquis simmons comming to SC. So, what is your opinion on this kid?
Who do you think will win out the contest between Sanchez and Mitch? Your personal opinion. Both kid are studs, is this a good thing for SC? Would a prospective QB think twice about commiting to SC, since even after waiting for 3 years to play, a Blue chip player like Sanchez or Musgrave might not start?
Do you think that Taylor Mays given the fact that his amazing speed has recently gone public would get any consideration for offense?
My thought is no since they allowed CJ Gable and him to share the number 2.
Scott:
Is Jamere Holland on a Track scholarship? What are the scholarship limits on that team?
What rules prevent a school from putting half the football team on track or baseball, etc., scholarships to expand the football team?
1. Do you think it was a mistake for Nick Young and/or Gabe Pruit to turn pro?
2. Where do you think each will go in the NBA draft?
3. Who will be the starting five and key reserves for next year's USC hoops squad?
Thanks.
Scott:
I understand that Alan Bradford was primarily recruited out of high school as one of the most sought linebackers in the nation. Is there any chance the Trojan coaching staff would consider moving him back to that position?
The Trojan coaches have had much success over the last three years in recruiting athletes who play speed positions (wideout or defensive secondary). What are they attempting to do different to recruit more offensive linemen this year?
What big name out-of-state recruits do you foresee committing to SC in 2008?
Thanks.
If JD Booty gets hurt how ready is Mark Sanchez to play in a game and lead this team to victory? He clearly did not play enough last year and he is 1 snap away from being out there.
What happens if our MLB get hurt? Will it be on Luther Brown, Thomas Williams, or the new freshman kid?
1. Matt Barkley (2009 sophmore QB) was offered a scholarship, thoughts?
2. AC Milan wins it, thoughts?
3. All the incoming freshman doing well for enrolling?
4. Will you be at the summer camps?
Any truth to the rumors that Nike has been pushing to have a 3rd alternate gold jersey or their other ugly style jerseys that Florida and Va Tech wear from time to time?
Okay I think that it is great that he is adding yet another tool to the arms race, but is he going to play?? He has not used a red shirt yet so he could still sit out another year to red shirt, but I do not think he would want to do that. Also, for the sake of the argument, assume it is Sanchez's job to lose in '08, much like Booty last year.
2007 - Booty (sr*), Sanchez (soph*), Corp (fresh) (redshirt* I assume), Mustain sits out (soph) year for transfer
2008 - Sanchez (jr*), Mustain (soph*) either backs up Sanchez or red shirts (assume he redshirts and doesnt steal the job), Corp (fr*)
2009 - Sanchez (sr*), Mustain (jr*), Corp (Soph*)
Mustain will start for one year in 2010!!! It doesnt make sense for him to leave a school where he was not playing, sit out a year, and then maybe or maybe not play for 3 years.
I am glad to have him, but the quarterback position is not the runningback where you can get 4 guys into a game.
So what happens if he doesn't beat out Sanchez?
Even crazier, what happens if Mustain beats Sanchez?
Scott -
Can you better explain what the football improvements are going to be. I know that the school has the money to start building but will not break ground until Galen is paid off.
My question is, what are the facilites going to be, and where are they going to be? As well, is Heritage Hall going to be worked on at the same time?
Thanks!

It should answer most of your questions.
Is Mustain's enrollment at USC the most high profile transfer in the history of college sports? I don't recall ever seeing so much media coverage before for a player, of any sport, transferring to another university.
