Here's answers to many of the open forum questions:

Defensive back Cary Harris ran a 4.3 in the 40.

Mike Williams is in the best shape I've seen him since he left USC and he is motivated to play for the Raiders, so we might actually see him crack the lineup.

This summer, the players usually do 7-on-7 workouts, either at 7 a.m. or 3 p.m., if you are hard up for football.

The 40 times are always optimistic. I don’t endorse them, I just report them.

Khaled Holmes will probably go to USC over Michigan and several other schools. I would not anticipate a commitment soon, however.

My 40 time is 4.1 (hand-timed).

USC usually does not mount huge Heisman campaigns, unless you consider the Matt-Reggie TV internet video reports from a couple years ago or the Matt Leinart blog that was not written by Matt Leinart. But those things have little impact on the voters.

Ryan Powdrell was told by the compliance office he could not apply for a sixth year because you usually need to miss two years due to an injury. He signed as a free agent with Green Bay.

Michael Coleman received his release. It’s too soon to say who will switch positions. The coaches have big plans for Stanley Havili, so his health will be a major concern.

The freshman report in early August, however Pete Carroll tries to get them to attend summer school, so a lot will arrive on campus a lot sooner so they can attend summer workouts.

It’s way too soon to predict who will redshirt although offensive linemen usually do.

The new football facility will probably not begin construction until all money for the Galen Center is raised. I’m told the money for the football facility is already raised but it’s policy not to start a project until you pay off the previous project.

Mitch Mustain will not be officially admitted until he completes classes at Arkansas this month.

Kyle Williams, Chris McFoy and Ryan Powdrell signed standard free agent contracts, which pay a certain amount while you practice with the team but do not guarantee a salary for the upcoming season until you actually make the team.

Tom Malone is trying to make an NFL team but it’s hard to get second chances and he was hampered by injury his senior year at USC.

There are whispers that some USC players are being hurt in the draft because of the poor work habits of some recent draft picks, like Manuel Wright, who were eventually cut or traded.

Not sure if any changes to parking at Coliseum, but USC continues to talk to the commission about taking over operation of the facility.

Chris McFoy has a decent shot to make the Raiders, or at least the practice squad, because he knows the offense better than anyone else after five years at USC.

Mitch Mustain believes he will win the starting job in 2008, which is why he transferred.

There is no chance for an on-campus football stadium, no money and nowhere to put it.

Idaho should not harm USC’s BCS chances because of the rest of the schedule is pretty strong. It would hurt more if Notre Dame is as bad as some people think they might be, because the Irish are usually a strong non-conference opponent.

So far, players are grumbling a little bit about playing Thanksgiving but the flip side is they get Thanksgiving weekend off.

USC is accepting early verbals because they don’t want to lose recruits to other schools and everyone seems to be offering and taking verbals earlier this year.

CJ Gable and Emmanuel Moody contributed about as much as should be expected for freshmen not named Reggie Bush or LenDale White. Stafon Johnson did not get a chance to play, which was a coaches’ decision.

Patrick Turner should be the No. 1 wide receiver, because he was the top receiver in spring practices.

Jimmy Clausen was held back a year for athletic purposes and turned 19 during his senior year at Oaks Christian.

Player eligibility will be determined this summer.

Sarkisian took Kiffin to the Raiders interview because he wanted to bring him in as offensive coordinator. When he turned down the job, Al Davis went for the next-best thing (in his opinion) and hired Kiffin.

USC’s chances of going undefeated are unlikely given the difficulty of the road schedule. This road schedule nearly did the Trojans in during Matt Leinart-Reggie Bush's final season and they did not play Nebraska.

I don't believe the Trojans will lose a home game next year.

The potential speed bump is back-to-back road games at Cal and Arizona State, followed by the regular-season finale with UCLA.

Everson Griffen and Joe McKnight are the two freshmen expected to play a lot next season.

It remains to be seen if USC will ever win a national title without Norm Chow. It's easy to say the Trojans might have won 2 more titles if they kept Chow.

Some type of ceremony honoring Mario Danelo is being planned.

The football poster is designed by the marketing dept. They went for a unique shape this year after last year's underwhelming ``Encore'' poster.

Chris Galippo will start off on special teams and quickly be the No. 2 middle linebacker.

Darnell Bing is healthy and ready to play for the Raiders.

As far as recruiting, USC had a chance to offer offensive lineman Max Tuioti-Mariner of Corona during spring practices when he visited, but waited. Pete Carroll is focused on out of state recruiting this week.

USC times are always faster than NFL times. If nothing else, it raises morale!

As always, thanks for the updates, Scott! But making the claim that "It remains to be seen if USC will ever win a national title without Norm Chow" is just a truism. It remained to be seen if they'd ever win another Rose Bowl without Chow...until they did. It remains to be seen if there will be a football season this fall - until it actually happens. If you're trying to throw down the gauntlet and "predict" that the current Carroll regime will not win another title because they don't have Chow - that would be something. But for a couple of tipped passes and SC was ready to run past the Buckeyes in January like Florida did. And last year was a rebuilding year in my humble opinion. With a better defense, an experienced QB, and somewhat raw yet talented receivers, it's tough to bet too many chips against this year's Trojans team I would suggest. With or without Chow. I like Sark. I expect good things from the man.

Call me a nit-picker, but wouldn't it be more accurate to say "if Chow stayed"? Carroll didn't fire him, after all.

Thanks for answering all 3 of my questions Scott. I agree that USC's road schedule is brutal next season but I think the thing that helps them get through it is the fact that they will be relying on defense and not offense to carry the team the way they did in 2005.

I don't understand why you said that Stafon Johnson not playing was a coaches decision. Didn't you say at the beginning of spring that he had a bad shoulder last season? Sounds like a medical problem to me. Are you just trying to stir the pot again?

Yep another great update thanks scott!!

Galippo #2? Luther Brown??? Is he injured and will not play this year?

Only disagree on 1 point: The road schedule is hard but we always win those games...remember the last couple of games we lost have been "at home" (If you count the Rose Bowl as home which I do)

I would say the losses we might get would not be on the road, they would be at home or at least in the Pac 10, like last year. I am not too worried about Idaho and Notre Lame this year, Nebraska is OK but beatable. Even next year, Ohio St. is at home...

MM is that confident he will beat out Sanchez? wow...So what happens to Sanchez? #1 QB in the country in his class and he sits for 4 years at USC and hopes to get drafted like Matt Cassel or Brandon Hance? I doubt that...if MM wins out the starting job, I bet MS is out the door within 1 month...and probably in a PO'd mood too since, being a Junior then, he will prob. have to transfer to a I-AA school or lose another year of PT..Boy there's some ammunition for UCLA recruiters..I kinda wish we would of just stuck with MS.

Well would of should of could of...anyway keep the info coming Scott!

I am not as much on the Norm Chow bandwagon..he is great don't get me wrong. But we lost the Rose Bowl vs. Texas because Lendale could not get 1 yard on 4th down vs. the Texas D. Hey, if we can't get 1 friggin' yard do we deserve to win?

And they should of punted on that play anyway..if they would of punted, Texas wouldn't of had time to score starting from it's 10 or 20 yard line..That was PC's decision to go for it. He also blew it this year vs. OSU...if he would of kicked a FG in the early 4th Quarter instead of going for it on 4th down and not making it..we would of won and been in the NC game. Again, irrelevant to who is OC.

Norm might of helped a little last year vs. UCLA and OSU but the bottom line is we lost those games because of our own mistakes (CW'fumbles etc.) and great play by the other teams. Not what our OC called.

I watched MW here on the Lions he didn't try hard all the time. But hey, if I was on the Lions I wouldn't try much either...haha. He will be awesome in Oakland.

I don't care if Mustain is here or not, i think Sanchez will win the job.

Of course Mustain thinks he can win the job, every player should think they can win a job. I don't Pete needs to worry about what UCLA is telling recruits, it won't help.

A school might never win a NC title. USC went 25 years without one.

The combination of PC-NC seemed hard to beat. So it does remain to be seen.

White had more than a yard to make. When he was tackled he funbled a yard back. Regardless, it was not about making a yard. Texas guessed the play and sold out. It was not the play NC calls. The QB had come back to make this play; how can ball not be in his hands. Against UCLA staff froxe like deer in headlights.

You only won national championship with Norm Chow! And, that will be handed over to Oklahoma soon!

Cheat on!

Pete Carroll lost to the biggest choke in College Football (Mack Brown) so he is now the biggest choke!! Bring back Larry Smith!!

7-on-7s? Sound like more illegal practices!! Cheat on!

Bill is back. To comment on your posts.

The AP has been picking national champs longer than the BCS. And since the NCAA does not sanction a national champion...the AP National title is just as valid. Hence a national title.

No, choking is losing to Wyoming in a bowl game...or what you did against Notre Dame this year...or Florida State...or getting spanked by a crappy Arizona team when u had a chance to play USC for a berth in the Rose Bowl.

And 7-7 actually sounds like the Bruins record last season.

Go Suckla!

It is odd that a team that hasn't played in a meaningful football game in a long time (UCLA) would have anything to say about choking. Hmmm...Lloyd Carr must think Pete is a choke, Kirk Ferentz must think so too...and Bob Stoops. Let's not forget that Mack Brown had the freak of nature Vince Young...so before you lob ignorant comments about Pete and USC...take a good look in the mirror...and revel in 13-9, cause that is all you got.

It makes no sense to grace little Bills posts with a response. Clearly we are not dealing with an individual who has the capability of having an intelligent conversation nor does he care what we say. He will continue to post garbage that has no basis in fact and is only the ramblings of a pathetic and sad little person.

Scott, thanks for answering so many questions again.

You can't win an arguement with an idiot (Bill), he will drag you down to his level and beat you with his experience.

USC1966:
Marvelous English:
"Would of should of could of", the stupid arrogant moron have never heard of would have, should have or could have. The pathetic part of his butchered English makes you wonder what the hell learned at USC or should I ask:
grammar school?
Viva USC1966, BS...

Bill is officially the autistic savant of Scott's blog. Everytime any USC fan tries to have a serious discussion on anything in pops Bill with his wild speculation, multiple consecutive posts and his ridiculous "Cheat On!" slogan...anywho

1966: Not sure if I agree with you about the "we always win those (road) games" observation. USC has not lost any home games since early 2001 (really ridiculous if you consider we are now in 2007!). All the regular losses since have been on the road: Cal, OSU and UCLA. And until the Bruins they were all before November.

Yes Bill, I admit that the Bruins won fair and square by a score of 13-9 ...now will you please leave us alone and in peace?

P.S. Paris Hilton was just sentenced to 35 days in prison. Maybe there is a God after all.

Seriously, someone tell me if Door Prize is intentionally using bad grammar to criticize 1966's grammar.

"The stupid arrogant moron have never heard . . . " Should be: "The stupid, (COMMA) arrogant moron HAS never heard . . . ."

"The pathetic part of his butchered English makes you wonder what the hell learned at USC"

Just the pathetic part of his butchered English? Which part is that? Also, it should read, "what the hell HE learned at USC."

I'm not even touching the improper use of colons. Stop correcting grammar, Door Prize. You aren't qualified.

Back Door Prize,

If you're going to correct someone's grammar, take a look in the mirror: yours should be impeccable. It's like, "Ooh, ooh, he made a grammatical mistake!" and hastes to point it out without checking his own. You're a genius, Back Door.

Thanks for the copious answers, Wolfie. Keep it up.

patty o - comin' in strong again.. love your retorts.

uscny - i would add bitter and angry to describe bill.

everyone - i thought we agreed not to correct grammar.

Dear Bill,

GO F--- YOURSELF!

Pablo-p---ejo you sold yourself to these hypocrites, what else is new? 66-19 keep playing Clinton, boy...
Trojan National I checked my own. You funny idiotic "lawyers" don't want to accept that USC1966 messed-up and you are trying to cover it up with your normal BS. It is sad that there is NOT anyone of you man enough to accept 66 mistakes.

Door prize WTF are you talking about?

Whatever you are smoking can I buy some?

66 watch your mouth, boy, OK? I don't mess with drugs, obviously you do...
