Picture Of The Day

USC tailback Rod McNeil sweeps 14 yards for a touchdown against Oregon State at the Coliseum during the Trojans' 12-0 season in 1972 (courtesy UCLA Library).
This was generally considered the best team in the history of USC football before the 2004 team made its pitch.

I'm just curious, but can anyone identify the Trojan on the ground in the shot. I think that might be one A.D., Anthony Davis?

The guy on the ground almost looks like Sam Cunningham to me. I dont think Rod and A.D. lined up in the same backfield too often as both of them were tailbacks.

72 team was named by CBS as greatest team of all time Mke Rae had just one year as QB and made the best of it. Relating them to their respective season it remains best USC team. It's defense was a turnover machine, the Oline was one of greatest, McNeil, Davis and Sam Bam. Garrison, Swann, Young and J.k. for receivers. If J.K. played in this decade with star qb's he own the Trojan record book. For one reason he would play 4 yrs.
In this off time putting up old photos is a great idea.

Mr. McNeil is a great guy. I played ball with his son and he was always around the program giving his support. Great photo.

I am going to agree with TrojanEncore that it's not AD because they didn't line up together. But it sure looks like AD. My guess is that it is the Fullback Manfred Moore.
