Player Opinion

A group of veteran USC players went out to dinner a few nights ago and were asked who would start at tailback this season. Their answer: Hershel Dennis.
That's a testament to Dennis' strong spring practice and also illustrates that players are usually loyal to those in their own peer group.

No suprise here, Patch can provide leadership at TB missing last year.

Further, danger of so many TB's is different players rally to peers.

But PC has said every position is up for battle every year. Unless some change in fall, if Dennis does not start PC's words are hypicritical.

My guess is he does not start, but does rotate and then wins starting roll.

That's good to hear that Hershel has the backing of his teammates, now lets see if he has the backing of the NCAA. Hershel will definitely provide senior leadship, among the stable of young RB's (something that Chauncey should learn from).

I hate to be a downer but at this point, HD starting is fine with me. Our running game was so bad last year, anything has to be an improvement. I haven't seen Hershel run in years but I remember he was pretty good back then.

I have never been able to figure out why, with a line that had Byers Radovich and baker, and RB's like Washington and Moody, our running game was non existent. Other teams' defense didn't even bother with it...

I guess put that one up there with the Loch Ness monster and the Yeti

Bill, adding two exclamation marks after everything you say does not imbue your words with wit or humor...just FYI.

66, You may need to ask the new Raiders head coach your question about last years running game.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
