Wanted Man
Former fullback Jody Adewale was asked again this week consider returning to the team next season.
We've lost track of how many times Adewale was asked to return but Michael Coleman's departure makes him more relevant.
Adewale said he is undecided.

Comments
Who can really blame them? It's the one glaring weak spot on the team depth-wise and we all saw the effect the lack of a FB had on the offense last season. If they can't get Adewale back don't be surprised to see a couple freshmen playing out of position there next year.

You reap what you sow. It was not cool to ask a senior who has worked hard to give up scholi and then crawl back when "oops."
But Jody, forget pride, and do what you want. Playing for NC is not a bad senior year choice. You will be a crowd favorite.
stafon...fullback gets run this year. Think about it.

Whatever the number is, I'm sure it's much less than the number of times you told us that Mitch Mustain had not committed publicly to USC yet.

I didn't know that Adewale was asked to give up his scholorship. I was under the impression that he voluntarily gave up football to concentrate on his degree and then grad school. Was I misinformed?

It's amazing and confusing to me how we can recruit and have 10 (well 9 now)taibacks and to have to beg for a guy who we ask to give up his scholie to come back.
What in the world do you need with that many Tailbacks. At some point 1 or 2 of them will have to move over to fullback to back up Havili.
I just believe at some point regardless of how attractive it looks to grab another great tailback. You have to tell yourself that only so many can play that position at a time and I have to look to fill other dire needs.

Why don't we just put Lo-Jack in at FB? He could probably punch some decent sized holes in the D-Line. Not to mention probably knocking 3-4 opponents out of the game each week.

For an in-depth article on Jody Adewale, see this article from 12/06. It sheds some light on his home life. PC recognized his devotion to his family and his potential, and from what I have heard gave him a grad assist. position so he could persue his graduate degree. He was asked to give up his on-field scholie, but is being taken care of in other ways. Even with the injuries to Powdrell, Hancock, and Havili last year, Adewale was still somewhat buried down the depth chart behind Brittingham and Williams, and realized he was never going to get playing time at SC.

Do college programs even recruit "true" fullbacks out of HS? It seems to me that fullbacks are taken from the ranks of bigger (and often slower) tailbacks. Or from quick linebackers with good hands.
Could this be a collegiate response to the NFL's disregard to the fullback position? How many college fullbacks were taken in the draft this year? When were they taken?
Despite the position's value (ask LT about L. Neal), the NFL and, in turn, the NCAA continues to take these players for granted.
For example, during my years at USC, I remember a couple of my football player friends remarking how much they missed Marvin Powell III's contributions at fullback. They hadn't realized how important he was to the success of the program (which wasn't much using today's standards).
Hopefully, we'll learn from our problems at FB last year and respect the players at that position. PC's praise for Havili's performance at spring practice is a good start.
