Scott:

What are the rules for recruiting? How often can the coaches contact a recruit, and in how many different formats?

How many schools can a recruit "officially visit"? And what are the NCAA rules for those "official visits"?

Scott,

Two questions:
1. Will both USC and UCLA ever be allowed to wear home uniforms in the same game again?
2. Is USC doing anything to push for legislation against agents? Seems to me that the best defense might be an offense. Also, most schools don't have the problems of being in the middle of agent central...Los Angeles.

Thanks!

Hey Scott, thanks again for taking the time to answer our questions.

I haven't seen Ronald Johnson in any of the workout photos, when is he expected to arrive at 'SC?

Scott,

What are the chances that Pinkard will see action at CB this season? With Mays and Ellison at safety, it seems logical to get Pinkard on the field given his prior experience at CB.

There must be SOME new news on the Reggie Bush story. Can we expect some closure before the season starts? Ends?

How do you pronounce Chilo Rachal?

Highly touted incoming freshman recruit, Marc Tyler, has gone on record to say that he wouldn't mind playing in the secondary if he can't crack the starting rotation at running back. He went on to say that many scouts project him as a safety in the NFL. Is there any thought among those in the SC coaching staff about moving him to that position?

Second, what other players do you foresee being switched given the glutony of talent at certain positions (i.e. running back, linebacker)?

As for Jacksonsf's question, I do recall that USC filed a civil lawsuit several years back against an agent who had inappropriate contact with a USC football player (Shawn Walters, perhaps???). USC sued for interfering with its contract with the student-athlete. I believe the agent agreed to pay a six-figure settlement. Scott, what do you recall about this incident?

Also, how bad is McKnight's injury as you reported today? Sprain? Tear? Any danger of him missing training camp in the fall?

Thanks. I appreciate this open forum.

Scott,

I was a big Norm CHow fan, one only needs to look at what he has done with Vince Young to see his genius. Strongly beleive SC would have won 2 nationl Championships had he stayed, not sure if they can win one without him. 3 Questions........... 1) why did Chow really leave 2) What as Sark's relationship with CHow and as a former QB for Chow, how will his playcalling and philosophy be same/different? 3)Can SC win a national championship without chow in your opinion.

Do you think SC pulled a fast one on Weiss with regards to Jimmy Clausen? It looks like SC knew Jimmy was damaged goods, but didn't want Weiss to find out. Thus, SC recruited Jimmy C but not as strongly as they usually recruit big time players.

Mitch Mustain obviously came to USC with the intent and belief that he will start in 2008. So if that, in fact, does come to fruition, as many people predict, what will Sanchez do? Will Sanchez transfer? What are his options in the scenario that Mustain will start?

Thanks in advance for all you do, Scott.

Scott:

How come you've made no mention of the fact that the SC athletic department website has officially changed Mitch Mustain's jersey number to 16 for the 2007 season? Does that mean the coaches have no faith in Michael McDonald winning the Heisman trophy this year and having his number retired?!!!

Is Jeff Byers finally healthy enough to reach his potential?? How do you project the o-line doing this year?

1. Can you give us some clues of who may have problems with the Clearinghouse folks?

2. What position changes do you see having next fall? At RB to FB for example or to CB/Safety.

13-9

I heard there were anywhere from 13 to 9 incoming players that won't make it through admissions

I went to the Trojan Club of Orange County dinner with Pete Carroll a couple of weeks ago and when Pete was asked a question about Mitch Mustain, he replied that "he is the best quarterback on the scout team this year and we expect even more from him next year."

He also said that Sanchez would be expected to compete for the starting job this year against Booty in fall camp.

What do you make about Pete's comments? It seems that Pete contradicts himself about Booty having secured the starting job for this year, but appears to be far higher on Mustain than Sanchez. So what's the rationale behind Pete's comments to a room full of people?

Scott,
I will give you a break and field the 1st question....... Rules??HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....Rules??HAHAHAHAHAHA
Your friend,
pom pom pete carroll

Young and Pruit credit Floyd for making them what they are. Do you think they even considered they might give back a NC to USC by staying?

What is caliber of freshman other Mayo. How certain is it he leaves after one year,

SW, play Coach for a second. Who do you start at FB and who do think Coach Pete will name as the starter? Great job on the open forum.

In most of the college magazines, USC will only play three top 25 teams: Cal, UCLA and Nebraska. Yet there schedule is often mentioned as "tough" due to the "tough" road schedule. Why is it considered tough since only Nebraska and Cal are top 25 teams that we play on the road,

Would you explain the difference between a recruit's "official" versus "unofficial" visit to a school and why this difference is important? For example, is there a limit on the number
of official visits a recruit can take?

what kind of participation does it take to earn a letter for SC football, it has been posted that SC returns 79 lettermen.. how is that possible

Scott,
I want your honest opinion, UCLA's has a lot of 4 star commits what do you make of it, I think they are overrated.

2)Why is this Simmons kid rated only 3 stars.

Who is the funniest current or former USC football player you have covered? And can you relate a funny story regarding that player?

A lot of the people who root for teams in the Pac 10 think we have some lousy bowl alliances. They are especially upset that the Pac 10 only has one new years day bowl. The Pac 10 says that an issue is that there are prohibitions against 2 P10 teams playing at the same time. Many of us think that Tom Hansen is to blame for the bowl set up and other problems the conference has - poor TV contracts, lousy officiating. What is your feeling about the P10 office - especially Hanson, and what is the feeling of the people down at HH.

Thanks Scott

Scott,

Exactly how "raw" is Davon Jefferson?

Is he going to be One and Done or will he be here a couple of years? Can he be a big-time player immediately?

Thank you.

Scott,

Is the outside of the Galen Center finished or did the athletic department skimp on putting up the white tiles (e.g. new parking structures) around the arena?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Scott; Thanx again for having this open forum, and for answering my questions. My queries this week are: 1. In general, how do the SC coaches feel recruiting is going so far this year? I note UCLA has 18 committs so far and we have only 7. It is interesting to note the difference in * ratings between rivals.com and scout.com. I am wondering if the coaches feel we may have waited too long to make offers to at least some, or a few, of the bruin recruits. and 2. It is obvious that you read the comments to your forum answers. Do you also read the comments to all of your postings? Thanx much for keeping us football junkies happy!

Please comment on how you think Bradford,Spicer and Galippo will be used this upcoming season.

Scott, since LA is the Spanish speaking capitol of the world, is cow turd pronounced miguelito or ucla?

Actually, irish4USC, 'ucla' is the noun form of 'cow turd.' 'miguelito' is spanish for 'one who eats cow turd.'

Scott, It is unreal to me that Maurice Simmons is only a 3 star on rivals. Scout.com, espn.com, cstv.com and basically every other service has him as an elite player with possible 5 star on scout. At the scout combine he ran a 4.41 and at usc this past saturday he had a 36 inch verticle. add a ridiculous hi-lite reel with 180 tackles and I think rivals dropped the ball on this one?

Scott,
This forum is great and I see the questions keep growing every week. I hope your summer is still restfull...
Here's my question (someone asked a similar question about recruiting):
My concern is that we seem to have several openings for next year (one website lists from 27-30 new scholarships).
How many scholarships do we have available, and based on that number, do you think we have a base of recruits large enough to get quality players for every scholarship?

Also, never mind the comments of the cow-turd eating cross-town rivals. Their blog is too boring for them to follow their own team :)

Keep up the great work Scott!
Fight On!

Hi Scott: This is not a new question since I have already asked 2 about 5 or so questions above-but rather a clarification. In my first question, I mentioned ucla has 18 committs to our 7, but when you add in our 3 good transfers {even tho they have to wait until'08,], it looks a lot better. Still, the basic question remains, are we happy with '07 recruiting, and did the bruins take anyone away from us that we really wanted by their early all-out push---I am thinking, too, that since we are light on '09 scholarships to give out{ like ucla was last year} that maybe we are being very conservative. Of course by our '07 recruiting, I mean for the class of '08 coming in 9/08
Thanx again Scott, for giving of your time, and of yourself!!!!!!!!!!

If USC filed lawsuits against agents, the team would turn into Cal State Northridge!!

I have to apologize for ever saying that none of the USC football players ever graduate. I saw a number of them the other day at the LA Trade Tech graduation. Gotta love Spanish 3!
