Quote Of The Week

Here's Matt Leinart after signing with talent agency CSMG after he fired CAA because he was jealous of the endorsements garnered by former teammate Reggie Bush. CSMG also represents Dwayne Wade and Donovan McNabb.
''Once the Cardinals reach the level of success we're shooting for, I am certain the folks at CSMG will help me be seen as valuable part of the community and great role models like Dwyane and Donovan,'' Leinart said.
I wonder if Dwayne or Donovan charged the public $20 to attend a birthday party, fired their agent and talent agency within a year of turning pro and indirectly embroiled a former teammate/roommate in an NCAA investigation involving their luxury penthouse apartment?

I'm disappointed in Matt. He's such a hollywood drama queen. He should follow the example of Carson Palmer who's been a class act ever since he graduated.

Oh give me a break. Leinart is the king. The apartment 'scandal' was total bullshit from the jump, the dude gave up about ten million bucks to come back and play his final year of college. And, I mean, no offense, but Carson's not exactly the looker that Leinart is. Dude's a good looking star athlete from Southern California-I don't understand the hate that he's a bit of a pimp around hollywood. Are USC fans a bunch of Puritans now or something?

You are right matthew. Matt is one pretty good lookin dude.

Hard to believe people bag on the best QB in USC history.

You and Petros are such petty bitches when it comes to Matt and Reggie. I don't get it.

Petros is particularly bad because he comes across as just plain jealous of their success. It would be amusing if it weren't so pathetic. Your USC team sucked Petros that is why you couldn't big-time anyone. Get over it.

Matt Leinart was the most popular Heisman winner in the past 30 years. He's good looking, was located in the media capital of the US and had Hollywood starlets falling at his feet. So what if he charged $20 to get into his birthday party. that's what happens in Hollywood.

Oh and I'm sure he entrapped Dwayne and endangered the team with the apartment scandal on purpose. Come on already...Bitter much?

Oh and Ren Lopez...Don't compare Carson to Matt. There is no comparison.

With Matt, USC played for 3 straight NCs (winning 2 and losing the third in the last 15 seconds), won 2 Heisman trophies and won 30+ games in a row.

If it hadn't been for Carson's 5th (Heisman) year he would have gone down as one of the biggest USC QB busts of all time. Up till the 2002-03 season all he had done of merit was throw more INTs than TDs. He was a big time underachiever.

So of course he's humbler than Matt. You would be too.

Is there some impulse where you have to act like a d-bag every now and then just to feel good about the world? The info you've been providing lately has been insightful and professional...and then you relapse and go into "Petros and I bash on Leinart" mode even though the world has passed you by on this issue a long time ago. Let me guess, you'll rip on Reggie next?

It's all true! I was there when the QB hatched his sinsister plan to bring USC football to it's knees!

He was sitting there in his top hat and tails twirling his pointy mustache between his fingers and said "I'm going to pay more rent than DJ" and let out the same sinister laugh he gives when searching for stoplights to run and stealing puppies to bag and throw in the river.

MAT LEINART IS E-VIL!

In regards to Scott's consistent biased reports about Leinart: I think Matt must have said "no" when Scott asked for a date.

matthew:

Actually, Leinart did not "give up about ten million bucks to come back and play his final year of college."

He knew that he was going to have surgery on his arm following his Heisman season and was told by NFL general managers that they would not take the risk on him after surgery, and that he was not going to be a first round draft pick as an unknown post-operative prospect.

So he came back for another year purely for financial reasons; not some selfless dedication to USC.

Wow - check out Wanger overstating facts for dramatic effect.

Matt did have surgery before his last season - but you make it sound like he had his arm re-attached. He had MINOR outpatient surgery to address tendonitis in his left (throwing) elbow in late January of 2005, which sidelined him for 2005's spring practice.

It wasn't a major surgery and he would have still gone in the 1st round (I don't know where you got your no 1st round for Matt info from). He probably had no shot at #1 though.

Did this knowledge have something to do with him coming back? Yes. But to state that he came back - and risked ending his career solely for financial reasons is just plain wrong. If he didn't want to play at USC he wouldn't have come back. He thought he could improve his standing in the draft, wanted to try to make college history and wanted to spend one more year in college (something I wish I had done sometimes). Who could blame him - I mean he did just have to take 1 ballroom class.

Could you imagine how crazy fun that last year must have been for him??

Hollywood (aka USC's all-time leader in career touchdown passes and completion percentage) can do whatever he wants!

How quickly we forget that Leinart finished his college career at USC going 807/1245 (64.8%) for 10,693 yards and 99 touchdowns...not to mention winning the Heisman and going 37-2 as a starter and playing in 3 BCS Bowl Games...and winning 2 National Championships.

He is a pimp for a reason!

Top 3 Scott Wolf Stories on Matt Leinart for Today, June 20, 2007

1. BREAKING HARD!!!! Matt Leinart not yet cleared in disappearance of pregnant mother.

2. Matt makes 260x what I make, despite the fact that I got a b+ in Ballroom Dance 203, and Matt only got a b.

3. Matt gets Alyssa Milano and Paris Hilton while the best I've ever done is Scott Ostler.

Scott - we know you hate him. Let it go, already. This is so pathetic. You and Petros can go and lunch at Brent's Deli and bitch all day long about Matt and Reggie and how much better your friends are. Leave us out of it already.

Carson has more next level talent than Matt and has already achieved elite status in the NFL, yet he is still a humble guy.

His underachieving middle 3 years as USC were a product of Hacket and a new offensive scheme the in Carrol year 1.

Great work as usual Scott. Thank you for all of your hard work!

For those that complain about Scott's style - you are free not to read this blog if it upsets you so much. Scott has acheived the success and access that he has because of his unique style. He is not going to change anytime soon.

Just a petty post Wolf. Petty indeed. I think if you were to squeeze this post of its juice and inspect the contents, you would find 10% content and 90% jealous insignificance.

"he fired CAA because he was jealous of the endorsements garnered by former teammate Reggie Bush"

Where do you get this? Can this be backed up with any sort of facts or is this merely an assumption based on your close personal relationship with Matt? I agree with earlier posts that your recent stuff has been insightful and newsworthy, but this was just a classless act by, as an earlier poster said, a d-bag.

As football players go, Matt Leinart was the greatest football player in USC history. Reggie Bush was good but not better. Even with Bush, would USC have achieved as much with a different QB, say Booty, under center during that period? The year Bush won the Heisman, Leinart had better numbers than his previous Heisman season. Off the field? Whatever misgivings fans might have about $20 birthday parties pales in comparison to the risk Bush exposed the USC program to via San Diego 'Rentgate.' We are lucky to have witnessed such achievement. I had the opportunity to says 'Congratulations and thanks.' to Carson Palmer once. I hope to have the same opportunity to say the same to Matt Leinart one day.

You might have to give him 10 bucks first in order to have the right to congratulate him.
