Along The Line

We hear USC will sign six offensive line recruits this year. And we hear it might mean signing five offensive linemen and one defensive lineman who will switch to the other side.

... and what does this have to do with Mustain?

Come on 66-19... These are the people Mitch (I'm on a first name basis with him) will be buying lunch for and setting up with his sisters for the next 4 years. Years from now, when M (he'll be known by one initial before he's done) is evading the police on the 405 (due to a misunderstanding over a parking ticket), it will be one of these guys driving the white Prius.

Scott, does Mitch have a middle name?

I have always been of the belief that we will sign 6 OLineman.

Along with the four already commited, i think we will land a commit from Khaled Holmes, and then eventually take on Max Tuitoi-Mariner.

Scott,

How does this affect our chances to win the mythical "recruiting NC"?

I mean, to get to #1 you gotta pull in the top skill players in the country, the big names like Joe McKnight and Marc Tyler. (Tim Tebow, etc.)

Since we are using 8 or 9 scholarships at least on lineman (O and D) it's going to be hard to pass a Florida or LSU. Assuming we have the usual, about 18 scholarships available, that only leaves 10.

Does PC still think we can win? Or has he conceded this year to get the O-lineman?

To start things off, we will have closer to 23 scholarships available for the 2008 class, opposed to only 18 from last year.

With about nine of those going towards the Lines, and the fact that we will take no QB and only one (2 max)RBs, that still leaves about 12 schollies for the other positions like WR/TE, LB and the secondary.

Also, the fact that two of our OLine commits are 5-star players greatly helps our cause. Not to mention we already have a 5-star WR in DJ Shoemate.

From the way things are shaping i think UF and LSU fans have to worry about matching us, not the other way around.

This class should be a top 3.

Hey USC1966,

Your "mythical recruiting NC" method is flawed. The recruiting title is one depending on the caliber of high school players brought in (whether a 5* or 2*). Position doesn't matter. A 5* O-Lineman is viewed just the same as a 5* running back when this is calculated on such recruiting services such as rivals or scout. Sorry to burst your bubble, but your posts on the "Recruiting NC" were bugging the hell out of me.

*"one" = "won"

I think we have 25+ to give out, tho 25 is the max allowed unless they enter school in Jan. or grayshirt--but '09 is light so we may save some for then.

Not to steal Scott's Open Forum thunder, but I'm pretty sure Carroll doesn't get caught up in recruiting service rankings of the players he (or anyone else) signs.
