Always Thinking
Bryshon Nellum was the Gatorade National Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year, but this is USC, so what matters is if he will ever play football. The answer came last fall when Nellum signed a track letter-of-intent, which meant he would not be able to play his freshman year.
But USC coach Pete Carroll still looked into the matter this week to make sure, since he wouldn't mind seeing Nellum at wide receiver. Carroll said Tuesday he didn't think Nellum would be allowed to play this season under NCAA rules. But hey, it didn't hurt to ask.

Comments
Can he play in his soph yr? Guess so--does he want to play? Can he work out with team? Guess not. Let's tell him how much $$$$$$$$$ he can make in pro ball as a WR.

I am going to agree with Tire on this one..I am not sold on these "I run track AND play football" guys. They are not strong enough to play college football. Look at J. Holland. He has been hurt the whole time he has been at USC.
T. Patterson is fast, Ronald Johnson is fast, let's skip the Deion Sanders "just put him on the field because of his 4.29 speed" players and concentrate on winning the NC.

John Walker and William Buchanon both had great speed, size and continuously played football since high school. Nellum has great speed, decent size and has not been continously playing football since high school. John Walker and William Buchanon were top recruits out of high school. Buchanon was the San Diego player of the year. I don't even know if Nellum played football last year for Poly.
I remember when Bill Walsh signed Renaldo Nehemiah to play wideout. He just couldn't get it.
This game isn't 100% speed. It is about running proper routes, blocking, etc. Through years of practice, this stuff hopefully becomes second hand. While I think that Nellum is a fantastic athlete, I just wonder if he can make the transition to anything other than a backup. If Buchanon or Walker couldn't get it, how can Nellum?
Then again, the money is in Football and not in going to the Olympics. Then again, being a USC Grad with an Olympic Gold Medal will probably get you far in life.

Well you cant sell Nellums short in his track and field efforts. This kid won 4 Gold Medals in the Calif State Track and Field Championships. A fete unheard of. Some thought he might even sign as a Pro track star with NIKE right out of high school.
Top Track Athletes on the pro circuit can make a few million over there careers. So whos to say. There is no guarantee that he will get to the NFL.

Where's Miguelito when you need him?
If we ever needed his wit to detract from the fact that UCLA's WR coach was arrested on burglary charges it's now.
Don't let us down Miguelito. 13-9.

Well, if he's guilty, then he should be fired. The tragedy is really Eric's to be throwing away this opportunity.

USC 1966,
I can guarantee you that Miguelito and Reel Bruin are/have been here they just can't think up anything clever to say yet. Cause here's what they have as possible comebacks...
1. 13-9. The answer to all life's questions but not really applicable here.
2. What about OJ? Yes, they will likely mention the 10+ year old case involving an ex-USC player.
3. Eric Wright or some other players. Actually they might not try this one because Eric Wright was a bad apple in a group of 90 players (to be expected) and Eric Scott is a COACH!
