Big Freshmen On Campus

It's easy to say tailback Joe McKnight and guard O.J. Mayo are USC's most-talented newcomers in their sports. But let's look at some early indications beyond the hype.
On Monday, McKnight made a dazzling one-handed catch and later looked completely comfortable playing defensive back when players were having fun switching roles. It backs up what I heard from a coach familiar with McKnight's career who said he could be the Trojans' No. 1 cornerback if he played defense.
Later that night, Mayo played pickup games with his teammates and some college players Alex Stepheson of North Carolina, Joseph Taylor of Wyoming and Seketoure Henry of Nebraska. After the games finished, while everyone else left or rested, Mayo stayed on the court and methodically performed shooting drills until the gym closed.

If only we could clone him!

BOTH, I meant!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, does anyone know if Everson Griffen is on campus? Its great to have Reggie Bush (err umm) I mean Joe McKnight on campus, but how the big "STUD". Fight On!

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the insight on Mayo. From what I have heard in some of your blogs and from others OJ is displaying leadership and disipline skills unlike some griped about. That he was a head case. That he would be a problem.

From my early impressions he has displayed maturity, leadership, an openest, and the disipline that goes against what some of the naysayers talked about before he came in.

Keep up the good fight OJ.

Fight On

How does Joe feel about playing every down on offense the whole year?

My son went to the Manning Passing Academy last week and the Coach from John Curtis was there, he said Joe Mcknight is spectacular and he has a younger brother that will be a sophomore who is very similar to Joe, keep Pete posted.

1. Enjoy this O.J. for the whole year. That is all we get to see of him.
2. I don't think we have to worry about PC knowing about young McKnight, do you, really? Remember when "The Joker" said about Batman, "Where does he get all those wonderful toys?"
The other Pac-10 coaches say of Pete, "Where does he get all those wonderful players?" Pete does just fine knowing about wonderful players, especially in our own back yard.
