If Minnehaha Can Do It . . .

Minnesota broke ground on a $288 million football stadium last week. And the Gophers did it even though only $51 million is raised so far.

There is a big difference between USC and Minnesota. Minnesota is a public institution which can allow the accumulation of debt, knowing that the taxpayer will eventually be able to foot the bill.

Steve Sample has made it clear that no construction projects should be undertaken until all funds are in place. The Galen Center went over budget and the funds still have not been fully raised. So the athletic department is currently not allowed to commence with any other projects until the Galen Center has been fully paid for.

The Coliseum rocks as it is.

Let Walker Lee Ashley take the new stadium.

$288 million? Doubt an SC type stadium could be built for anywhere close to that.
Assuming the Trojans use the Coliseum until the "new stadium" is finished rather than go to another temp stadium, which would be just horrible, where would it be built?
Coliseum needs a total refurbishing with parking under MLKing Blvd (It's still Santa Barbara Ave to me) and under Expo. Current parking just plain sucks. However, it is far better than the Rose Bowl. Hope the Bruins enjoy our home stadium during the regular season until we come "home" on New Year's Day. Talk about a stadium that need refurbishing. WOW!

Having just returned yesterday from a trip to Europe that included a stop in Rome and a visit to the venerable Colosseum, and after being on the field as a spectator last year (lucky me...a field pass for 3 games) the similarities between the two venues were obvious. The atmosphere in both the LA Coliseum and the Colosseum cannot be denied, and leaving the LA Coliseum could in my view be a mistake. It is one of college football's greatest venues. I cannot wait for the season to start! Oh, got a ton of "Fight On!" in Rome (family was wearing Trojan shirts). I receommend a visit to Rome...incredible!
