Not A Mitch Mustain Item

Despite some speculation otherwise, USC remains the No. 1 choice for Mater Dei offensive tackle Khaled Holmes. He did not attend the recent football camp because of other obligations but the Trojans remain his top choice, which is more relevant because some other Trojan prospect have not performed as well as expected this summer.

Holmes would be a great pickup!

On a side note, anyone read that article about Les Miles calling out USC and the Pac 10 on SI.com (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/) ? Even miguelito should be fired up! Miles blasted the quality of the teams in the Pac 10, and facetiously referred to UCLA as a real “juggernaut”.

FYI miguelito - facetious means playfully jocular or humorous...so that was an insult by Miles directed at the Bruins.

How great would it be if SC beats LSU in the BCS National Championship Game...in New Orleans... with a starting QB and starting RB from Louisiana! And then after SC beats LSU, Tiger fans have to watch the Saints rely on Reggie Bush to advance their team through the NFL playoffs!

Sorry, I know it is just a pipe dream right now...and before we even talk BCS, USC has to beat that powder blue and gold football juggernaut from Westwood!

JJ:
According to Rivals.com:

UCLA is ranked #1 so far with 21 commits. USC is 7 with three 5 star, four 4 star and two with three stars. UCLA does NOT have a single five star recruit among its 21 commits.
Les Miles is already moaning about USC's PAC 10 schedule...

Door Prize,

USC has nine commits total. We currently have three 5-stars, three 4-stars and three 3-stars.

The five stars are Matt Kalil, Tyron Smith and DJ Shoemate.

The four stars are Matt Meyer, Wes Horton and Chris Polk.

The three stars are Drew McAllister, Maurice Simmons and Curtis McNeal.

Our average is a perfect 4.

DP,

I think JP is right. SC is up to 9 recruits on Rivals with Matt Kalil, DJ Shoemate and Tyron Smith all listed as 5 Stars. UCLA is definitely tearing up the early recruiting period...signing lots of solid 3 and 4 Star recruits...but I will wait and see how all of these kids actually pan out during their respective senior years in highschool. I have seen Milton Knox play, and while he is a little guy, he is a pretty solid player.

Regardless of what UCLA does, if USC keeps bringing in the quality of recruits like last year’s class SC will be just fine. Even if UCLA does get a couple players, their potential will never be realized because they are still going to be coached by Coach Karl.

PS - LSU has 9 recruits listed on Rivals...three 4 Star recruits...and a whole lot of 3 Star recruits!

Holmes would be a great get for SC. Being good friends with Barkley does not hurt either.

yeah our O-line in like 2009 is going to be just awesome..

Yeah I saw that JJ..he is running his mouth already. Probably because he knows USC is the better team and will be #1 all season and there will be no headlines about LSU unless they lose a game or lose to USC in the NC game.

It's too bad I like LSU their fans are great. I go on LSU boards all the time they are real nice..AND, they made Notre Dame look stupid on national TV so I gotta love 'em!

Hey guys:
I stand corrected, I miscounted. Let me make a final observation though. ALL the nine recruits are from California which is PC's motto recruit your own backyard first and then go across the country.
Thanks

JJ, Note that Miles has a lot of nerve calling out SC's schedule..when on his very own sched are the likes of LA.Tech,Mid.Tenn,La.Tech,and Tulane?
I do give the SEC their deserved props and there are some very tough competition there-in, but note how they all schedule their bye's and tough roady's around this wonderful little list of bottom feeders and lower division competition. LSU and Auburn have both lost out on the title game in recent years because of their strength of sched. Granted I'm not high on our game upcoming with Idaho, but the upcoming road schedule that Troy will face this season is going to be a tough and brutal schedule!
