``That's the biggest I thing I want to do is knock them off. It's just going to be in my mind to beat them.''

I love it when USC beats this guy. It's going to be awesome when they beat him again this year!
Why do people think that Cal is so good? Seriously, what have they done under Jeff Tedford to warrant respect?

Because I think (contrary to opinions of my buddies) we should defend the rest of the PAC-10, here's a quote from ESPN, who just ranked Cal #35 in the nation over the last 10 years:
"The Bears went 1-10 the season before Tedford arrived in Berkeley, and they've won 43 games during his five seasons on the sideline."
"California (35) was one of the sport's worst programs before coach Jeff Tedford arrived. The Bears won 12 games in the five seasons before Tedford was hired, including a woeful 1-10 mark in 2001. Tedford has won 43 games in five seasons at Cal, and he has positioned the Bears as the Pac-10's second most consistent program behind Southern Cal."
That, and kinda-sorta-if-it-wasn't-for-the-tiebreaker sharing last year's PAC-10 title with a 7-2 record. A 7-1 second-place finish in 2004. The ONLY team to beat us (3OT in 2003) during our huge streak between the WSU loss in 2002 and the Texas Rose Bowl loss in 2006. Without that one loss we'd have had a 46-game winning streak going into that Rose Bowl. I'm just surprised we haven't heard as much about that from Cal fans as we've heard from the bRuins about 13-9.
***And no Lynch in the backfield anymore!***
Yes, without Lynch this year, it'll be tough for them, no doubt about that.
Losing Lynch is no doubt huge but don't forget they still have a 3,000 yard passer returning in Nate Longshore and his three favorite recievers. I think they lost half their defensive starters but it may not be the end of the world. USC didn't do too bad when they lost high-profile playes like Cody, Patterson and Grootegoed all at once. Other players stepped up and maybe some of the lesser-known guys might do the same or better for the Cal defense. Speaking of which, don't underestimate those little-known guys with a solid coach.
And in my opinion, I wouldn't be too quick to judge DeSean Jackson for the quote mentioned above. You never know the context of his answer and by looking at it, it seems like he was kind of lead into it.

I think this is the third year in a row I've heard that exact quote from DeSean. You'd think he'd keep his mouth shut after Kevin Ellison almost wired it shut for him last year. In retrospect, I'm very happy USC didn't land this guy.
DeSean, how ya feeling? Can't wait until we meet again.

Jason, I respect your comments. But I still stand by what I said. Jeff Tedford has made so much money off that USC win years ago that it's almost robbery of the Treasury of California.
Okay, I applaud them for bouncing back and beating Minnesota last year after having been embarrassed by Tennessee (and humiliating the Pac 10). But still, it's Minnesota. Other than the 2003 USC victory, there's really nothing else to hang the hat on... unless they live vicariously through UCLA. If it weren't for the game plan of Dwayne Walker, they wouldn't even have that "Co"-Pac Championship last year. We all know USC crushed them last year head to head.
True, but it's better than what they used to be, because they used to be me out on the links hitting double bogey after triple bogey after snowman. Don't forget that this was one of the worst programs in the NCAA under Tom Holmoe. Just a terrible program from top to bottom, so the fact that they're even relevant speaks volumes about what Tedford has been able to accomplish. I for one, am glad that Cal is the second best program in the Versus Conference. It sure beats listening to those 13-9 chumps down the street. Oh wait, they still run their yaps everytime they put down the mop.
Fight On!

Lynch may be gone, but RB Justin Forsett is no slouch. He is small, but very fast. The game is at Cal this year, and may be one of our toughest tests. Fight On!

At this point, the "biggest thing" better be a victory over Tennesse. The Pac-10 has yet to recover from that pratfall the Golden Bears phoned in last season.

i don't know how much better he can do this year against a new breed of safety that runs a 4.28 forty. My guess: not much. USC rolls in Hippie Town this year.
No, that honor needs to go to Oregon, given that abhorrent banana costume Adidas dressed him in a year ago. Nike didn't reach that level of ugly with their super custom Oregon mix and match gear, but they certainly reached the same extreme of forgetting context.

Gotta love that Cal-Stanford "The Big Game" rivalry.
...oh wait, he wasn't talking about Sanford? oops...
