SW, its July 21, are you ready for the 2007 Season! Fight On!

When does practice start again?

Scott, I liked your input in this year's Lindy's PAC-10 preview. For those of you who haven't read it yet, it's a great look at what's to come this year. They have ASU rated at 3 in the PAC-10. Do you think this has more to do with the arrival of Erikson as new head coach or their favorable 8 home games this year?

Scott:

I have heard Mitch Mustain is a very religious and moral young man, so do you get the impression from your interactions with him that it comes across in his demeanor regarding whether he is a person of high character who will avoid getting in off the field troubles, and embarrassing us like some other players have done these past few years?

Thanks for all your forums, they are always a great read.

Where did Michael Coleman and the others out-tranfers go to?

What did your ballot look like for Versus Conference Media Day, Scott?

We know SC's strength and conditioning program are a large part of our recent successes. For the armchair warriors among us, would Coach Carlisle ever consider publishing details of the program (specific lifts, reps/sets, speed of movement, schedule, philosophy, diet, etc)?

What are the prospects of RouSean Cromwell's health improving to the extent he can fulfill his potential he showed his freshman year?

Other than the USC-Arkansas game, have you watched any significant footage of Mitch Mustain from his freshman year at Arkansas? Have you seen enough to form a knowledgeable opinion on him as a college quarterback, and what do you think of him and his skills at the college level?

Do you think Dave Baker, father of Sam Baker and commissioner of the Arena Football League would make a good Pac-10 Commish? Can't get any worse. Also what is the workout schedule of the players with Carlisle right now?

Scott -

I've always wondered this. Why is it that quarterbacks usually don't appear to be as muscular as the other players? (Does it have something to do with flexibility?)

Thanks

From what you have seen of Mitch Mustain, do you think he is in ideal physical shape to be a starter, or do you think he needs to bulk up or at all before spring training starts?

Where do you think the post-game victory party should be in Lincoln on 9/15?

SW..You've interviewed Mustain a couple of times and have also started interviewing young Mr Corp. When do we get the no holds barred 1 on 1 with Sanchez? The big way he recruited others after he orininally committed to SC made me feel that he was a gung ho team guy back then. I'd like to know what his take/s are now and how he feels about the competition that he's embroiled in and on his views as the current backup?
Goliathtrojan

Any idea when the new season schedule poster will be out?

What are the chances that Will Ferrell will play the part of Mitch Mustain in the upcoming movie release?

Are you ever going to update the videos on your blog? Those three videos have been there for many, many, many months! How about a brand new video with Mitch Mustain? It could feature both an interview and footage of him practicing. It could be a preview of the movie version of Mitch and Me.

Mitch Mustain made your blog into the big hit it has become this year, and you need to highlight the man behind all your web hits with a video.

Fight on!

goliathtrojan:

No one cares about Sanchez. It's all about America's Quarterback, Mitch Mustain.

When Sanchez was spending 2006 in jail for raping a student, America's Quarterback, Mitch Mustain started eight games as a true freshman quarterback in the toughest conference in the country and won all eight games. That is the best record any true freshman quarterback has ever had in the history of Division 1A college football.

It's all about America's Quarterback, Mitch Mustain. Don't ask Scott to waste his time on that Sanchez. It will drive his readers away.

Scott knows what the readers want and that's anything and everything about America's Quarterback, Mitch Mustain.

Mustain in 2008!

Hi Scott

Please disregard my previous question.

What do you think of the O-line next year? Baker Spanos and Radovich will graduate. I am hearing Chilo Rachal has looked so good he will leave for the NFL.

That leaves us with Jeff Byers. Will he stay? So who will play O-line next year? Howell Brown Davis and ....? UGH..none of them have much experience. I saw Charles Brown play once when Rachal had to go out for a play because he got hurt..that's about it.

Are the coaches worried? What does Pat Ruel think?

Scott, going into the new season which position coaches have the most to prove this year with their respective units play?
I think possibly the special teams coach is on the hot seat with our mediocre play there last year, agree?

What are the chances Mitch Mustain will leave early for the NFL after next season, leaving hundreds and hundreds (thousands?) of fans without anything to ask you about next season?

Do the freshmen players at workouts seems to be bonding as a group?

In your time covering the Trojans, who was the biggest recruit that got away? Not just a big name, but a guy that actually went on to have an outstanding career at another school and at a position that was concurrently a weakness for the Trojans. I’m hoping it’s doesn’t turn out to be DeShawn Jackson, and that we get significant contributions from Hazelton, Ausberry, Ro-jo or McKnight this year.

Scott,

Please ask Mitch Mustain:

1) If he becomes a movie star, would he prefer appearing in action, drama or comedy films?
2) If he had a choice, would it be a career in TV or movies?
3) Plastic or paper?
4) Electric or conventional razor?
5) Boxers or briefs?
6) Does he like to put extra butter on his popcorn at the movies?
7) How many ESPY's do you think he will win in his lifetime?
8) Will there be a giant parade in downtown Los Angeles (or outside the Daily News building in the SF Valley) after Mitch's first start at quarterback?
9) Kawasaki or Harley?
10) Baked or mashed potatoes?

I'm sure the MM Gang is out there, waiting on pins and needles for answers to these and other highly provocative questions.

By the way, I'm selling memberships in the Mitch Mustain Fan Club for $29.95 if anybody is interested. Climb on the bandwagon now while the price is reasonable!

Scott,

Assuming neither Sanchez or Mustain do anything to distinguish themselves or create separation from the other during ’08 spring and fall camps, who does Pete Carroll pick to be his starter: a guy with three years in the program, two as the #1 back-up, or a guy with one year in the program as the scout team #1?

Ex-Sportswriter: my new favorite poster.

What is your prediction on what accomplishments both Matt Leinart and Carson Palmer will achieve in their NFL careers? i.e. Superbowls, probowls, HOF etc?

#1- Please disregard 1966's 2nd question. His 3rd (and potentially final) question will come soon)

#2- Who was your (66-19) previous favorite poster?

#3- For real and for Scotty: I know you haven't made out your preseason top 25 yet, but we all know that we're in for the inevitable W. Virginia as your number 1 team and Hawaii in the top 10 because they figure to have easy schedules. But my question is this: when putting together rankings, have you ever considered ranking the teams based on how good they are instead of trying to predict how they'll float through an easier schedule. After all, they are called rankings, not predictions. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Great Scott: I need to comment on a couple of readers' posts above;

1. Someone has been posting under the name of tirebiter==well, they say imitation is the best form of flattery--and I have no objections to anything the reader has posted, but I want to make it clear to all that that is not me--I have a one after my name of tirebiter, as this post will show.

2. A reader above posted that Sanchez was in jail for rape--I think this is really unfair to Pete--when two people have consensual sex, it is so easy for the girl to scream rape afterward. This is especially true when $$ is involved, and Pete is going to have a good chance to play in the NFL. Even the district attorney chose not to press charges as it was a case of "he said--she said". To call Sanchez a rapist is disgusting. No one knows except Pete and the girl-so let's have fair play here.

Now to my question;
You said last time that Holmes, Ayles and Casey were close to locks for the Trojans. After them, in order, who would be your next top 5 that are the next closest to locks that the Trojans would like a commit from?

Thanx in advance, Scott, and thanx for continuing the mini-forum--these are really the dog days of summer!

Pete Carroll has said if two players are up for the same position with relatively equal talents, he will always choose the younger player with more eligibility to start, since he will contribute longer to the program and has more time to develop. So do you think this will work in Mustain's favor in securing the starting QB job as he will have one more year of eligibility over Sanchez and far more game experience?

TIREBITER1-

Truth is, Mark Sanchez WAS arrested for sexual assault. Can't deny that. It's a fact. Whether it was right or wrong, that's open to interpretation, but it did happen. Everyone has to face the consequences of their actions, including being arrested for sexual assault. So you can't say that it should never be mentioned if it did happen and that's what someone is most well known for. Eric Wright was also arrested for sexual assault and it is always mentioned in the media whenever his name comes up. It simply goes with the territory.

How Do You Do?

For the longest time all we heard from Pete Arbogast was his continuing quest to be back on the radio in addition to his Trojan football play by play. That--and his upcoming August (as I recall) wedding. Then finally he announced via his "ArboBlog" of being back on radio on a Monday--that NEVER came, then secrecy about a job at USC, nothing more on him, other radio and/or his wedding. What's the update?

Scott, has a timetable been set as to when Felix Chevrolet will move from its current location across the street from the Galen Center and construction on university housing will begin?

Scott,
After watching some video footage of the passing drills it looks like RoJo and Joe McKnight have some serious speed and great hands do you see these 2 being split out at the same time to give defenses headaches, both seem to give our starting cornerback fits when they were going one on one?

Thanks,

What is the status on Marshall Jones?

Uh oh...looks like we have a new member of the idiot club to join reelbruin and door prize..presenting "sureshot"!

If it's OK with you sureshot, I would like Scott to take a look at my second question..and I think 66-19 is free to like any post he wants. Here's just what we need, another double digit IQ guy on here posting unsolicited attackes. We don't have enough of that yet let's get some more.

BTW West Virginia does not have one of the easiest schedules in the country and some teams have weaker schedules than others. USC does not have the #1 hardest schedule so should he go harder on USC? Obviously soneone else's is harder..We could get ripped for playing Idaho and a poor ND team...

TIREBITER1 welcome to the world of Scott Wolf blog....what happened to you happens all the time..happened to me about a year ago...It's usually done by some brain dead UCLA fan (boy is that a redundency) trying to cause trouble and make you mad.

Unfortunately, Scott has no interest in monitoring this blog or keeping any rules like normal sites and people are aware of this and play games and do whatever they want. So get used to it, along with all the racial slurs, refernces to Hitler, stupid arguments and other crap that's on here..

Scott:

Since Booty is considered a favorite to win the Heisman and could very well be a first team All American selection, then why do none of the so-called "experts" predict that he will be a first round pick in the NFL draft? What is it about him that makes him a good college quarterback but does not appeal to professional teams?

Thank you for the forum. It is the informative site on USC athletics, bar none.

Could Ryan Boatwright play football, basketball and baseball? Or does he just play basketball?

Come on, everyone...bail Mustainmania for Boatwrightmania! Jump aboard the boat!

In hindsight, does it not seem very foolish and embarrassing for Tom Malone to have held a press conference after his junior year to say he was not going to declare early for the NFL draft and was going to come back for his senior year instead, even though three years later, he still has never played in the NFL? Do you think the other USC players will now learn not to make such lofty, ill-conceived, decisions to hold a press conference regarding their own sense of importance? Or do you think Malone's mistakes make no difference to underclassmen and their NFL decisions?

TIREBITER1,
Floggings will not change their attitudes.

Fight ON!

Hmm, I guess maybe I didn't have a favorite poster before. I suppose maybe it is an inaugural honor.

Our special teams play doesn't seem up to par with Offense and Defense.

What are the odds T. Patterson or J. McKnight start returning kicks/punts? They seem like they can be more of a home run threat than Reed.

SAE: Like it or not pal, Sanchez is a Trojan, he is in a fair competition with the others for the job and if he ends up on the field in Cardinal and Gold, I'll root like hell for his success just as I will for each of the others! I don't give a rip about the outside stuff, only between the lines! Thanks for your interest but please, I'm not interested in it.
Fight On!
Goliathtrojan

Does the USC football team have a slogan for this upcoming season?

What do you mean the jury is still out on Morrell Presley. Are the coaches second guessing him or do you not like him?

TrojanSAEqueerForMustainInNYC

I hear the night Sanchez was getting a piece of ass, Mustain was pulling pud to naked pictures of Adam and Eve.

To the previous poster immediately above (and others contributing to this site who obviously belong in day care so they can get their diapers changed) ...

Usually I like to keep things light-hearted on my contributions to this blog, but ...

Understand this:

You need an IQ above 2 to post on this blog.

If you are going to post "junk" just to see your screen name online, take it to some gutless little bruins site someplace.

Don't even argue or bother to post a reply to this request.

Just go away.

Among their many skills as WRs, Keary Colbert and Steve Smith were both talented and clever in handling their blocking assignments. Any of the new guys show similar ability?

WHAAAAA!

Ex-whatever, from the reaction, sounds like you're the one soiling diapers.

SCNATE,
Excellent observation, like to see this early in the game. However, in crucial situations, I would rest easier with Reed back there. Remember ND 2005 he held on to the ball as his ankle was being twisted in the weed patch.

To USC1966, Jay#42, and Goliathtrojan: Just want to say thank you.

To 28TH street: Of course what you say is true, BUT, the reader said, re Sanchez, "spending 2006 in jail for raping a student." I would suggest a fairer statement would have read "was jailed briefly for ALLEGEDLY raping a student" Get my point? Remember, the D.A. said there was not enough evidence to file charges. That's why I think the post was unfair to Pete. ;

Tirebiter1..I 100% concur with your point posted above regarding fairness.

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
