Bad Timing

Was there a worse time for Mark Sanchez to suffer an injury if it prevents him from being available for the Idaho game?
Unless John David Booty gets hurt this year, the Idaho game was probably expected to be the Trojans' biggest blowout, which meant a possible earlier-than-usual appearance for Sanchez. And it raises the question of whether USC would risk Aaron Corp's redshirt year. Probably not.

Actually, freshmen can play in the first game and still redshirt (per ncaa). If Sanchez isn't ready, Corp could play against Idaho and still redshirt.

There are worse things than using up Corp's redshirt year if it means we could use him at key moments. Is McDonald really up to the challenge of leading us better than Corp? Probably not. So if it means something happens to Booty, we should use Corp and he can always redshirt next year when Mustain starts.

Actually McDonald is not exactly chopped liver. He's produced and without mistakes every time called upon thus far. H'd be perfectly acceptable to play under control and not cause us to lose. He's been in the program a long time and has paid his dues on the practice field. Granted the up and comers are probably better athletes but
I'd certainly not be broken up if if McDonald were called upon by PC.

WTF?

By the way, Corp could always redshirt next year (similar to what Booty did in 2004).

McDonald is pretty good, but I don't think he can lead us to a national championship. I also don't think Sanchez can either. Booty can lead us to a national championship and so can Mustain. Corp is good, but not ready for the highest levels of college football just yet. He will be very good in time, but he has been out of high school for a matter of two months at this point. Then again, Mustain was in the same position last year and did a phenomenal job, so anything is possible.

Since Mustain can't play this year, let's hope nothing happens to Booty the rest of the way. Otherwise, we can say goodbye to a national championship.

Why must Corp redshirt this year? Why can he not redshirt next year? There's no rush for him to redshirt.

Garrett Green?

Thank God the injury was to Sanchez and not Booty. Sanchez can easily be replaced by Corp. Booty cannot be replaced by anyone other than Mustain, who cannot even play until next year. Sanchez being out is no big loss.

A big Fight On to Aaron Corp!

sorry, but this is just not true. you are probably getting confused with a medical hardship waiver, where a player can petition the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility if he suffers a season ending injury but he/she played in less then 20% of the teams season (about 3 games).

under NCAA rules, even ONE PLAY in a single football game will cause you to lose a full year of eligibility, unless an exception applies (medical hardship, etc.)

I am sure Mitch Mustain will play many reps at the August 22 scrimmage. It will be a regular gameday atmosphere and he can showcase his amazing talents for all to see. If there are only a limited number of plays, then it is better to utilize only the quarterbacks who will play this year. Mitch will, no doubt, start for us next year, but it would make no sense if if played in a limited play scrimmage over quarterbacks who are eligible to play this year and need to get the reps.
