Biggest Surprises

Which freshmen have been the biggest surprises on offense and defense?
This question excludes players like Joe McKnight or Everson Griffen, who everyone knows about.
Without question, the two top candidates are tight end Rhett Ellison and linebacker Malcolm Smith. Ellison caught four passes during the team period of the first practice and continues to make plays that impress the coaches.
Smith was sort of an unknown because USC never saw him play the weakside linebacker position but every day Pete Carroll seems to rave about him.

Sounds good to me...

Scott 2 questions:

Why does Petros mis-pronounce every other word? Like "Mitch Moose-stain" and "Matt Grooty-goo" ?

Do you think Everson will have a negative impact on the team?

With great class, anyone could come out and impress the coaching staff. It's wide open. '08 ain't looking too bad, either.

Scott Wolf

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
