Blind Item Of The Day

| | Comments (29) |

Last week's Salute to Troy was an uneventful affair unless you were seated at the table with the parents of a new player, who were upset because they felt he did not get enough chance to win the starting job and made a point to tell other guests at their table.

McKnight?

About 5 TBs. Pete hasn't yet unveiled his plan to field an entire team made up entirely of TBs.

VH or AB is my guess. Both dads were very vocal during the recruiting process & neither son won the starting job.

Looks like the powder blue teddy bear fans are out trying to make up for their coach who is heavily into Breaking and entering, but is still on the squad...:))

I changed the locks on my door recently...

anyway..this is Arkansas Houston Nutt "Springdale 5" drama and we don't need it. Whoever they are needs to be told to be quiet. Every parent thinks their kid should be given a better shot and should start

I love Bruin fans! Since Eric Scott and his arrest as a hamburglar, nary a peek from the powder blue nation. Without further ado, they're ba-ack!! Missed you guys. Now some stupid Trojan Fans can get all worked up and complain to Scott that he should ban them from the SC boards. I am going to be hitting refresh on this blog entry all day. Thanks fellas!

Grover hit it dead on--It's gotta be Vidal Hazelton. His parents never wanted him at USC in the first place. His dad wouldn't even sign the LOI. I am sure since it looks like he will be splitting time with Ausberry they are raising holy hell and telling him to transfer to Penn st.

Wolf never revals who his "Blind Item" are about.

I think McKnight is a given to get touches whenever he's ready.

If it's going to be a freshman i'd guess Brandon Carswell or maybe Marshall Jones

Here's a link to the list of 2007 recruits if anyone wants to guess.

Man, great reading comprehension on here everyone. Wolfie said "new player" and VH1 and Bradford have been around for a year. Hardly new.

Could be McKnight or RoJo's parents but that's a long way to travel for a banquet. So I rule them out. I would think local, maybe Marc Tyler (although he's been injured so probably not), maybe Gallipo, O'Down, or Carswell.

I can't believe McNair participated in dog fighting, with arrests in 1993, 1994 and 1996. It doesn't make any sense that he would do something so immoral as this. It has to be case of mistaken identity. I'll withhold judgment until the real truth comes out.

Kelphus said:

Big deal. Man Scott, you are better than this...

I sat in front of Steve Smith's dad during Smith's freshman season, first or second home game. His dad made similar comments "why doesn't my boy get more touches?" etc etc.

Hmm it worked out OK for #2, don't you all think? So who cares about a parent grousing... that just shows our players have loyal parents....

Ooh this is a tricky one Scott.

New player = freshman so that rules out Bradford or Hazelton. (Hazelton's parents couldn't really complain anyways because their son had the starting spot going into fall, got hurt and fell back).

I'm gonna rule out all the kids on the defensive side of the ball because if you came into USC this year thinking you were gonna unseat any of the LBs or safeties you would be a total lunatic. (I thought about Griffen but then realized he's listed as a starter)

So my guess is that it's a kid in an offensive spot, probably a spot that had openings. So either RB or WR (or TE?). That leaves:

MCKNIGHT: Got hurt, but will get major time when healthy = NO WAY.

ROJO: Explosive (will be a stud), never really got hurt, wasn't made a starter but will play a ton this year in 4/5 WR sets and on ST = NO WAY.

CARSWELL: Great on the Scout team but didn't really see that much time running with the 1's. Won't play much (likely red-shirt) = VERY LIKELY.

GREEN: Academic status was up in the air for a while (thanks NCAA) but then got a big look at the end. Might red-shirt if guys start healing = MAYBE

TYLER: Never really practiced. Still hurt and not cleared for contact. A true Trojan from day 1 = NO WAY.

ELLISON: Come on - he's a TE and the smallest recruited one at that. But with the way Fred Davis played in the scrimmage I could see some resentment = POSSIBLE.

So there you have it. According to my brilliant deductions it's: Carswell, Ellison or Green's parents.

But then again it could be some crazy parent that thought their kid would come in and unseat Sedrick Ellis. I give up.

"Scott - no charges, no crime"

Scott admitted guilt to three misdemeanors -- two concealed-weapon cases and a disturbing-the-peace incident -- between 1996 and 2005.

Scott - criminal. Thug.

I disagree with you. I followed VH recruiting path to USC very closely. Here are my points:
1. VH step dad is a very conservative man and comes across as a disciplinarian. To prove that point VH went to Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia even though they reside in NY.
2. Having stated #1 you don't send your kid to a military school to be a spoiled belly aching brat. That does NOT make sense does it 66?
3. VH step dad wanted to make sure VH made the right choice and that is why they visited PSU and after that he signed VH LOI. He also stated in public he respected VH choice therefore he signed his LOI.
Yes, VH step dad was NOT crazy about USC. Furthermore it was reported that him and PC had some serious talks.
Thanks

I am with DP, Hazelton was one of the friendliest Trojans at the Salute to Troy and was in a great mood that evening...and he really seems like a good kid and not likely the player at issue. Scott, kill the suspense...who is it?

PS - ReelBruin,

Scott - Arrested, but charges were not brought by the DA (because there were issues getting the witnesses to cooperate/come forward). However, Scott has a criminal record with numerous prior arrests...not a good guy.

McNair - dog beater. Sicko....agreed.

hahah...oops

Thanks baxterbob. I am not always with it.

You are right, VH is not a new player.

allrighty then....everyone insert stupid joke here.

haha

New player....this might sound strange but the first name that pops into my head is C. Tupou. He was fairly highly regarded and I never hear him mentioned by Wolfie..

I was at work while posting and distracted

It's close to the first game and I was distracted by that too

VH SEEMS like a new player because he hasn't played much

Lots of other people made the same mistake

hahahaaaa

Clearing the air
Running backs coach Todd McNair clarifies that he was convicted of only two counts of animal neglect. He was never convicted of cruelty to animals or dogfighting.

USC running backs coach Todd McNair cleared the air after a newspaper report surfaced Wednesday morning.

A story in Wednesday’s Los Angeles Times cited reports that said the former NFL player and fourth-year USC coach faced charges for mistreatment of dogs more than a decade ago.

But McNair clarified the issues Wednesday morning. The only counts he was convicted on were two charges of animal neglect, one in 1996 and the other in 1993. Both revolved around improper housing of his dogs during inclement weather and not having all the required licenses.

He was exonerated of all other charges.

He was never convicted of cruelty to animals or dog fighting.

I think that pretty much settles that...ahem..reel bruin, et al

This isn't surprising. These parents have watched their kid excel at every level they've played, in most cases the kid was light-years ahead of the kids on their team and the teams they played. This is what they know, they're not used to their kid sitting.

Also - I can't think of anything more pathetic than harping on something that occurred more than a decade ago. Dumb thing to do, but he hasn't done it since. It's not like McNair's been arrested several times in recent years.

Todd McNair should be fired from USC. This is not a person whose behavior is worthy of the university and he should not be allowed to represent, let alone receive a paycheck, from such a fine institution.

Animal Neglect? Sounds like another plea deal rather than what really happened!

Eric Scott wasn't charged and was reinstated after charges were dropped.

Let's hear it for another proud Trojan, Mr. Todd Marinovich!! See where Mitch Mustain will amount to by 2009!

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
