Your such a fool Scott, the only "internet sensation" is your tabloid blog. Scott it was very irresponsible of you to say the quote below, most SC fans do not believe he will win the starting job next year. You let a few Whiney-Little-Pukes get you all excited and you go and put this moronic statement in a newspaper.
You know Scott i wonder what's really going on in your head about MMustain. There is a line between being a reporter and a stalker....with all your tabloid material lately regarding Mitch it's obvious your stalking the poor kid and it's damn creepy!
"Mustain will challenge Mark Sanchez and Aaron Corp in the spring in the search for a successor to John David Booty. He's become an Internet sensation among USC fans who believe he will win the job."

Mitch Mustain is obviously a fine young man who is very hard on himself, and that is the sign of a great athlete. What may be a good showing for others may not be satisfactory for Mitch. His standards are clearly much higher than that of the average person. So by taking responsibility, he shows his maturity and that is a young man I am proud to call a Trojan.

That's the straight talk we have come to expect from Mitch! While Mitch is being honest about himself, Mark Sanchez has proven to the world he is a liar when he lied to the LA Times in August 2006 about videotaped evidence against him that was shown to a room full of journalists on a loop.
Just amazing how someone can deny something happened that was shown on an actual videotape, over and over again.
Mustain is the anti-Sanchez - honest, clean, humble and never been in trouble with the law. He does not lie to the media and embarrass USC by getting arrested for raping a student, vandalizing private property, getting in brawls, using fake identification and engages in underage drinking. There's more, but I don't have all day, some of us have a job to get to.
Thank goodness Mitch Mustain will start in 2008 over a criminal like Sanchez, who will probably transfer to either UNLV or Colorado.

You've got to love a kid who is so competitive, he is critical of his play despite being accurate and strong, while no one else even noticed any mistakes. It's that kind of brutal honesty that separates great athletes from merely good athletes. I am surprised by his words after just the first day of practice, but you do not get to be the best by having a laissez-faire attitude.
So welcome to the Trojan Family! We're glad to have you here.

Ugh, the pollyannaish attitude on the comments is laughable. "fine young man" "honest" etc. Sounds to me like Joe Biden calling Obama "clean and articulate." I don't give a shit who is tithing the poor or anything else - get the best QB on the field next year. If it's Sanchez, more power to Sanchez!

OK Azbet let's put the microscope on your--or my-- or anyone else's life.
Geez you make Sanchez out like he is some kind of serial murderer.
I don't care either way about Sanchez but let's stick with reality.
He was not convicted of assault. Not rape, assault. And he was never even charged as far as I remember. Yeah, he did a little underage drinking..what, he's the only kid in the USA who did some underage drinking? I don't think I would put using a fake ID in the same class as first degree murder.
I am not sure about the rest of the stuff you said, but who knows what happens at press conferences. Remember the whole Joe McKnight/Reggie Bush thing earlier this year?
As far as Sanchez transferring to UNLV, that's just plain dumb. He has been here for 3 years and is way ahead of Mustain as far as knowing the USC system goes. The coaches feel confident in him. Mustain has said himself he is at USC to not stand out in the crowd and not have to be the savior and start maybe 1 year, because he is tired of the spotlight.
We don't need any USC bashing on here let's stick to the facts and leave the garbage to the UCLA fans.

I like how the top story about the first day of practice is somehow about Mitch Mustain! I suppose everything these days is somehow related to Mustain.
Other than that, good job on the article, Scott. You covered quite a bit of ground, while making sure you included the daily quotient of Mustain.

USC1966:
I stuck to the facts. Nothing I said can be disputed. Not one word. He lied on the record to the LA Times and the reporter even said that in his 40 years as a reporter, he had never experienced anything like it.

That's true about the LA Times interview. Sanchez was actually banned from talking to media after that and the content was mentioned by numerous other newspapers, including campus papers of PAC-10 universities.

Thank you for telling it like it is to the usual suspects. SW in another blog stated the same thing that MS is way ahead by being in the system for three years.
urangajr2:
I appreciate your SW criticism of turning this into a tabloid mess. This is the only blog/site in which a few followers-USUAL SUSPECTS-favor MM over MS.
Get over it U-S MS will start in 08.

I think Mustain has been over hyped on this blog. He will find that this system is very competitive. Nothing is going to be handed to him. As he mentioned thing will be moving a bit faster with our defense. He will face stiff competition from all of our QBs.
I wish Scott would not have orchestrated this orgy between Mitch and the blog readers. I believe its placing our expectations too high. Mark as well as Aaron will give Mitch all he can ask for over the next 2 years. The guys with the strongest will power and who can stick with it will prevail. May the best man win out.

Azbet, please, the LA Times reporter said he had never seen anything like that in 40 years ??? (Sanchez Lying about his fake ID) I can figure out who is the stupidist (yea I know maybe not a real word, but you get the picture) You or that reporter. Mostcollege kids wont cop out to stuff if it will get him them in trouble, hell, alot of adults wont either. To say that he has never seen anything like that in 40 years tells me either he has only interviewed honest people (yea right ,in LA?), or he just flat out believes everything he hears (yea right , a LA Times reporter?) anyhow my point is this ,he asked Sanchez if the name on the ID was a real person and Sanchez replied "I dont know what you are talking about" uh duh , who in thier right mind would tell any reporter anything?? would you ?? i dont think so. So he didnt tell him what he wanted to hear. Go out and ask anyone at a club that looks under age if they are really the person on the ID and see how many "Sanchez " replies you get ......Its what College kids do , I did and so did many others, Its how we got into clubs you dope! yes yes yes we cheated the system ! Geez get over that already he is a KID.......we all were and we F'ed up some times , we are not all criminals because of that ...
let him be and let him compete for the QB spot in peace already

The sports section is the only place where a reporter can grill a guy with a Hispanic last name about having a fake driver's license. Long live the sports section! Egads people... who among us didn't ever ever use an ID that didn't belong to us for some nefarious purpose when we were under 21? Good grief.

That link only mentions part of the article. In the full article, Sanchez is actually caught telling quite a few more lies on the record. That's why that reporter said whatever he said about being surprised by the lies Sanchez told him, especially since the SC athletic department and Sanchez had both been told for several weeks in advance what the questions he was going to be asked were going to be about.

Sanchez being a liar is hardly news. He has MAJOR character flaws and is a very poor representative for the university. Thankfully there are now alternatives.

I think the issue is only partly about using a fake ID, with the main issue being that Sanchez lied despite irrefutable evidence against him.

Some of you are obviously prejudiced against Latinos'.
Some of you have your heads on straight.
Any football fan with brains knows that Sanchez currently has an edge over Mustain because he knows the system--that being said, it will be an interesting spring practice, and Mitch, in my opinion, has about a 40% chance of beating Pete out-let the best player win.
I like the way Mitch talks-he has his head on straight-not like some of you idiots. Let's all shut the hell up re this controvery until Spring '08

Well ya know Prize this Sanchez bashing is irritating just because last year we had booty bashing, before Leinart bashing, before..I can remember people arguing Mike Van Raaphorst vs Carson Palmer..
The backup QB is always the most popular guy...hahaha..let's just let them decide it on the field and stop arguing about who did what with a fake ID or whatever..

Stop with all the negative crap. Kids make mistakes and if they make enough of them, they will reap what they sow. Aaron Corp will more than likely be the starting qb in 2 years, so let it go. Enjoy where we are as Trojans. Remember to the Tollner days, along with Larry Smith post Marinovich? USC was not even on the radar of posting a top 25 ranking...stop hating

1966... Nobody in their right mind wanted Van Raap over Palmer! My favorite was Otten v. Kyle Wacholtz. Clearly Otten was the better and more complete QB, but how do you not get with a guy who is a threat to maim or kill an opposing linebacker?

TIREBITER1:
Before I go any further let me say this. I have this philosophy. One brain can be dumb, but when two brains agree there is something right in the system. I was accused of using the race card. If I understood correctly TB1 just proved my accusations right. I suspected that all along about the usual suspects. Having said that:
1. TB1, thank you so much.
2. As a result I am vindicated.
3. I owe you a cup a coffee! TB1 do you like Puertorican coffee?
Once more I thought MS had a chance of beating JDB. I never bashed JDB, not even in my personal thoughts. I have posted before that I gracefully accepted JDB winning the job. I am rooting hard for him and I hope if everything goes well he will get the Heisman trophy.

Nice email TIREBITER1, another solid, honest post as always...
...but had you said MM had a 51% chance of starting instead of 40%...I doubt you would have been offered Puerto Rican coffee from THE USUAL SUSPECT...it is far more likely that the self-proclaimed philosopher would have called you a racist...even if you were Latino!
And DP, way to be a real man again by admitting your multiple spelling shortcomings scattered throughout this thread...very impressive!
