More Scrimmage
Mitch Mustain was just happy to get his first live experience after sitting out the first scrimmage.
"I felt comfortable and it was a lot of fun," Mustain said. "I was preparing this week for it and I had a blast doing it."

Well, he certainly came prepared to impress and it showed. Good for him and good for the Trojans.

This is why I'll always favor Sanchez over Mustain.
He would give the shirt off his back

In the middle of the scrimmage, Mark Sanchez spotted a kid standing on the sidelines wearing a Notre Dame shirt. He swiftly walked over to the boy, removed his own USC shirt, made the kid change, and then walked away with a smile after his successful conversion effort.

Well, Sanchez has a history of getting caught with his clothes off!
Considering that Mustain was in uniform and was going to play in the scrimmage, I guess you shouldn't favor him since he kept his shirt on! Duh...

America's Quarterback, Mitch Mustain, has plenty to be happy about. He laid it all out on the field and, today, we now all know America's Quarterback, Mitch Mustain, will be the next starting quarterback for the USC Trojans in 2008.
Mustain in 2008!

...you are right...Mustain didn’t interact with the kids on the sidelines during the scrimmage.... Mustain was too busy playing and learning the play book for 2008!
I kid, I kid...if you have ever seen Sanchez interact with fans or the media...he has always been a class act. Unfortunately, giving a kid a USC shirt (which is a very nice gesture) isn’t really a factor in determining who will be the starting USC QB in 2008.
More importantly why are they letting kids wearing Notre Dame shirts into a private USC scrimmage?

Mustain BROUGHT IT last night!
I will see him for myself at the scrimmage on the 22nd. Sanchez should just transfer now rather than wait until the spring for the inevitable. It makes sense for him to leave now and not waste another year of eligibility which he will not see any playing time.
Fight On!

I will be going to my first-ever scrimmage next week to see what all the fuss is about with my own eyes. Never thought I would go to see just one player, but it will be the only chance I will have to see Mitch Mustain in action before he starts next year, so I'm willing to put up with the long lines for In-N-Out!

JJH4USC:
I am sure I will be most impressed by many players, but I will be able to see them during the regular season. Mustain, on the other hand, is franchise player whom I will not be able to see in a game situation for another year. While there has been an awful lot of talk about Mustain for the past few months, it just appears that everything exploded across the board today. Everyone has now declared him for real and the last few remaining supporters for Sanchez have now turned pro-Mustain. So I have to go see him for myself, and I am quite excited.

Omg. Mustain there 3 passes against the 2nd team and scout defense. Puhlease. He won't beat out Sanchez next year unless Sanchez gets hurt. Bank on it.
You know who threw a perfect 100% last spring in a scrimmage? None other than McDonald. Think he'll start next season? Um. No. 3 for 3 mopping up a scrimmage tells us exactly bupkiss about Mustain in this offense.

Sanchez is finished. Ask any of the hundreds of people who attend practices and they will tell you about how he is always getting intercepted by fifth rate walk ons, fumbles every chance he gets and throws one incomplete after another. That boy is slow and gets sacked like there is no tomorrow.
This is far from a minority view; it is the only view by those who have witnessed Sanchez. He is so inconsistent, he has no business playing at the college level. He simply never made the transition from high school to college and it is now all too evident. Heck, why did Sarkisian even say this week that Sanchez's injury was a good thing, so he could spend some time away from football to evaluate things? Doesn't sound too promising, does it?
Mustain is an entirely different beast. Consistent, strong arm, tremendous accuracy and a proven winner at the college level. He is the next great Trojan quarterback and all the wishful thinking in the world will not prevent Mustain from being the next USC starter.
Sanchez is done, you can stick a fork in him. I wish him well wherever he goes, but I know that if he decides to stay at SC after this year, he will ride the pine for the rest of his time behind Mustain.

Rick you make me laugh. Just wait. You'll see. Mustain is there to push Sanchez, but make no mistake Sanchez is the better QB in this system right now. We'll see in 2009. But for '08 the smart money is on Sanchez.

August 17, 2007 04:19 PM
Never going to happen. The smart money knows that Mustain will start in 2008 and Sanchez will transfer someplace else. Sanchez will never start for USC and that has been the consensus for quite a while, but made public relatively recently. But since you never addressed anything I said, I assume you are merely a fan without much knowledge of what is taking place at USC at the point. No shame in that. Make no mistake, Mustain is the better QB by a very long way. It will not be close.

It is not just possible, but it is now looking entirely probable that Mark Sanchez will never start a game at USC.

While there was plenty of buzz at the Patron’s Dinner about Mustain, and Mustain looked really sharp and comfortable in the offense...(the 17 yard pass to Garrett Green was awesome and the TD pass to Jordan Campbell was nice)...Mustain only threw THREE total passes the whole evening...THREE...so I would slow down a “little” on the Mustain for Heisman campaign.
That being said...Mustain was learning the play book and scrimmaging with the football team while Sanchez was exchanging T-Shirts with fans like an injured David Beckham...so in my humble opinion the “smart money” is on the healthy guy that has the cajones to transfer to USC because he likes competing with the best and thinks that he has the ability to win the starting QB job over another heralded player like Sanchez (which is precisely the reason Jimmy Clausen did not decide to go to USC...and is at Notre Dame).
Translation...baxterbob I will be happy to take your alleged “smart money" next year.

Along with all the great physical talents of a quarterback that everyone has mentioned about Mitch Mustain, let us not forget that he also went 8-0 as a true freshman starter in the SEC, the top conference of 2006, including a win over #2 Auburn. That is experience no other QB on the USC roster will have next year.

Mustain may have had only three plays, but that's all it took to score. Let's compare his stats to Sanchez's stats from last week's scrimmage:
Mustain: 3-3, 54 yards, 1 TD
Sanchez: 4-8, 29 yards, 1 INT
Who do you think did better?

Wow, good thing Pete Carroll will be the one making the decision on which QB plays next year.
Btw, DeYoung, check out Sanchez's stats from the spring scrimmage they were stellar. Oh, wait, nevermind. Scrimmage stats mean NOTHING. Esp. when you're doing mop up which is all Mitch did last night. Passing to Jordan Campbell should tell you everything you need to know as far as mop up.

Mark Sanchez 2007 Spring Football Intrasquad Scrimmage Stats (4/7/07):
11-23, -12 yards rushing, 2 TD, 2 fumbles, 2 INT
Sets a spring record with 4 turnovers
This is stellar? You probably thought I was not going to look it up, didn't you?

I'm surprised here that any true Trojan Fan would bash one of the other QBs. As I have said all along here. I wish the both of them well. I would love to see both of them equal and split time if possible.
How can any true Trojan Fan hope another does bad. I dont care if the guys is red, white, black, yellow, or brown. I as a Trojan fan only want to see the Cardinal and Gold prevail over all.

JJ:
If you are going to try to look impressive the least you can do is to spell a Spanish word correctly, OK Mr. Chango?
Do your homework before you open your chango mouth. Claussen might NOT start for ND. JC being the heralded HS QB got all the media publicity. A lot of people said that Marc Tyler was Oaks Christian better player if NOT the best athlete.
You finally admitted that you are a traitor and a hypocritical usual suspect...

Thanks DP for pointing out that I used an “a” instead of an “o”...way to be on top of all things on this Blog non-football related...as usual.
...and Mr. DP...since I attended most Oaks Christians games last year...I would be one of those “A lot of people” that said Marc Tyler is not just a better “athlete” but a better college/pro prospect than Clausen....so I don’t know what your point is....other than to be an ass... as usual.
And most college recruiters that also attended OC games last year (by the way, how many games did you go to?) also say that Tyler’s long term future (if he can stay healthy) is at linebacker, not at running back....but I am sure you already knew that too since you are all knowing.
And fact...Jimmy Clausen went to ND over USC because (unlike Mustain) he didn’t think he could beat out Sanchez (who would have a year on him) and Clausen knew that he had a better shot at the NFL (unlike his brothers) playing for a high profile program like ND (with less QB competition) and playing for a successful NFL guy like Charlie. That being said, if you really do not think that Clausen will start by at least the 2nd or 3rd game of the season...you know less about recruiting and college football than I thought.

And DP, please make up your mind already. Either:
(1) “JJ: You’re OK...” or
(2) “...(JJ) you are a traitor and a hypocritical usual suspect...”
And traitor to who? I love, defend and support MY university...and the fine people over at the USC athletic department and fellow alumni don’t go around whispering “oh there goes JJ...that traitor.”
And a “hypocrite”... seriously? A true hypocrite is someone that has called almost everyone on this website (even though many of the Bloggers on this site are Hispanic, Black, Asian, Jewish, etc.) a racist (albeit there are certain posters, see above, that could fall under this category)...and then go and call a black man (SC’03) a "chango"...which is a derogatory Spanish slur that means monkey. I am sure SC’03 would consider you a racist.
Why can’t you just understand that many people (that are Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, etc.) just believe that Mustain will beat out Sanchez...based solely on the tools that they posses on the football field?

Do you remember when you used to write (under the name El Capitan...before you became Door Prize) that using profanity “doesn't enhance the quality of one's post"?
Do you think it is hypocritical that you are now constantly writing tirades laced with profanities (in Spanish)?...or were you wrong back when you were El Capitan and were preaching to people about the language they used in their posts?

DP, How do you do?
I am not sure exactly why you are directing all of your posts at me...especially with some of the other comments that I have read... I am a 1/4 Latino, I think Sanchez is a good kid (despite the incident), I hope Sanchez stays healthy b/c the TEAM needs him as a back-up this year, and I think Sanchez is good for Mustain and Mustain is good for Sanchez because they will push one another on the football field and USC will have a great starter to fill Booty’s shoes in 2008.
However with that being said, of all people on this Blog it is extremely hypocritical that you keep calling SC’03, a black man, (and me for some unknown reason) a racial slur? Or do you think that someone is only a racist if they think Mustain is a better football player than Sanchez?
I am getting the distinct feeling by your cavalier use of the word “chango” (which for the non-Spanish speakers on this Blog is a derogatory racial slur meaning ‘monkey’) that if Sanchez were a young black man that you wouldn’t be so outraged by Mustain transferring to USC.
If you can’t simply comprehend that many USC alums and fans (that are Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, etc.) believe that Mustain will beat out Sanchez on the field...that is a YOU problem...and doesn't always require an angry, smart ass comment.
So please don’t bother writing another ignorant, venom laced response filled with CAPS and typos ending with EAT THAT... because I am done responding to your posts when you keep acting like an angry 5th grader that does not want to discuss USC FOOTBALL.

JJH4USC:
1. Chango is NOT a racial slur, educate yourself you arrogant idiot. I don't care about your interpretation. Like you said I will continue with the "cavalier" and clever use of that term.
2. I don't give a damn about "1/4 Latino".
3. When you get rid of your " changuerias" I will respect your "1/4 Latino". You have sold yourself.
4. C_jones where I come from is obscene. If you can "cavalierly" use C_jones then don't bellyache about chango. You can't have it both ways. Don't come back with your eff*ng bool$h*t. It will NOT fly.
5. One minute you are rooting for Sanchez the next minute you are in bed with Mustain and the rest of the usual suspects>knock yourself out.
6. I am curious what is your "1/4 Latino"?
Do I need my wading suit?
