Quarterback Garrett Green practiced at wide receiver this morning while Vidal Hazelton rested,
He's been our utility guy since he got here.,'' USC coach Pete Carroll said. ``With the wide receivers banged up, it was an opportunity for him to get some reps. He has such great versatility.''
Carroll also tutored the receivers after practice.
``I was just doing a catching clinic,'' he said. ``We have firm beliefs about that stuff. We have some cool things to coach them with. And we've had enough good examples to draw from.''
Wouldn't this be a good time to get him some reps at QB if Sanchez is hurt?

So let me get this straight, we have Hazelton, Turner, Patterson, Holland, RoJo, Ausberry, Carswell and the walk-on WR's and we are short already?
Baker, Radovich and Rachal are hurt?
Kevin Thomas, Will Harris and Cary Harris are hurting too? H. Dennnis and now Sanchez?
Does it ever cross any of their minds to tone the practice down a little? First day of fall drills and 1/2 the team is out already..looks like it's gonna be another injury filled year like 2005 when we had to play the Ting twins vs. Vince Young..
USC1966:
You don't get it, and you never will. You complained about this all last year, and it's getting old. It is what attracts recruits to SC in the first place -- you practice full-bore, you get to show what you can do, therefore you get a shot at moving up the depth chart. Just about every recruit is impressed by USC practices, it is probably one of the program's biggest selling points.
As for 2005, it was a depth issue. Thomas and Sartz were hurt during games, not at practices. Lofa left early. Wright -- kicked out of school. Patterson, Cody, & Groots graduated. We didn't have the depth in the secondary we have now, i.e. the Tings playing.
None of these injuries seem serious, except for Sanchez, and if he had to log significant time this year, you could kiss the NC good-bye.
I'm not one of these "In Pete We Trust" lemmings, but he has been pretty successful -- 5 BCS games in a row, down to the last game for a chance to play in the the NC game four years in a row, you really can't argue with the success he's had.
Good points USC1966. Also, this is what happens at football practice. The first couple of weeks you get everybody banged up and then worn in. They get used to the pain and suffering all over again and the callous grows as the season gets rolling. This is what happens across the country. The difference here is that competition is so high that the next play in practice can mean you playing or not, you getting scholarship money or not, the Thundering Herd winning another national Championship or not.
