Why in the world would a walk on be cut during fall practice? There has to be more to this story.

I'd imagine it's different with kickers than it may be at other spots. At WR or something like that, we may be apt to keep a Ben Malcolmson-type who has no business being on a football field, because we need bodies since playeers are getting hurt. At kicker, guys don't get hurt often, so they an extra walk-on may be cutting into the reps that a Buehler or a Houston may be getting.

USC has kickers? I thought the rules changed and you had to go for it on fourth down.....

He actually turned down a scholarship offer from another school to attend USC as a walk-on. Too bad it did not work out for him.
