Rumor Of The Day

UCLA defensive lineman Bruce Davis was greeted by eight Pac-10 coaches when he attended last week's media day. Hmmm, we'll let you guess the lone holdout.
And here we thought the Petros-Pete Carroll confrontation was the lone highlight.

oh gosh, what a faux pas. maybe pete was just scared eric scott was lurking aorund somehere and he didn't want to get shot?

In what way did the coaches "greet" him? Were Erickson, Tedford, etc. waiting in a recieving line? Was Bruce sitting in a ruby encrusted throne as Belotti bowed before him? I'm sure Pete just left his tribute in Norwalk which went missing the day before for some reason...

I'll give the benefit of the doubt to Pete here, though he is often petty about such things as this. He was the guy who told Stanford not to hire Chow and told the UCLA DC not to take the job because he couldn't make a difference there.

Dawson,

When did PC tell Stanford not to hire Chow?

PC has never held back his coaches from interviewing and accepting other positions. This is the first I'm hearing of that...

dawson...what is your basis for calling PC "often petty about such things as this"?

Where is your proof that PC "told Stanford...." and why would Stanford even listen? Why would a conference competitor give a rip about any of this stuff coming from a rival coach? Hell dawson bring some ammo and not just an empty gun!

so lets see here dawson... pete highly recommended chow as an OC to fisher but held him back on the lesser job @ stanford. it doesn't make any sense to me unless you think Pete was scared to face chow at mighty stanford. although ucla did beat SC this year walker still didn't make a difference as they were still a mediocre 7 - 6 ... oh my bad ucla's season is based on the 1 game against SC so i guess he did make a very big difference

kboftroy,

Walker did make a difference last year. The defense went from one that was ranked near the bottom in ever statistical category, to one that held USC to 9 points. Walker had those runts playing out of their asses the entire year.

Carroll recommended the guy from Pitt over Chow - this is all well known. Have you guys been living under a rock. Ask Wolfie.

Dawson is right.

I'd think Bill Walsh's recommendation carried more weight than Pete's as to who got the Stanford job.

norm didnt get the stanford because of what pete said or didnt say. Norm didnt get the job because of norm.

What's the alleged problem between Bruce Davis and Pete?

Maybe it was because USC was scheduled LAST during the press event, and Pete and JDB weren't just hanging around waiting to congratulate/shake hands with other players??

jam14 is right - Chow cannot recruit, he doesn't have the people skills necessary to convince the parents to send their son - he would rely totally on assistants - his skill is in the NFL as an xlnt coordinator and eventually as a HC.

Of course Chow isn´t cut out for recruiting at SC.
I mean he's probably not any good at lying to teenage recruits and their parents like you know who.

- Yes Mr and Mrs. Bradford. Your son is being recruited as a linebacker or strong safety. Fullback? Read my lips...Never.

- Of course we can use another TB! Our offense is so good, all of our TB's get touches. And, of course your son, and I don´t say this to anyone, will be used like Reggie Bush. And, see me after signing day about a beautiful house in San Diego.

- Young Armstead, you´ll play DE or DT or anywhere else you like, but never Offensive Tackle. Listen to me. No new taxes!

-Garrett, don't take that Texas A&M scholarship offer! You'll play QB at SC! That is...until I move you after your first practice.

You´re right. I don't see Norm Chow as being an effective recruiter at SC
