Shotgun U.

USC broke out the shotgun in practice today with a fumble on the opening snap but after that, offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian was pleased.
``I thought it was productive in third-and-long (situations),'' Sarkisian said.
Perhaps as long as the pass doesn't get tipped, the shotgun should be considered productive.

Scott,
You said that the Trojans are putting in the shotgun formation as an attempt to prevent Booty passes from being tipped. What coach said that?
Don't you think the tips are more a result of defenses purposely spying the 3-step slant and flat windows and Booty's refusal to look any one off? Also, Kiffin had a real problem with identifying how to attack the natural seams created in the man under 2 schemes often played against SC on 3rd and 7 to 12. On a positive note, the game should slow down for Booty this year and the route rec pace and adjustment will change based on new receivers and their varied release tactics.
