Stat Of The Night

Especially since I got faked out typing in previous post.
Mitch Mustain 3 for 3, 54 yards, 1 TD.
"He looked like he did against us in Arkansas," USC coach Pete Carroll said.

So maybe the kid's not all that bad after all, but I still hold out hope for Sanchez. I still say his 8-0 (or 9-0, or whatever it was) was a bit misleading.

One of those eight wins was a 27-10 win over #2 Auburn. Not too shabby, I don't think.

I think he is all I have heard he is and more.

Well, those are pretty impressive stats. I'm sold on the kid.

In Mitch We Trust!

Amen hallelujah! Mustain finally makes his Coliseum debut and it's a good one. Welcome to the Trojan Family!

OK, I am convinced by Mustain's talents now. It is consistent with what I have heard about him from practice reports that he is always on and better than Sanchez. But 2008 is a few months away, so now it is the Booty show.

This is the kind of stellar performance we have come to expect from America's Quarterback, Mitch Mustain, as he prepares to become the starter next year.

Mustain in 2008!

This is yet another stellar performance we have come to expect from America's Quarterback, Mitch Mustain, has he heads towards his destiny of becoming USC's next starting quarterback next year.

Not to be Debbie Downer or anything, but it's 3 total passes, dudes.

I was at the scrimmage at the Coliseum last night as part of the Patron's Party, which consisted of about 350-450 influential alumni that were being wined and dined by the athletic department. The general curiosity among the guests for Mitch Mustain turned into being completely impressed. Everyone just talked about young Mr Mustain and his fabulous performance.

Mr Mustain is the future of the USC football program and never was there a better time for him to put on such an impressive performance as last night for the Patron's Party. Simply stunning! I cannot say enough how everyone in attendance was impressed by him. I want to thank Coach Carroll for bring this young man to USC. We all now expect great things from him next year when he gets to start for the Trojans. He is a Heisman Trophy caliber player and I am proud to say that I saw his debut as a Trojan in person.

Fight On!

The Patron’s Dinner and Scrimmage were great last night. A lot of talk in the press box about Mustain and Moody’s transfer. Carroll gave a great speech to the alumni about what to look for this year. He was very high on Washington and S. Johnson, and said that he was very impressed with McNight and Green’s play in practice. He likes Turner and said right now Ausberry is the No. 2 guy. And he seemed to glow when he talked about how good the D is going to be.

Also, it was nice to see and talk to Tim Floyd last night who was very comfortable schmoozing with the alums.

...I watched the scrimmage from the opposing team’s sideline and couldn’t believe how big and fast some of these kids are (even the freshmen). This team has a ridiculous amount of talent. I know I am pretty much regurgitating a lot of what Scott posted but here are my impressions:

QB’s: Booty looked fine, McDonald was pretty dreadful, Corp looked very shaky, and Mustain looked sharp...for the three plays he was in for (the pass to G. Green was really nice). But I really hope Sanchez gets healthy b/c McDonald is a terrible No. 2...and Corp doesn’t look ready...yet.

Backs: I am not a Chauncey Washington guy...but he slimmed down a lot and looks ridiculously fast...he returned a kick right down the sideline in front of us for a TD and turned a lot of defenders’ ankles! Green is a human bowling ball, and Havili looked good from the little I saw. Bradford was pretty good and Johnson looked okay.

Receivers: Turner looks like the second coming of Mike Williams (the college Mike Williams)...and is going to be an absolute nightmare for teams to defend. Ausberry is also another big guy, but didn’t do much. Fred Davis looked fantastic, and G. Green looked really good. RoJo made a nice catch too. Unfortunately the most I saw of Hazelton, Holland, and Patterson (and Marc Tyler) was a friendly game of catch in front of me at the half of the scrimmage (Hazelton has a good arm).

I can’t say enough about how good the First Team D looks. They are big, mean and quick...especially the linebackers. It is going to be hard to score on USC this year!

Okay that is my 2 cents...for what it is worth.

Fight On, Mitch!

I knew Mitch Mustain was excellent and this just shows the difference between him and the other QBs on the roster in the last two scrimmages. I am completely convinced now that he is our next starter and I look forward to seeing him lead the Cardinal & Gold next year.

Fight on!!!!

I was also at the Patron's Dinner. Not only was that the best dinner I have ever had at an SC athletic event (not too difficult if you have ever been to any pre-game lunches!), but the enthusiasm I saw displayed for Mitch Mustain among the alumni was infectious. I am so excited by this boy, I can hardly contain myself today.
Mitch is very consistent and has the best arm I have seen in a long time. He is fast and reads defenses as well as any QB I have ever seen at the college level.
I made some new alumni friends last night and we all saw that the Trojans are in great hands next year when Mitch starts for us. To see him an entire year before the rest of the country sees him make his debut for USC was quite a thrill for all the alumni in attendance.
Pete Carroll was as enthusiastic and gracious as ever to all the alumni at the dinner and I now see what he saw when he recruited Mitch several months ago. A talent like this comes along once in a generation and I am so enthused he chose to become a Trojan.
The Trojan football program is in great hands next year with Pete Carroll and Mitch Mustain leading us. We should all be very proud of what lies ahead for us and enjoy these glory days while we can.
If you can make it to the public scrimmage next week, do yourself a favor and go see Mitch a year before he can play in a game. You will not be disappointed.

Aaron Corp is a very good quarterback, but needs time to develop into a college player. He simply is not ready yet for this level, but will be very good in time. Mitch Mustain is ready and will beat out Sanchez for the starting job in 2008, while Aaron will be No. 2, with the general assumption that Sanchez will have transferred out in a few months.

I actually know Michael McDonald from his time at Newport Harbor, which is in my hometown, and while he was a decent high school quarterback, you should realize that he is a walk-on and not a highly talented and developed player like Booty or Mustain. So don't be too hard on him, he is doing the best he can, but is simply out of his league as a PAC-10 quarterback. Solid young man, though.

Thanks to Scott and everyone else who was at the scrimmage for reporting what they saw. It simply reiterates everything I have seen for myself and heard from those within USC about Mitch Mustain. He came to USC to start and that is what he will end up doing in 2008. He is just that good.

Greetings Trojan fans from Arkansas, where moron head coaches run off 5 star QB's.

What you are seeing in Mitch Mustain is what all of us saw here. Mitch has an enormous ammount of talent and drive. He was the Gatorade POY as well as the Parade POY while at the helm of the Springdale (AR) offense. In his first drive as QB at AR, Mitch drove the team straight down the field on USC for a TD, I'm sure you remember. That's the kind of player you're getting. Mitch is one of if not THE best quarterback to come out of Arkansas.

We had him but our silly (and I do mean silly) head coach's ego couldn't handle this kid getting all the attention so he shut him down from the sideline. Mitch was handcuffed and not allowed to be himself on the field. Make no mistake, the reason Mitch isn't a Razorback is because our stupid head coach ran him off to protect his own ego. What you are seeing now is Mitch Mustain unleashed!

It breaks my heart that my home state couldn't keep this young man (that goes for Damian Williams and Broderick Green as well) but I am thrilled to know Mitch (and the others) will find success in your program.

As far as this year goes, I hope you guys end up playing LSU for the NC in NO and whip them like yard dogs in front of their own crowd!

By the way, what's it like having a real coach?

MustainFaninArkansas Author Profile Page said:

USC has them a fantastic QB, as another Arkansasan pointed out, we lost him because our head coach is a head case. He could not stand the fact that this young was the real deal and he did everything in his power to run him off. Mitch should not have signed with Nutt, nor should any QB that can get a scholarship to a real team.

I plan on Seeing the Trojans play anytime they get within 15 hours of me. Fight on

Mustain is not even close to being the best QB in Arkansas. The big mistake Arkansas made was not landing Kodi Burns (Auburn) instead of Mitch. I dont know who the idiot claiming to be a Razorback fan is above, but he is delusional. Mustain was not getting the job done, got benched, then quit. Its that simple. With the supporting cast USC has to offer he should play well enough to eventually get some starts, but i wouldn't get too excited just yet. If he doesn't get his way, watch out for the wrath of mamma. After all, these are superstars we are dealing with here.

Don't listen to the guy above; he is likely someone from the Nutt camp who is just as jealous of Mustain as Nutt is himself. Besides, it appears that he doesn't even know how to comment on this site -- what is that jumbled mess of a comment? Anyway, I followed Mustain throughout his high school career, watching several games in person, and this kid is the REAL DEAL! Even playing in an offensive system in which a QB is bound to fail, Mustain displayed poise in the pocket and delivered many excellent passes. This all while the majority of practices were spent run-polishing and practicing the Wildcat (you've likely heard of it), while spending a very limited amount of time practicing timing b/t the QBs and WRs. Mustain is also a kid of highest character off the field, so you guys should come to like him quickly. Take care of one of Arkansas' own sons!
