Strange Choice

Tailback Emmanuel Moody's choice of Florida is curious and not just because it's hard to imagine he will be the Gators' featured back. Moody's pass-catching and blocking were not his strengths at USC and those are important talents in a spread offense.

Yeah exactly what I was thinking Scott...if he wanted to go somewhere to be "The featured back" and carry the team and have like 40 touches a game...Florida is not the place. They have a larger stockpile of talent that we do. His ego is really showing here...he made sure he went to a team that also contends for the NC. So? He will sit on the bench and complain in Florida now..

jkenun said:

I second that. Moody would have been better of in a Big 12 school. Not to mention that those SEC fans can sometimes be real tough on their athletes...remember Chris Leak? I bet u some of them disliked him for reasons other than his performance on the field.

You have to wonder what type of influence Emmanuel's Uncle has over him. USC1966 said it, Florida like SC is loaded, so his fight to be the featured back only continues. I think that Florida is the wrong choice for him and I wonder how much of this is really his Uncles doing(?). I wish the kid well, but I have to wonder if this is going to be his last "college stop"? Fight On!

I think he made a good choice.

Despite the fact that Florida won the NC last year, I couldn't tell you who their RB is. He'll get good playing time there.

matthew said:

Their RB is a kid named Tim Tebow.

Petingtong said:

Matthew is right. Tim Tebow was their best rusher last year.

A few more points as to why I think Moody will be good at UF and why Wolf's observations may not be detractors for Moody at UF:

1) When did SC ever pass to Moody in a game? Zero times. That part was completely absent from the play calling last year. So it's not like we really know if Moody has good hands or not.

2) Blocking is something that players get better at with time as they get stronger and more experienced. Moody was a true freshman last year. It's not like Reggie Bush was an awesome blocker his first year, either. Moody will get better at that.

Moody definitely ripped Kiffin/Sarkisian's playcalling in a quote I saw.
Something about UF "knowing how to get their playmakers the ball."

Maybe Moody will get to face the #1's on USC's defense in the next few years...

Maybe he chose Florida because he wanted a good education.

Makes you wonder if there was some under the table hanky panky tampering done by Florida. For Moody and Holland to eventually want to go to Florida. The fact that Holland's High school coach is now at Florida.

DallasTrojan said:

I concur with Scott. Why Florida? He could have had a chance to be a featured back at his other option, UNC.

Some Florida writers have suggested that this is starting a dangerous precedent - skill position players defecting from SC to UF. Well, if SC continues to attract the 3 of the top 10 RBs and WRs each & every year, and, for example, the #4 RB and #5 WR after fall camp want to leave for Florida, Texas, or Ohio State so we can free up scholarships for potential future #1 - 3 players at the respective positions, all the better. It takes a special kid to fight through the logjam and actually play at SC. If the disgruntled kids who feel entitled and yet don't start want to move to a different program rather than paying their dues and fighting the good fight, it's nothing but good for SC in my mind. Bloodletting.

Despite suggestions to the contrary, I think you have to be hyper-sensitive to believe that "they get their playmakers the ball" is a dig at PC. It's just a sports cliche, it means nothing except for cheap brownie points from Gator fans. "That's right, we get our playmakers the ball, woooo!"

Still, Scott has a decent point, Moody can't block and does not have very good hands. But he ultimately made a good decision. With the injury he was going to slide farther down the SC depth chart. With sitting out a season he can get healthy for the start of spring practice. UF isn't loaded with RB's, despite statements otherwise.

That said, I'm not sure how Urban is going to handle Uncle Mike. If he got on PC's nerves, imagine how UM will react.

One, is SC blocking Moody's move to UF because of the high school football connection or is that Jamere Holland?

Two, LOL @ BoscoH! Doesn't everyone go to UF for the education?

RBs leaving should be SC's last worry since we have many here and more in waiting. What I am worried about is the O-Line. Scott, can you get us more news on how they are doing? Where is Byers at? Thanks for the update on O-Dowd too.

I agree with EloiPfeiffer, it does take a special kind of kid to wait it out and compete with the best of the best. Look at Stafon Johnson. He came here with all the hype and accolades and wanted to walk through practice. Pete responded by sitting him on the bench. Now it appears he has his sh!t, er, act together and is primed for a breakout season. SJ's setbacks will do nothing but help him in the long run (I hope) and will not only make him a better football player, but a better man as well.
I'm looking forward to seeing our second string by the second half kickoff of the Idaho game. I just hope the starters get enough PT to knock the rust off by the Nebraska game. They (Neb) play twice before the big matchup, so they'll have plenty of time to gear up for us.
Fight on!

PC is not blocking Moody going to Florida. Holland is being blocked because his old coach is on the UF staff.

He should've transferred to UCLA, then he could've been the #1 back on L.A.'s perennial second-best college football team. Plus, UCLA's staff can tell you how to get arrested and convicted for serious crimes, and still keep your job as an assistant coach in charge of molding the lives of young men.

Has anybody else noticed the diminished pro-UCLA, 13-9 and cheat-on trolls on this site? I find it telling a conviction among their coaching staff and the prospect of USC's impending redemption for last year's 13-9 aberration can drive off these cowards.

Weird, I was thinking the same thing. Whatever the cause, 4 days left untill the greatest day of the year. Good luck Trojans. I still have burning hate, and my fingers dissolve as I type this but I want to see two undefeated LA schools vying for that spot in the NC Game on Dec. 1. You all took a vast amount of hell this year and some well deserved but most, from me at least, was excessive. In short, I apolgize, yet I will still end, Go Bruins.

I apologize in advance for the people who are going to blast you for your comment.
See'ya in December.

Bosco I only hope you were joking...if not, check the us news and world report of academic rankings..the SEC is at the bottom..Florida, Mississippi, LSU, et al, are glorified JUCO's. You can graduate from Georgia with 90 credits!! You can't even do that from Eastern Michigan university!! hahaha

Articulate and gracious (although noticeably less frequent) posts this month by miguelito, ReelBruin, 100 NCAA Titles and now BruinChamp...is the world coming to an end?...or is 13-9 smack starting to fade away with the looming ‘07 season upon us?

Whatever the case may be, I wish you and your Bruins luck BruinChamp! I too would rather see an undefeated UCLA team walk into the Coliseum on December 1st. In addition to USC getting a little revenge, SC could also dash any myopic Bruin National Title hopes while potentially strengthening its National Championship Game resume (if that is possible to do by beating UCLA)!

Bruinchamp: what's that other "undefeated" LA school that you're imagining? You know we're talking about football programs, not table tennis.

Florida #49

Bosco was either being sarcastic or is a UF alum/USC hater. If Moody chose Florida because of "education", he DOES have problems with logical thinking.
