Urban Warfare?

Did Florida coach Urban Meyer take Emmanuel Moody in any way to try and one-up USC coach Pete Carroll? That theory was advanced to me by a Florida source.
Meyer was unhappy when USC beat out the Gators for freshman wide receiver Ronald Johnson. And the Trojans were displeased when Florida got offensive lineman James Wilson to decommit from USC. Meyer also hired former Taft High School coach Troy Starr, which gives the Gators more connections in Southern California.
Taking Moody gave Florida another player USC wanted. And it only required one day of recruiting.

Scott,

Any comment on the Todd McNair stories floating around about the conviction for cruelty to animals?

Pete could have denied Moody's transfer to Florida just like he did with Holland. So, I don't think Meyer one upped Pete. Meyer was recruiting current USC players which is against the NCAA rules. Eventually, he will get caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Pete sent a warning with Holland. I hope Moody enjoys sharing 15 carries a game with the other tailbacks at Florida next year.

I don't know about the rest of you but I am all for Florida taking our cast offs. It's a great scenario for USC. We get rid of a malcontent that isn't going to be a featured player and open up a scholarship for the another big-time recruit. I trust PC that if Moody wasn't going to be the man at SC it's cause he's hasn't earned it. I don't want entitlements here at SC.

I am with huntingtonharvey...let Florida (or UNLV) take all of the malcontent, less talented castoffs that can’t cut it with the talented competition at USC.

Moody is so injury-prone, who knows if he'll ever get significant playing time at Florida.

hey Bruin57...

any comment on the fact you still have a coach with four priors?

any comment on Justin Medlock leaving the scene of a hit and run?

any comment on Sam Gilbert financing your national titles?

Must read: FightinGators.com, "Moody Joins the Gators", 8/27/07. Troy Starr was accused of recruiting players from other high schools, when he was at Taft. Let malcontents transfer to any school they want. If they were not good enough to play for USC, how can they come back to hurt you? Were there any backroom conversations, regarding the Arkansas kids, coming to USC? Don't forget Fargas, Tatupu, Rucker, etc. Also, Brandon Hance, Taft HS. Transferring will always be a part of CFB.

OK Scott, I know I always put more than 1 Q.

OK here is my ONE question:

What is happening to Vidal Hazelton? I don't even see his name mentioned anymore. Just Ausberry and Johnson and Patterson. Has he fallen out of the starter role?

Just checking as he would definately be another one to bolt some place else....

hey JT

For the stuff you guys all dished out about that coach with priors, we all just were wondering if this worked both ways. Not critizing SC, but DID they know about the priors? Trojan fans condemned Guerrero and KD for not knowing about Scott's. Then I hope you all are sending your letters of outrage to Garrett since Coach Carroll admitted in the Times that HE didn't know about McNair's until a week ago.

Are we consistent or is this a case of do what we say, not what we do?

In other late-breaking news, Bruins Nation is reporting that baseball legend Babe Ruth once frequented brothels and playes, on occasion, drunk and hungover. Nestor is demanding that the New York Yankees unretire Ruth's number, strike any mention of him from their records, and is requesting that everyone call the Commissioner's office to demand that Ruth be removed from the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Bruin57: you want to know about cruelty to animals? Wait til SC gets hold of your whiney ass ruins.

Bruce Author Profile Page said:

Actually Bruins57, while most of us were entertained at the situation Eric Scott put himself in, we also didn't really care because with or without him ucla is still just ucla and not muich of a factor in SCs recruiting battles. We don't waste much time worrying about your program except for one week a year.

If McNair was recently found in the proximity to a dogfight and arrested similar to Coach Scott's proximity to the burglary of a house with a significant amount of drugs and a firearm, then I probably would support his dismissal because he hasn't learned any lessons from his convictions. But Coach McNair has been out of trouble for 14 years, can Scott say the same?

Scott was cleared of the latest charges. So using your reasoning, it's over...

you seem to believe double standards are wrong. Good for you. Curious if your bretheren share that view...

and to Mike...man you got me there...I guess we'll just have to back down because Mike has said its so. Very witty comeback.

Also glad to see the seriousness of the cruelty to animals issue in your eyes...as Borat would say...NICE....

Scott was not cleared of the charges in the sense that he was determined to be innocent. The victim just refused to testify. Big difference. Ask the neighbor who watched them break in and take things from the house.

It's off topic, but Marinovich got busted (again) with meth in his guitar case, according to TMZ. What a shame.

Bruin 57,

1. Stop using Scott to do the work your beat writers should be doing. UCLA has it's own blog where you can ask questions like this. Oh that's right, no one actually visits it.

2. If these rumors are true then McNair should pay the price like anyone else.

3. Mike's post was actually pretty funny. Last year was a rebuilding year for USC (you don't lose 2 Heisman winners and 3 stars at your 2 key offensive positions and not miss a beat. I don't care what Pete tried to make us think). UCLA caught USC at the right time and the right place. Won't be a repeat this year. The Bruins will get seriously mauled this year at the Coliseum. I'd recommend you watch from home. It will be UGLY.

if Meyer is doing something illegal why doesn't PC report it to the NCAA?

Bruin57 Author Profile Page said:

Tyler I am surprised...

let me explain the concept...If you have questions on USC football, you should ask the USC beat reporter, not the UCLA beat reporter. Since the report was about a USC asst. coach, Mr. Wolf would be the more likely beat reporter to care.

BTW, glad to hear you stand up for decency regarding any transgressions. Just for the record, Mr. McNair should have the right to coach for your school. Many were just surprised that USC and Coach Carroll seemed to have no idea.

And since many of the Trojan Faithful condemned UCLA for allowing a person with 2 misdemeanor convictions to be an asst. coach, we all wondered if they felt the same way if it the offender happened to be a Trojan. Props to you for walking the walk.

If a "male" cheerleader at UCLA drops a female cheerleader during a routine, will he get arrested for cruelty to dogs too?

I mean damn, have you seen them lately?

why don't you cry us a river about all the poor stuff Eric Scott had to go through during this whole ordeal...I know UCLA fans were heartbroken over the poor treatment he received...

if you hate USC and the program so much, why is it that you and the other 'Ruin fans show up on a daily basis on this website?...

no need to get upset because 99 of your so called 100 titles are in sports other than football..

enjoy your 50 K fans again at the Rose Bowl....

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
