Booty On Booty
Quarterback John David Booty claimed he did not care he passed for just 350 yards in USC’s first two games. Last year Booty passed for 518 yards after two games and that was with less plays because of rules that made games run faster.
``It doesn’t matter. If we’re winning, I’m tickled to death,’’ Booty said. ``To get invited to New York (for the Heisman Trophy ceremony) would be something special but I’m not basing my career on an award.
``The first game against Idaho, I don’t think I did too good, but I was just out of the gate,’’ Booty said. ``But Nebraska, I did pretty well.’’
Booty said teams must respect the pass and run this season after USC rushed for 313 yards against Nebraska and said last year teams probably focused solely on him, notably against UCLA.
``I’m sure at times I was because defenses were more focused on Dwayne (Jarrett) and Steve (Smith),’’ he said. ``This year we have both (running and passing).’’

Booty didn't win the Heisman in his first two games, but he didn't lose it either. USC is 2-0 and he has completed over 65% of his passes. That continues, SC runs the table, all they guy needs in stats is 3500 yards passing, 30 TD's and a better than 2 to 1 TD/INT ratio.
Conversely, Colt Brennan needs for the Rainbow Warriors to run the table, and he needs to put up some gawdy numbers, like 6,000 yards and 60 TD's.

That is what most players say once they realize all the hype isn't true and that they really can't cut it.

JDB couldn't be more right.
USC's lack of running game last year almost got him killed. UCLA noticed it and exploited it. They put 8 in the box, got physical with DJ (one of his glaring weaknesses) and that was that. Chauncey and CJ didn't do squat in that game - as a result there was no play action to be had. Booty looked in that game how Jimmy Clausen looks now that ND is going through the same problems.
Apparently the only people buying into the JDB for Heisman are those in the media that keep mentioning it. JDB has a good head on his shoulders.
Go away Bill. Who gives a damn about hype. Maybe Botty knows he isn't Heisman material. No one on UCLA's squad is either.

Casey Dick (the guy that Mustain couldn't beat out) has a better shot of winning the Heisman!
Bring on Sanchez!!

Sure Booty might not be as talented as Palmer or Leinart, but the last time I checked Booty’s resume, he is 13-2 as a starter (and was 2 tipped balls away from being 15-0), has beaten Arkansas, Nebraska (twice), Cal, and Notre Dame, led USC to a Pac 10 Championship last year, won the BCS Rose Bowl Game by dissecting Michigan’s secondary, still remains a Hesiman Trophy candidate this year, and is the QB for the No. 1 team in the country...did I miss something?...or is Bill just venting because of 44-6?

What a guy. To think he came all the way from Weeziana to the big time in Los Angeles and has kept humble and focussed. Good on Booty.

bill,
44-6? 44-6? against a 0-2 team with a back-up QB and missing 4 other key starters? no touchdowns and 5 turnovers by your pathetic offense? humiliation on a national scale? are you f*cking kidding me?
get lost loser!

Bill-
I liked Coach Dorrell's quote in his weekly press conference.
"People thought we were better than we are."
Says it all!

Pretty mature assessment... I suspect JDB is a bit more critical on himself than we know...
