We hear Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen actually wanted to redshirt this season especially following offseason elbow surgery. It was a better alternative than being a sacrificial lamb and taking a beating with a woeful offensive line.

This is just what the kid needed...to be thrown into the deep end after getting babied for four years at Oaks Christian.
If he survives this season, next year he will be a man, because Notre Dame can't get any worse. And he'll play much better as a result of the lumps he took this year.
I actually don't think he's played bad this year. ND just has no playmakers, but Jimmy gets the ball where he is supposed to...that's all you can ask of a QB.

I'm not buying it. I dont think ND redshirts anyone. Clausen's dad is not beyond trying to manipulate the system ,however, and may have held back telling Weis about the elbow issue so he be more likely to get the rare redshirt.

Notre Dame will allow freshmen to medical redshirt.

Clausen will pick apart the USC secondary if given time. Trojans may need a reprise of the late game heroics to get a W in South Bend on 10/20.

Jimmy’s already a 20 year old freshman, and he enrolled in the spring to get a jump start on the season. What other advantages does he need? At his rate he’ll be in a wheel-chair before he graduates.

Gotta love the big balls of those domers, though they might need some viagra. Like Jimmy talking about winning 4 NC’s and Mr. DoubleButt promising no more losses to Michigan State after their flag-planting ceremony in ’05. And the failed genius talking about “owning” Pete Carroll.

Wonder if Crist is starting to think logically about not boarding that sinking ship. Or at lease bring along a case of limes for the trip.

Trojan&Tonic: have you been hitting the Gin&Tonic? Clausen will 'pick apart" SC? Have you watched either team this year in any state nearing sobriety? If "given time" anyone can do anything. the German army would have beaten Allies "given time." The point is, there won't be any: time or saving the arrogant Domers from the folly of handing a fat loudmouth a huge 10-year contract. Live with it, Domers.

Sure, if "given time" anyone can do virtually anything. The German army would have beaten the Allies "given time." The point is, there won't be any: time or saving the arrogant Domers from the folly of handing a fat, loudmouth with no head coaching experience a huge 10-year contract. Live with it, Domers.

Jimmy Clausen did not graduate from high school early so he could redshirt. He planned on being the starter this whole time. Its just the Clausen way of spinning their sorry season.

By the way, good article by Ramona Shelburne pointing out Crist may be better than Clausen.

The Clausen family may go down as the most overrated football family. So much for being the next Mannings. They aren't even the next Papadakis'!

Clausen is a 20 year old freshman, how did that happen?

He said when he signed that he wanted to win 4 championships in 4 years not 4 in 5. Unless he planned on redshirting and graduating when he was 30 he expected to play this year.

Charlie Weis promised him the starting gig when he recruited him. That much is clear. Why else would D. Jones leave less than a week after getting benched unless he knew there was no way he could play himself back into the starting rotation?

T&T:
You need a cerebral shunt:
Brady Quinn could NOT do it and he had skilled players. You are out of your mind if you think JC can. Please, that statement will prompt anybody to question your college football knowledge. Just before the NC between USC and UT a guy that graduated from ECU(NC) irritated the hell out of me when he said that the PAC-10 "sucks". His school biggest bowl was the Peach Bowl back in '93. I just gave him a dirty look rather than give him a taste of my 180 pounds. Please think before you make a fool out of yourself with such rhetoric.
Thank you
