Let's Discuss

I'll start a post-game discussion with a word about USC's second quarter: Embarassing. At least the first-and-third quarters were better.

Never in doubt, yet the performance was so overall underwhelming that it didn't really feel like a win. Flashes of brilliance but so sloppy that if we play like that at Nebraska we will lose big.

The guys need to take care of business everyday, no matter who we play. Look at Oregon State and UCLA last year...and tougher than expected games against several others. Every team is going to play their best game of the season against us and playing this flat against a PAC-10 opponent will spell doom.

Agreed, Stafon was the highlight (and David Buehler was strong on kickoffs). Otherwise, New Rule: no more non-BCS opponents. There's no way to keep USC-caliber kids focused for an Idaho, and no upside to taking them out when you do.

Thought Dorrell's bruins were dull, this was a pretty lame excuse for a #1 ranked team. Hoping the play calling was under wraps for this type of opponent so not to show anything for Nebraska to see on film. Looks like they left their game on the practice field. Even the defense was only adequate, the one turnover was a fluke play. No sacks of the 1st string Qb. Anyone else believe that the intense practice competition might be causing most of these injuries?

We took Idaho for granted and it showed. Glorified scrimmage was an apt description.

Overall, the game plan seemed to be to keep it simple so as not to show Nebraska any looks on the game film.

A win's a win but it's hard to see scores from ASU, Nebraska, Oklahoma and other Pac 10/big team blowouts and not wonder a bit...

Just have to remember that Pete lets the hype machine do its own thing so he can work the magic on the field.

Fight on!

So what is the award for closest prediction to the actual score in previous thread? I remember saying 42-9. All kneel in front of BoscoH.

Trojan_JP Author Profile Page said:

I don't think we needed to blow them out, it wouldn't have proven anything other than we were the better team.

Instead we learned somethings about ourselves, basically it was a live scrimmaged against another team.

Reelbruin: Irrelevant. We didn't play UCLA or Cal. Trust me, would have been a different game entirely.

Frankly one of the most disappointing displays I have witnessed from SC in the past 5 years. They were going through the motions for the entire first half. SJ looked good and so did CJ. JDB looked horrible and the receiving corps completely uninspiring. Ok the catch by VH was good. If they do this type of walk through again against Neb they are toast and so is the season.

Trojan&Tonic Author Profile Page said:

You guys are really overreacting. SC did not need to drop 70 or 80 points on Idaho. As soon as it was 21-0 the game was over and in the win column. Both Offense and Defense were using basic and vanilla plays. PC was shuffling personel in & out for experience. Any flatness was probably caused by either looking past Idaho or due to the emotional, Mario Danelo tribute before the game. Cal had a revenge game vs. TENN and UCLA had an actual PAC 10 opener and much to prove after their Emerald Bowl abortion. Stanford is not much better than Idaho anyways..

By the looks of it, it seems that the new look 2007 Trojans is a redux of the 2006 Trojans.

The defense was of incapable of sacking the quarterback, the secondary seemed lost at times in coverage, the linebackers overpursued on some missed tackles, the defense was unable to force turnovers off tackles and interceptions, and I haven't even begun to talk about Booty.

The so-called heir apparent to Leinart and Palmer looked to be in mid-season form-overthrowing, throwing behind his intended receivers, not looking off the defensive secondary, missing defensive reads, and looking flustered under the pocket under the slightest pressure. And this guy is a Heismann candidate? PLEASE!!!

This was freakin' Idaho folks! Idaho!! Imagine what we're up against in two weeks when we have to travel to Lincoln, Nebraska.

Overall, an uninspiring, and pathetic performance by the team in general to say the least.

ReelBruin is right again!

College football is full of "would of", "could of", & "should of". Maybe USC should just forfeit our games vs. UCLA & CAL because of the "would have" speculation of a bitter, bitter man. No such luck there Reel. I think we'll do it the old fashioned way and play those games to determine the outcome.

Gotta get back to defending my client again.

It is understandable that SC had a low-key game against Idaho, but despite that, who would have predicted only 2 receptions of 20 plus yards, and that Idaho covered SC receivers extremely well on almost every pass?

Reelbruin: that's a stupid statment because it's not like they are going to play that disinterested vs. ULCA or CAL.

but, I really don't know what to say about that mess. I am always told their scrimmages are "up tempo" and here in a glorified scrimmage they act like they aren't even there. They were substituting in the first quarter! they could of lost the game that way! sloppy execution players who didn't care. Idaho was winning the line of scrimmage battle most of the second half. Cushing and Pinkard get hurt.

The only thing I liked was better, reggie bush type play calling by Sark.

Carroll has his work cut out for him...

also..don't get too angry it could be worse look at notre dame!! haha! that team is a disaster and I am loving it!

Idaho was a no-win proposition. Blame Garrett for scheduling CSU, who after getting spanked 49-0 in '04, renegged on the follow-up game. Idaho was the unfortunate, last-minute victim/replacement. Maybe a lesson learned with BC and Syracuse as future opponents? Would have preferred West Virginia, Miami or Louisville. But what the heck, still gotta play what they put before you.

I know I get down on them sometimes so maybe it's just me but...didn't JDB look awful? I mean, terrible INT vs. Idaho?? ouch..he missed alot of passes downfield. I had been hearing he is now the second coming of John Elway and blah blah..and he is struggling a little vs. Idaho. I agree with wolfie the seconday was way too loose also..

well I am sure PC will get the ship righted by Nebraska time..

Remember when Scott posted the comments of an NFL scout who said that SC's strengths were
1.)size
2.)linebackers and
3.)backfield depth
and that the weaknesses were
1.)cornerbacks
2.)speed at WR and
3.)that that the DL was adequate.

And everyone went nuts.

After last night's game, I'd have to say he's spot on about everything, especially as to the weaknesses. Our corners are average at best, our receivers don't stretch the field and the DL is adequate enough on the run but can't pressure the QB without resorting to blitzes.

And notice how the scout was mum on Booty. He's good, but he doesn't have the receivers he had last year, and he's still going to make the bad throw at the worst possible time. He'll post good numbers but in this system, any pro-style QB will do the same. And he will be booed again.

The good news is that ND is very, very bad and we get UCLA at home and, for the first time in years, they don't have a week off before playing us.

Play calling seems a little better. On 4th down SS called passes! And the dreaded dump out to the WR in the flat that cost us two games last year (OSU and UCLA) is hopefully gone.

The bad news is JDB is a notch down from Palmer and Leinart and we don't have a Reggie Bush to bail him out, so we lose at least once this year. I say either to UW (this season's OSU game) and/or Cal.

I'll tell you what the bad news is.

The bad news is you don't get a chance to shore up those problems before you have to travel to Lincoln, Nebraska where everyone is just chomping at the bit to pulverize you and take what's rightfully theirs back.

Nebraska has a national-championship-caliber team and they are going to blow you out on national television. Mark my words.

USC1966 Author Profile Page said:

13-9-4-IDIOT are you going be here in 2 weeks after USC wins? Or are you going to be a typical UCLA fan and post your unoriginal hate and then run?

Nevermind I think I already know the answer to that. :o))

Good post by Desmo. Scott's "scout" appears to be somewhat right, at least. Our CB's allowed alot of passes. Cary Harris seemed to be 15 yards off the WR every play. I hope Pinkard plays vs. Nebraska. And yeah, I was hoping for at least 1 sack, from LoJack or Everson. Hmmmm....

And yeah again, Booty left me with some questions. INT vs Idaho? OUCH..He just seems to go stupid sometimes and make bad decisions. He obviously did not see the Safety who got the pick at all and/or did not anticipate him. That needs to be improved.

But the play calling was awesome and Stafon is a monster and when they were trying, damn they looked good. I think Nebraska is in trouble...hehe

BIG kudo to Wolfie...he had an update on Cushings injury posted like 5 minutes after it happened..

Say what 13-9-4life? What is the basis for your "natl champ caliber ranking of Nebraska?
The #20 AP ranking?
The quitter QB?
The Marlon Lucky's whopping 27 rushing yards which was just part of the massive 211 total yds the Cornholers put on us....mainly in the 4th qtr against the scrubs last yr?
The play "not to lose" mentality of Raider Callahan?
What you don't get is that if you notice when SC plays a major out of conference team...we always dominate those games... in recent years..Auburn twice, Arkansas twice, Okla, Michigan many times,Iowa. OK we handed Texas that Rose Bowl but the rest is what it is.
Just tell us what the hell signify's you statement to the national caliber status you give to a team that is not even favored to win it's own conference? A weak conference at that!

It's amazing what a year in an offensive system will do for you Goliathtrojan. Unfortunately for USC, they are going to find out the hard way that Nebraska is a real contender this season.

You're playing in Lincoln, NE in a night game on national television. Believe me when I tell you that nothing USC has seen in the past will compare to this atmosphere. USC is going to GET JACKED UP LIKE REGGIE BUSH IN THE PLAYOFFS. It's going to be a program-changing destruction that will guarantee Pete Carroll's departure to the NFL after the season, where he will promptly lay another egg for whatever franchise is disillusioned enough to hire him.

Do you hear that sound Goliathtrojan? You hear that rumble? That's not an earthquake...that's the sound of a "dynasty" crumbling.

13-9-4..ok loser..wish in one hand and poop in the other, and see which one fills up first..

That is definitely the funniest post on here! You SC haters have been saying for the last several years... but I am going to disagree...60-6 since 2002 and ranked No.1 in the country today...I think that rumble you hear are the Trojans tuning up this season for another December 1st blowout of the Bruins ala 2005...the last time UCLA supposedly had a “great” team.
