Observation Time

It seems obvious Stafon Johnson needs to get more carries, with 105 yards in nine carries, except to those who make the decisions.
One thing did happen off camera in the second quarter. Pete Carroll ran down the sideline and pulled Johnson off the field because the sophomore was gesturing to the crowd following Washington’s second touchdown. He was worried USC might get a penalty.

he's head over heels over any USC back

more carries and less throws for Booty-he looks terrible today

C'mon Scott! I like you but you whine about Gable not getting carries but then whine about Stafon not getting enough carries. There's only one ball!!! When Stafon and Gable both get 20 carries each, you'll whine about Booty not getting enough throws or Washington not getting more carries.

No. Big. Deal.

Stafon be da man!!

Horrible pas interference calls, especially on Taylor Mays.

Ladies and gentlemen, your Pac 10 referees.

we look awful...refs are bad, but we are worse

John David Booty, please come to the reservations desk. Your Heisman ticket has been cancelled.

haha no kidding desmo

I say put sanchez in it can't get any worse

this is the worst performance from a PC coached USC team I have ever seen if washington had half a team we would be losing by 10 points right now

you can kiss the #1 ranking goodbye

27-17, the game is finally in the bag. Whew! SC could not have liked the conditions-- rain and wind, which obviously affected Booty. And over 150 yards in penalties, and the turnovers. Recall the fumble by the Washington return man near the 50 with about 5 minutes to go, so SC could have lost this game. Florida lost. So there are no great teams out there, and thus we should be thankful for a win, even if it was an ugly win.

from what I saw today they will lose at least 3 games this year

UCLA
Cal
Oregon

if not more

no way we can predict that...im sure we'll beat fucla.

but JDB getting rattled so easily again is not a good sign, and the secondary is in bad shape. Yeah some of those calls didn't seem right, but even Mays looked bad.

Relax 66. Did you see how well our defense played? Most of the offensive line penalties were on the replacements for the injured guys. It will get worked out. Not saying we won't lose once, but no way three times. Take a breath.

What a sloppy game by us and the officials in a few cases too.

I think Chauncey is the right choice for the bulk of the carries because he punishes the defense more. Although Johnson has a great feel and great vision. I'm sorry to see Gable hurt...if that is what happened.

Give me a break you fucking babies. We won. That's better than the other half of the top 10 today.

Florida beats LSU and USC/Cal game is #1 v #2.

Some of us saw the Washington game as the possible "sleeper" of the year, so any victory is appreciated. Certainly Trojans should be feeling better tonight than Sooners and Gators. If SC wins out the team will be in the championship game as either a No. 1 or No. 2.

And the schedule breaks well for our boys- Stanford and Arizona at home, and ND, will help fine-tune the offense for Oregon. Dixon is no great thrower for the Ducks and SC handled Cal's Jackson last year. That leaves UCLA, but we catch them at home, and if a shot at the championship is on the line, my money says SC prevails this year.

I guess it's the fair weather fans edition of the blog. They won. That works for me a lot better than the OU fan sitting next to me here... Let the pressure be on LSU for a few weeks while we go through the meat of our schedule.

OK OK :o)

yeah the defense was pretty awesome..that Locker is a good runner and passer and he only got minimal yards....and Stafon is just awesome how is he not getting like 30 carries a game??

I just watched florida go down hahahah

so much for les miles, his SEC and his big mouth

I'm going to start a charity drive to get Musberger some better ties. Another horrible choice tonight.

By the way, who else caught Herbstreit saying he'd pick LSU over USC based on their performances this weekend. LSU played just as sloppy as we did in a much more favorable environment against a much less talented football team. Did anyone else watch that game? A 5'9'' quarterback was moving the chains against them.

I have to agree with Matthew.

I consider this game a fortunate lesson. A close ugly win will allow the Trojans to tighten up their game and fix those mental mistakes. Also a road experience like Washington (and Nebraska) will prepare the Trojans for their upcoming road games at Cal and Oregon.

seriously some of those runs were amazing...like that one Chauncey broke out of a tackle and came out of the pack for the first..and stafon broke that long run I have no idea how he got out of that pack

it's a relief to hear o'dowd and rachal just have sprains..any word on S. Wright?

Fred Davis looked sweet again too

I'm glad there is another guy that agrees with me. Can I help with the cause too?

Radio reports that O'Dowd has a dislocated kneecap. Haven't heard about Rachal.

If I have to hear Brent "Old Ass" Musberger butcher our player's names for another game, I will rip my ears out. He call CW Chance-E like 10 times. He can't prounca Rachals's first name no matter what he does. I would rather have a 95 year old Keith Jackson or Larry King for that matter calling our games. The play by play guys on the VS network are better than this guy. He and Dan Fouts need to stick to calling imaginary games in Adam Sandler movies.

P.S. If we play like this again, we will be lucky to finsih third int he PAC-10. Lucky for us, the way the rest of the teams in the top 10 looked this weekend, third in the Pac-10 may also equal 3rd in the BCS standings.

I look at it this way:

USC had 3 turnovers (basically handing UW 21 points), a blocked punt, 16 penalties for 150 yards and lost two starters on the offensive line.
And they still won against a tough opponent on the road in bad weather.
I can't imagine USC playing this sloppy again this year.
They will be 7-0 against Oregon, and with the defense playing like they are...they will be tough to beat.
But Sta

Alright...the Musberger tie drive is on! I'll put what kind of tie we should get him to a vote though. Classy so he looks decent or even more ridiculous than the crap he's been wearing so we'll actually see him wear it.

Post some ideas.

And another ABC coverage complaint: Why do they constantly save their side conversations and stat run throughs for third downs? It totally disrupts the energy of the game.

yeah I guess like they say the good teams find a way to win

Musberger said CJ had a "small groin problem"

Anyone know anything about that?

Locker was 13 of 29 for 89 yards..haha...that's awesome that will help our D stats..

Looks like the announced defense strategy to get Locker to throw actually worked. Slow start on in though. However, looks like the noise and other disctractions, plus not enough practice, affected Booty, the receivers and the O-line, particularly at center. Come on guys, lets get the timing together already. Seems like the receivers are not focusing on the ball (Turner, Havili in particular). Practice, practice. But: Don't forget that we are being decimated by injuries. Kudos to the replacements for stepping up, just need a little more practice.

Never in doubt! ;-)

A win is a win is a win....I'll take it. Sometimes, a team needs to win ugly. To grind out a win on the road is a learning experience.
With all these top teams losing, it gives USC a little margin of error when it comes to winning a close game (i.e., while LSU could jump us, Okl, Fla, W.Va. now can't).

The fans whining about losing multiple games this year can get off the bandwagon now, please.

Gee, two teams from the Pac-10 in the top three. Take that Les Miles, you moron.

Fight On!

matthew:
(1)The eghing word for "babies" is NOT needed. Make a point without that filthy language.
(2)JDB's performance gave DSJ the Heisman. The possible Chance he has is to the light the word on fire and NO more INT's.
(3)The hopeful optimistic side is that the key players injured could be ready to face the tough teams like Cal, AZ ST and OR. I would bet that even if Cushing is ready for the ND game he won't play to make sure he's healthy. PC won't make that mistake twice.
(4) I wonder if JDB will be on a short leash after his worst performance as a Trojan. He looked rattled, uncomfortable and NOT confident at ALL.
(5)This coming week practices I predict will be very serious business like marching at Paris Island parade deck: snap, stay in sync, execute with a precise rhythm strictly in that order.
Thanks
Thanks

I just woke up, read all the posts, and cannot believe more Trojans are not happier (except the loser betters). We won. We won. It was exciting. It was nervous-time. It was entertaining. Isn't that what we want in life?

JDB's play basically remains the same since garbage time behind ML. The play calling by Sark is not helping JDB, and has not improved substantially from that of the "Kiffer". ML had the ability to change plays at the line. Remember quote from PC "JDB runs the plays we call". So maybe that is why JDB locks on to Receivers. PC is trying to get all of these talent players playing time and win the game. So basically the game looks and feels as if it is practice / scrimage, where there is a lack of set up plays. Since they are just calling plays, why don't they design some plays to put a multiple homerun threats on the field. i.e a short passing plays with Havilli, CJ, Rojo, and McKnight on the field at the same time. And, And, And, train JDB NOT TO LOCK ON TO THE RECEIVERS. There were many wasted downs, especially in the RED ZONE. (After CW's long run why don't they bring in the "Prince", if doesn't get it, now bring CW back after he has had a blow and run him twice. Will anyone be willing to bet tha CW can't get four yards on two (2) consecutive carries. I guess PC and Sark are not going to call the "A" game until they really need it. Just let talent out trump the other team's talent.

FIGHT ON!!!

We never had any swagger in the game, either Bumbling Brent or Herbie th waffler commented on the poise from Ty Willingham and the look of chaos on our sidelines.

So glad we survived, this could have been a game we lost, but fortunately there are no pictures in the W column, and lets all be grateful that we won. I know there will be a lot of public criticism of JDB and Sark. Personally, I think Sark is great, but in this game, on the road, and the rain, Stafon needed 20 - 25 carries in this game, lets not belittle John David - he was just a little off with his timing. Stafon has been so solid, making 10 yards out of nothing on a severaloccasions.

I look at it this way, SC outgained UW by 270 yards and won by 3 - turnovers, penalties, and injuries just destroyed us, so I guess I really cant complain about anything other than the mistakes that these kids know they cannot make (although the PI calls were GARBAGE!). Lets go back home and open up a can of whoopass before Oregon and Cal - and lets all hope we dust off the cobwebs before ND, I would hate to see a mistake riddled performance like this in South Bend. Be happy Trojan fans, a W is a W!

JDB besides locking on to receivers got TWO passes batted down and that concerns me. That is WHY on another post someone sarcastically referred to JDB as a midget, go figure...
Stay tuned
