We apologize for the delay but we've been locked in discussions with Peter Caesar Carroll regarding the future of Roman Meal bread. The masses deserve bread and lackluster football!
Now on to the answers!
Two thoughts on Penn State's Fight On posters. I never saw Joe Paterno look more lively. And why didn't USC ever produce one that cool?
Every school stays in similar-style hotels and eat meals provided by the hotels. After the Wednesday night scrimmage, USC did offer the players steak and lobster (along with hot dogs). Paul Hackett used to serve salmon on road trips. If you read about it, chances are USC wants it out there for recruiting purposes.
There's nothing really special about Pete Carroll's approach to eating or hotels.
Mitch Mustain has demonstrated patience repeatedly in practices and scrimmages. He's been good in the pocket and also been able to roll out and pass. And I consider him to be mechanically sound.
USC does not believe Florida tampered with Emmanuel Moody, otherwise it would not release him. Jamere Holland is a different story. However, the fact is Holland wants to stay close to home and go to Oregon. USC's considered the possibilities and Holland's transfer hearing is at the end of this month.
Dwayne Polee Sr.'s hiring is not surprising. It frees up a valuable scholarship, but what people fail to realize is that Polee Jr. will still be responsible for room and board. These days, coaches are getting more and more creative with scholarships and USC's definitely aggressive in this dept. Obviously, these hires are controversial from a national standpoint. And many of the people I hear looking past it would cry murder if UCLA did it. But that's the hypocrisy of college sports fans.
Todd McNair will not be let go by the university unless he is implicated in the Reggie Bush scandal. He spoke to the NCAA last year and claimed no wrongdoing.
The income taxes on a game-touched Mustain ball cannot be calculated under normal rules. But I'm guessing it would generate more takers than for TrojanTV.
Transfer drama will not hurt USC recruiting because high school players don't think they will transfer when they commit. Many are foolish like Emmanuel Moody and believe they will be the featured back with no consideration of the roster. It only hurts if that recruit has a little brother.
The Daily Trojan and Daily Bruin used to do parodies of each other the week of the game. I was part of several of those issues. It was discontinued when the schools decided there was too much profanity. Generally, the adminstrations try to suck the life blood from student papers that have any fun.
John David Booty is 6-1 1/2
Lane Kiffin would return as assistant head coach after he gets fired and if he cannot get an NFL job as a coordinator.
I get tired of people asking me to be honest when answering questions. Would you rather troll over to a fan board and ask?
Mark Sanchez's progress has been up-and-down at USC. If fans term it as a disappointment, it's because he came to USC with so much advance hype after playing at high profile Mission Viejo. The truth is, until he plays in games, there's no saying how he will do. Matt Leinart was awful the year he redshirted. John David Booty did not exactly flourish either as a reserve. Have been disappointed watching Sanchez? Yes.
But I usually feel unimpressed by the reserves. Don't forget the starting defense stopped counting interceptions by Aaron Corp in training camp because they said it was too easy.
Sanchez will get his chance this spring. If he doesn't cut it, Mitch Mustain takes over.
If USC could prove tampering by Urban Meyer, it would report him.
Mike McDonald is on scholarship.
I have not gone back and watched footage of Mitch Mustain at Arkansas. I've only watched him in training camp.
I will consider offering pete carroll answers for a week. Here's a preview: ``We're fired up. Everything's on track. We're jacked up'' and ``I don't know'' when asked who will start.
Fans are standing more now, trying to pretend they are dedicated. Maybe all fans who want to stand should be sent to Trojan Nation.
USC does suffer more injuries than other schools. Why? Because Pete Carroll practices at a harder, more physical style than other coaches. He accepts injuries as the cost for always going at a hard tempo. Practice tempo will slow down when Carroll retires.
Mitch Mustain is receiving double-bodyguard protection until Pedalgate is solved. And we hope to fingerprint Mark Sanchez's thumb this week.
The only kickers on scholarship are David Buehler and Greg Woidneck.
We considered installing a minimum IQ requirement but then we wondered how administrators would follow the blog.
There's no difference in who's calling the plays. It's been equally disgraceful no matter who's in charge. I've said before I doubt USC will go undefeated in the post-Chow era.
Michael Jackson go back on his word? I'm shocked, shocked, by that statement.
Schools will use Eric Scott's problems against him in recruiting and Todd McNair's problem's against him. It's what happens in recruiting.
Pete Carroll is an OK coach, when he isn't bodysurfing or promoting his website.
Carroll's philosophy with lineman is he identifies who he likes and goes after them. He doesn't usually lower his standards too often, which is why some years USC does not take enough linemen.
The king of competition got embarassed with a lackluster performance in the season opener.
Relations are not great between USC and UCLA right now, so jersey talk is on hold.
Any one who played against Idaho cannot redshirt unless they suffer a season ending injury in the first four games.
Well, that's all, unless you're still sore over that opener. Aren't you glad the season started?

Great work, as always, Scott.

How Do You Do????
Hey Wolfie, I know you are not responsible for this, BUT how can YOU miss it and can't YOU do something about this?
The caption below has been running the past few days after USC's Saturday night football game with Idaho. The picture correctly shows USC's #23 getting away from Idaho's #10, Shilo Keo---EXCEPT, #23 for USC is NOT Chauncey Washington but #23 USC cornerback and kick-off return guy, Vincent Joseph. DUH!!
Of course Keo can't catch Chauncey--he's not even in the game!!
Fight On!

"Let them eat cake," said Marie. Perhaps you, Pete, and myself can purchase the rights to Roman Meal Bread and keep it going, altho I have only $25.00 in capital to invest. Now, if you are talking about Wonder Bread, I could invest $50.00 as it is my favorite-and it builds strong bones and teeth eight ways-or something like that---but it's the intangibles that I could bring to the table that would be most valuable.
Seriously, another outstanding job, power-packed with inside info, humor, and putting rude readers in their place. Anyone who questions your honesty deserves to be put in their place.
My only worry is, what will happen to you when you go shopping and can't find any more Roman Meal? You could stock up on it--lifetime supply--and put it in your freezer, but I'm not sure how long it would be edible--so I think the only solution is for all of us to purchase the rights from Interstate Bakeries, and continue production. United, we stand--divided, we fall, a la Lloyd Carr!
Sincere thanx again, Scott, greatly appreciated!

Scott,
I think you need to retract your statement that people that stand during games at the Coliseum are only people trying to look dedicated, or at least reconsider it. People have passion for the team they follow, as you see every day by looking at all the hits your blog is getting. There is a reason why the Trojans are so good at home, they feel like they have the support of a full stadium and can depend on raucous vocal support when needed, i.e.: any 3rd down on defense, when the opposing quarterback is trying to audible, kickoffs, just to name a few. I personally would think more people would stand up more and cheer their team on than just sitting in their chairs talking about how they got killed in the stock market last month. I say prepare to be loud and help to sustain the dominance.
Trust me, that crowd in Lincoln in two weeks will be ravenous and so loud Booty's ears might bleed.

Keith15, but this isn't the Big 12 (much less the SEC). Fans in L.A. are notoriously fickle, not just USC fans. We're spoiled with all the options available here, so I think that's what Scott was poking fun at. Yes, the crowd will prolly be standing a lot in Lincoln, but you try standing anywhere other than the student section (ok, or the Thundering Herd area) at a USC game and see how fast the 70something 4th generation Trojan behind you starts complaining.

Keith, don't forget that Scott Wolf is notorious for his bitterness, self-righteousness and overall negativity. He's able to make the most beautiful things in the world seem dull and depressing. He take joy out of life and especially take the fun out of being a Trojan.
While he occasionally is able to just report straight facts (questionable at times) his overall outlook on life is grim.
It's a chore to wade through the Leinart bashing, the sarcasm and the pomposity to get to the real meat of the story. I guess that's the best you can get when the reporter shows up five minutes before practice ends and just eaves drops on others to get his scoop.

Working together, we can solve Pedalgate and make sure nothing happens to our hero Mitch Mustain! Now that school has started again, I am keeping my eye on Sanchez...
