Poll Season
This week's talking point in Louisiana is clear as we already did two interviews regarding our top 25 ballot and why we did not leapfrog LSU to No. 1.
LSU gained ground on USC after an impressive victory over Virginia Tech and in a singleminded state, this will be a sore spot all week.

VT is the story of 07 due to the tragedy. But they are/were overrated...

VT's Quarterbacking is not champioship caliber. That
backup shows promise in '08.
You can't win BCS games with strong special teams and defense alone anymore.
The USC vs. LSU sounds great on paper with Booty coming home and playing against his Evangel Christian buddy Hester in the Superdome. Probably won't happen though...

I agree I think VT is overrated. I believe they dropped to 16th this week. However I think that is still too high for them. Not to take anything from LSU. They are a good team.

Did you see that if there were a BCS rating today that SC would be behind LSU. Why sweat it? As long as a team is No. 2 at the end of the regular season it will get a chance to prove it is No. 1. No. 3 is where you sweat it.

Did you see that SC has only played one game? And really only one half of that game?
We'll see what happens next week...or better yet, let's wait until november to figure out the BCS rankings...

The question now is whether VT is for real and a validation of LSU. Last year Ohio State beat a poor #2 Texas team and so was a solid #1 all year. It even caused people to think after the OSU-UM game to think they were #1 & #2 respectively. The reality is that Florida, LSU and USC were all better than both teams.
As of right now the polls are overreacting to a win over an average VT team, that is somehow rated #9. LSU will play some quality teams and then we will have a better idea how good they are.
The SEC is down to 2 good teams after this past weekend.

The BCS politicking has already begun. Bob Stoops So Low is whining about Reggie Bush and getting the Boomer Losers to complain about unfair treatment. But if there was credible evidence of any SC wrongdoing in the Bush affair, the legions of programs suffering from chronic SC envy would have produced it. Stoops should be carful what he wishes for. The two teams ahead of him in the polls are SC and LSU. Who were the teams he faced in BCS national championship games?

After Saturday, LSU will be ranked #1 and the overrated Trojans will be ranked below Washington!
Choke on!

Bill, go back to playing your banjo barefoot, please. Since Washington isn't even ranked, it would be hard for USC to be ranked below them.
Teams shouldn't be ranked at all until 4 weeks into the season. Yes, LSU gave VaTech a smackdown, but I don't think VaTech was even a Top 10 team after that home opener against East Carolina.
