Shotgun Wedding
John David Booty and Kris O'Dowd spent this week and next working on the shotgun for the first time.
But don't expect a big influx of shotgun plays. It remains a specific-purpose feature and is not something the coaches seem to like on a frequent basis. If USC starts using, it probably means the offense is struggling.

Glad they are practicing it...I wish they would use it more...at the very least in two minute drills.
If Booty has one more batted down pass...I will throw up in my mouth.
Scott -
They already spent next week working on the shotgun, huh? Do you have a time machine that you're hiding from us?
If so, can you find out Saturday's Powerball numbers for me?
Thanks!
Oh yeah - love the blog!!
Is it just me, but when I hear "shotgun" it maks me think back when I was running my 2-minute offense, and I instructed my best friend to "Go long, and at the trash can cut right and I will hit you."
I know, I know, perhaps it has its place, but the shotgun still smacks of street pickup football.
I don't think it's a big deal I was watching a game on Fox college sports pacific last week from 2002 and Carson Palmer was in the shotgun alot..It just doesn't sound like it is working.
I am sure our offense will struggle vs. Nebraska but maybe they should try something else.
***Visions of an O'Dowd snap going 5 ft over Booty's head for a Nebraska TD***
...only when struggling. Then hopefully we'll never see it.
Patty O, you had better keep a large bucket next to you during the game!
Blocked Pass On!
Practice? That's an interesting concept. someone should suggest that to Michigan's special teams.
I nominate USC1966 for the most negative, depressing person in the Trojan family. You sure you don't have a daughter named "Debbie Downer"?
Hey, I think I dated Debbie Downer when I was an SC.
Palmer in the shotgun under Norm Chow?? I never thought Chow ran the shotgun. You sure this isn't the scotch talking.
Bill,
It could be worse. I could be a bruin fan...then I'd need to wear the vomit bucket year round.
Anyone intimately familiar with the standard center/QB exchange would think the shotgun wedding between center and QB should happen before the first official practice.
